Hi All -

Can Electrum 4.1.4 be used to redeem Casascius tokens? If someone has done this, please tell me how? I want to redeem and transfer the BTC to my Coinbase account.

I am using macOS Big Sur, if anyone knows other methods I can use, please advise.

Thanks.

Yes. Casascius coins uses mini private key as their format which is supported by Electrum. Download electrum from electrum.org, verify the authenticity and open it. Create a new wallet > Import Private Keys or Bitcoin addresses.

Put it in this format: p2pkh:PRIVATE KEY.

Using the Electrum version 4.1.4 wallet? I have seen examples using prior editions of the Electrum wallet, I want to make sure they can be redeemed using version 4.1.4. I have only used bitcoin on one occasion in 2013 and now these tokens are worth a lot of money. If possible could you break it down for me a bit....I open the Electrum wallet--> send tab -->enter my coinbase bitcoin address in the "pay to" section, then enter  p2pkh:PRIVET KEY UNDER THE STICKER in the "description" section, type in 1,000 mBTC  (because 1000mBTC = 1 BTC) and click pay. And doing this will transfer the 1 BTC off of the Casascius token and into my Coinbase account?

I can do everything, In the send tab of the Electrum wallet....transfer the 1 etc value off the token and into my coinbase account?

I am not an expert and want to make sure I am doing this right the first time.

Just did a test transfer of .0001 btc from coinbase to the Electrum 4.1.4 wallet and it went through.

Please advise if I am correct in my logic for how to redeem Casascius tokens. Please advise and please correct anything I might be missing. This is a lot of money. I appreciate people sharing who have the knowledge / experience using Electrum 4.1.4.

p2pkh:PRIVET KEY UNDER THE STICKER in the "description" section
You don't need to enter the private key when sending the fund to coinbase. The private key must be entered when you create the wallet.

Create a new wallet.
Select "Import bitcoin addresses or private keys" and click on "Next". Enter your private key and click on "Next". After that, you should see your balance.

Go "Send" tab. Enter your coinbase address in "Pay to" field and the amount of bitcoin you want to send in "Amount" field.
You can click on "Max" button if you want to send the entire balance.
Leave "Description" field empty.

A new window where you should select the fee will pop-up.
Select the fee and click on "Next".

The higher fee you pay, the sooner your transaction will be confirmed.
If you don't have much information about transaction fee, I recommend you to select "ETA" as estimation method and move the slider to set a target.
Note that blocks are mined at the rate of 1 per 10 minutes on average and that's just an estimation.
For example, if you set the target to "within 5 blocks", your transaction is estimated to be confirmed in 50 minutes.

Thank you. My anxiety is getting better Smiley If I try this process using a private key of a Casascius token that has already been redeemed / spent, I should see the transaction attempt to occur in the wallet but not get confirmed (obviously because its already been redeemed). I think that will be my final "test" before going at redeeming my tokens.

This is a learning experience for me. Please chime in, any guidance from people who know more about this than I do is welcome! Thank you everyone for the help!

I think you should be able to tell it from the balances though, no need to create a test transaction to see whether your coins are still there or not (unless I misunderstood you). Just like how you can see the balances from a wallet you imported with a private key/seed phrase.

If you enter a private key associated with a casascius coin that has already been redeemed, the balance of the wallet should be zero. You should also see an outgoing transaction (a transaction with negative amount) spending the fund in "History" tab.
The outgoing transaction has definitely been confirmed.

My primary objective is transferring the BTC value to my coinbase so I can redeem for USD. After I do that....what is the process for obtaining all the BTC forks. I am exploring this right now with the help of guidance on this chat......Ok so I redeem a cass coin and I got that BTC in my coinbase......how can I get access to the BTC forks.....

This is a side discussion. I might ask more questions regarding redeeming the BTC.

By importing the private key into the fork wallets. You should always transfer the Bitcoins out before attempting to recover any forkcoins.

On a side note, are you sure you want to redeem your Casascius coins? Depending on the condition, the actual unredeemed coin can fetch up to a couple grand more than it's loaded value. Check the collectibles section to see if anyone is interested.

what can I do to obtain the forked coins?
For claiming each of fork coins, you need to import your private key into a wallet supporting that fork coin.
The most popular fork coin is bitcoin cash.  The best wallet for accessing your bitcoin cash is electroncash. Download electroncash only from its official website.
Electroncash works same as electrum. You should create a new wallet, select  "Import bitcoin addresses or private keys" and enter your private key(s).

