do you feel that someone should be arrested and then deported over an unpaid bill?
i might understand it if he was already found guilty of not paying taxes. and then refused to pay the court fines.and then left the country
but before even being found guilty of an unpaid bill. when its still just suspected. seems harsh to go to the extremes, right?.. especially when so many others do the same and get away with it.

Tax evasion is a serious offence, but should you really take your own life over it? I don't think so, no one got hurt. Can't you just make a deal, repay your taxes and go a few years in prison? There are probably more things happening behind the curtain. As usual we will never know about it. I really liked the meme that shows the Clinton and say that John got Eppsteined. Also John McAfee kept tweeting before going to prison that if people say that he committed suicide  then something will be wrong. I am not believing that he really committed suicide.

Watch the video. If McAfee is dead, watch for the stuff coming out in the media. If it doesn't show up anywhere, maybe he isn't dead.

From the legal perspective only, and avoiding speculations:

I don't know how it works in the US but in Spain, and I think it is usual in common-law, tax evasion is not a crime unless it is a really big amount of money, and it usually gets fixed up without charges if the criminal is open to negotiation and eventually pays.

If it really doesn't work for many billionaires out there (I don't know any so I have to trust vox populi) it is not because the laws are flawed, but because some humans are.

When someone so rich commits tax fraud, to me it is a punishable behaviour because, while in the USA a ridiculously big part of the budget goes to war, in other countries we have high quality public healthcare and education for everybody instead; and this damage to the common good must be compensated.

Anyway, like with Capone, mentioned above, I don't think taxes where the main reason/concern to chase him, so extracting general rules on how tax laws should work based on this particular case doesn't make much sense.

so his kid wrote a tweet about happy fathers day and saying how he was in prison that day..
but mcafee dun goofed he retweeted the kids message afterwards.
(not possible to do stuff while in jail)

so he must have got out of jail.. after the 20th
Fact that he retweeted something doesn't means anything. It's not an issue at all to have phone in prison. At least in my country probably almost every prisoner have phone and you don't have to be John McAfee to keep phone.

I think that he was either murdered and whole case was set as a suicide, or due to drugs he had lost his mind and went to far with strangling himself (I've read that addicted to that to feel more buzz). Or, he was 76 already, people die in this age. Spanish prison stuff messed with monitoring his health and turn everything into suicide.
It doesn't looks that he was kiiled or died because of age. He was found hanging. Offcourse, we can start conspiracy theories, but do we really need it? Because all these drugs he probably lost his mind and didn't wanted to be sent to US at an cost.

McAfee was a conspiracy theorist and likely involved with many other very bad things. He was also 75 years old. Even a few years in prison would have seemed like an eternity to him, and could have led to his early death.

Probably because court in Spain recently had approved his extradition to USA. And it's obvious that he didn't wanted to go there.

But he would have been put not in a regular jail. He would serve his sentence in a jail for "white collars". He wont be put in a jail full with rapist, murders, drug sellers.
I've read that he would have spend his next 30 years in jail for his crimes. With his money, connections and reputation I think he would feel rather comfortable in jail.
Of course he will be forced to work with feds to reveal other scammer, but I dont see nothing scary to return to the US.
Read more about how he lived and you'll understand why he did that. He was the "my way" kind of guy, he lived the life to the full, his life was luxurious in every sense of the word. Not only he could afford anything materialistic, but he also acted against the law (many stories of that) and did what he wanted.
Now imagine that kind of person being in jail - the opposite of the life he was used to, no freedom in anything. He just couldn't bare the thought of that and I think that's understandable.
Also, it's possible that he could've had mental health problems, and the suicide was a very rush and emotion-driven decision in which the background disorder could've played a role.

mcafee and epstein are on two different levels of criminality.
hense me loosely saying tax was civil.. where as kiddy fiddling is definitely criminal

epstein suicided himself because he screwed kids.. then kids screwed him in court and he knew his life was screwed so only option was to screw his bedsheets around his neck

mcafee however has some mental issues. and probably depression. in reality its more likely he knew he would suicide himself once his reputation is tarnished and he cant be public 'free' guy anymore.
so preparing for his death he wanted to to appear like his paranoia and narcissism was real by saying 'if im dead someone done it'

you see it many times with manic depressives. they want to suicide themselves. but they do it in ways that doesnt make it look like it was their choice (suicide by cop)

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

He was convicted of tax evasion but it is unknown whether he committed suicide because mcafee was found dead in a prison outside barcelona. He was very old he was found dead in his prison cell just hours after a spanish national court approved his extradition to the united states on multiple tax fraud charges he was convicted of a tax related criminal offense where he was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He was also charged with fraud and money laundering for using social media to promote cryptocurrencies.

Staying out of debate over whether Mcafee committed suicide or if he's dead---I'm already over the collective schadenfrede on this one.

+ the smartass in me thinks "if you have any amount of intelligence AND money why the hell wouldn't you choose a country without extradition when you know that your government will go after you (yes Al Capone ;-)).

Should anyone be arrested in another country and extradited to face criminal charges for taxes owed to a government? No
*though we can all foresee the potential effects of not enforcing "legal" tax payments

"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny"---Federalist papers? Not sure of the quote's origin but it resonates.

"People should not be afraid of their governments,  governments should be afraid of their people." Definitely V (for Vendetta)

I would not agree that he hang himself because he was afraid to get back to the US. That just dont make sense. Jails in the US for "white collars" are not that scare as regular jails. Compared to Russian jails, they are more like a vocation. You can go for a walk, read, visit gym, have TV and other benefits, just behind the bars, separated from other world.

I'm think more about drugs. His death reminds me the death of David Carradine. Carradine was also substance abuser. With money and connections like him, he managed to get drugs in jail and accidentally kill himself while trying to get more buzz.

so john mcafee committed suicide.. over taxes

He should have rescinded all his signatures off all the documents he ever signed with the IRS, and then sued the Commissioner of the IRS man to man/woman for a full refund of all moneys he ever paid in + interest.

when i read john mcafee's twitters i honestly thought: "he's having paranoia, it's not possible that the government would go so far as to hunt him down because of the tax", i only believed when i read about his arrest in spain and I remember that I thought he was going to get out of jail soon, but months went by and honestly I wasn't believing they were keeping the man in jail, they could have put him in house arrest, they could have made a deal with him so he'd be paying the tax, it was a big exaggeration what did they do to john mcafee

I don't believe this claim that he committed suicide, I personally believed that he was assassinated by government agents
