You have probably heard of Polygon(Matic). It's a layer2 scaling solution built on top of Ethereum.
Currently fees cost around 0.0005$ per transaction and Matic is capable of processing up to 7000 transactions per second.
It's interoperable and you can natively bridge tokens from Ethereum, as well as interact with other networks such as Binance Smart Chain and Dai through external bridges.
Polygon layer2 is the scalable application layer meant for real-world applications.
Just like any other network, in order for the transaction to be processed, a fee has to be paid. The fees are near-0, but they still have to be paid in MATIC token.
