I've noticed the same thing when sites sell a corny looking product, but don't have a comment section. However, some of the good scam artists have a comment section where you can find loads of approvals with few disagreements, but you can't ever get hold of any of the commenters... even on the site.

Seems that sometimes you can actually find what franky1 says in the textbooks. The other side of that is, often the textbooks say right inside themselves (often indirectly), that their own work is flawed one way or another. Yet doctors are taught that it is truth, and apply it as though it were, even though it is only anecdotal.

I'd be willing to bet that doctors with a private practice use way more anectotal medicine that scientifically proven medicine. Probably the pilots died anecdotally.
