According to the statistics of professional organizations, the total number of bitcoins in bitcoin wallets that have been inactive for more than 5 years is about 4 million-it is not certain that these wallet keys are lost, but it is reasonable to guess that most of the keys are lost Up!

Between these are mine as well and I can tell you they are not lost. They are just inactive for many years, 7 or 8. A lot are like these. One day these addresses will be used. I'd say at least half of those keys are still valid.

I believe the same.I know a couple of persons who are Hodling from a long time now.I tried to emulate that since 2015 and I couldn't because I always withdraw or invest in other sites and usually withdraw some amount of coins every month, including a small amount of Bitcoin. There is a possibility too that some of those keys maybe lost but I think this is rather a small number than a big number,so overall a lot less Bitcoin I think is burned compared to the actual approximate number presented here.

Asked countless times already and there is no true way to know except those coins regularly sent to burn address. Those that are physically lost you can always predict someone finds it again one day like that guy digging the trash for his old hard drive:) I think it does not really impact us overall.
^ Because the fact is that there is no tool that can be used to measure those BTC wallet addresses that are inactive. It could most of them are lost of holding in exchange, big companies and other big and small individual investors who held their BTC for a longer time. We don't really know or determine if we based on the activity of the wallet. So we are here to have a prediction on how many BTC has been locked on the wallet but the fact, there is no accurate answer for that. Nevertheless, there could be instances that one day, a long-time lost private will be found and that amount will belong to the BTC circulation supply.

1.85 M coin have not moved since Jan 2011.

https://bitinfocharts.com/top-100-dormant_9y-bitcoin-addresses.html

Satoshi, or whoever used the 'Patoshi' pattern, had about 1M coin.

https://coincodex.com/article/8329/what-is-the-patoshi-pattern-and-what-does-it-have-to-do-with-bitcoin-inventor-satoshi-nakamoto/

So that leaves about 0.85 M of other coin. This could easily have been gained and lost between a few people who have passed on, like Hal Finney. Whether the coin by Hal, David, others, or Satoshi are lost depends largely on whether they left a way for others to recover them. After that, you'd have people who lost them in much smaller amounts, which could sum up to a lot, but is much harder to do.

I personally think that there are riddles in early bitcoin, with jokes and philosophy intermingled in it. One day, someone might figure these out and recover parts of Satoshi's fortune. There are also tests, like this: https://bitinfocharts.com/bitcoin/address/1FvUkW8thcqG6HP7gAvAjcR52fR7CYodBx Which has patterns in its transactions, probably to see whether the cryptography can be broken with such patterns.

The path of 4bitcoin may one day reveal its mysteries..

Just like gold can be lost on the seabed or a $100 bill can easily be burned. Bitcoin could also disappear from the Internet forever. When all 21 million BTC are mined, the actual amount available for trading or spending will be significantly lower. About 4 million bitcoins have disappeared in my opinion. This amount corresponds to 23% of the bitcoin supply.

Hello Smiley
The current number of bitcoins generated today is about 18730000 .  I wonder how much of it has been completely lost,
I mean mostly bitcoin which were not transferred for example 10 or 8 may be 6 years.
I am also sure that many people have lost their private keys to their wallets and also do not have access to them.
Can you please suggest or refer me to some site what percentage value we can assume how much of the 18M is currently in circulation Huh

I once read a site that stated, "Nearly 4 Million Bitcoins Have Been Lost Forever, According to New Research." According to fresh analysis from Chainalysis, a digital forensics business that investigates the bitcoin blockchain, 3.79 million bitcoins have already vanished—and 2.78 million according to a conservative estimate. Those figures imply that between 17 and 23 percent of existing bitcoins, which are currently valued at roughly $8,500 each, will be lost.