For more information on how to claim bitcoin cash and other fork coins, you can read the guide provided by LoyceV. (Visit the link below.)

Coinomi doesn't supports all of the Forks (that are worth it). But there's another thing to do after moving your Bitcoin and before moving your Forks: ensure replay protection! Without it, you may unintentially move (and lose) some of your Forkcoins while transfering another Forkcoin.

#learning by doing trying not to F* up
Pro tip: learn before doing Wink

My advice for Forkcoins: redeem/sell BCH/BSV/BCH-A/BCD/BTG. Forget about the rest (but keep the private key, just in case any of them ever gets hyped and pumped).

BCH/BSV/BCH-A/
Be particularly careful about these 3 shitcoins, they don't have replay protection at least I know BSV (bitcoin scam version owned by Craig Scammer Wright) doesn't but not sure if the other bcash copy added replay protection or not, last time I checked it didn't have it. When you are claiming coins that existed from before 2017 that means your coins can be spent on all chains without replay protection at the same time with the same tx.

In my case when I transfer my BCH. It automatically split when I send it directly on exchange(Kucoin) and never encounter any issue. So far, I only claim BCH(both split coin), Bitcoin Gold and Clam. Besides that, Most of the shitty fork coins is still intact on all of my redeemed cas coins. Do you have list of website or wallet that can give the list of possible shitcoins that can be redeem(with value)?  Thank you in advance. Cheesy

Be particularly careful about these 3 shitcoins, they don't have replay protection at least I know BSV (bitcoin scam version owned by Craig Scammer Wright) doesn't but not sure if the other bcash copy added replay protection or not, last time I checked it didn't have it.
As far as I know all 3 of them don't have replay protection, but last time I tried to replay a transaction, it wasn't valid on all chains (just 2 out of 3). I was hoping to create many small funds on all 3 chains for further testing. I wouldn't count on it though, so take precautions in the forum of some split Forkdust before moving Forkcoins.

In my case when I transfer my BCH. It automatically split when I send it directly on exchange(Kucoin) and never encounter any issue.
It's not possible to "automatically split" on the blockchain. It could be Kucoin accepts both Forks on the same address and shows them separately in your account (after which Kucoin splits them on-chain). But most exchanges don't offer that.

So far, I only claim BCH(both split coin), Bitcoin Gold and Clam.
So you've moved your BCH-A to Kucoin too, or did it not exist yet back then?
Isn't CLAM dead by now? It has zero trading volume.

Besides that, Most of the shitty fork coins is still intact on all of my redeemed cas coins. Do you have list of website or wallet that can give the list of possible shitcoins that can be redeem(with value)?  Thank you in advance. Cheesy
There's Find my Coins, but although it usually works fine, I've seen it produce incorrect data in some cases. The only one worth it that's left for you is BCD (around $20 per Bitcoin at Forktime).

If you happen to have a Ballet wallet it does a great job of grabbing most forks. It's what I used and it even exchanged most of the forks into BTC for me at a very competitive rate. Highly recommend it for the forks. Coinomi is nearly just as good but it didn't have as seamless of a process for BCH and BSV forks so I just used Ballet. But both are great for all the relevant forks.

As for the sweeping the Cas itself part here's a guide I followed that's a bit more complex(for myself anyway) but if provided a great learning experience and assured me of a much higher level of security for sweeping those coins. The OP of this thread is a absolute gentleman and puts it all together nice and neatly. Here's that thread and the specific post I used if it's of help at all...

Hi All -

Can Electrum 4.1.4 be used to redeem Casascius tokens? If someone has done this, please tell me how? I want to redeem and transfer the BTC to my Coinbase account.

I am using macOS Big Sur, if anyone knows other methods I can use, please advise.

Thanks.

Rapids4me, how did this all work out for you? I too need to redeem Casascius version1 bitcoin that I've had for a long time. Any additional insight to steps taken, sweeping and cashing in for USD?
thanks
