Risk of Axie Infinity NFT Game?

Recently, Axie Infinity Game, it's like Pokemon game, and it is NFT with collectible pets that are starting to make noise here in our country, the Philippines. A lot of players can earn around $20-$25 per day just playing this NFT game earning another altcoin called SLP every time you played and you can sell it to the market, but it's not free to play since you need to buy or breed (with cost off course) these pets to use for playing.

My question now is, what can be the risk or downside of playing this? Since playing here is just like also investing money since you can't play without some in-game items to be used to play and earn.

I have lots of friends who already earned more than $10k USD just by breeding those axies, and are still in the process of earning more as their breeding operations expand. Personally, the risk that I'm seeing from this game is if the servers of the game suddenly stopped working, causing a downtrend on the price of SLP leading to crashes and losses on the players' side. Aside from that, I can't see how it would be risky, given that the players themselves are the ones creating and breeding the axies to sell to other players, so the economy revolves around P2P trading with little to almost no profit going towards the side of the developers.

The risk is the decision of the devs, the rules that they've set. If there's any big change that won't be in the favor of the players, for sure the demand for the Axies will drop down overnight. But if they can maintain the current state of its ecosystem and economy, for sure that the growth is going to be continuous and they only have to maintain the server to cover as many players as they can. It's the only concern that we need to think about, the servers and the current bug issues that have been found. They don't have to be too strict with their players because it's the one that's attracting more players, investors, breeders, and watchers to get in.

The risk is maybe you're too late to the train and the people who have established a group that grinds the SLP gonna just dump the market, I personally would prefer to find a new game
like VulcanVerse for example, they are new and have same potential as axie except they adds some innovation, also there are plenty of others game that are blockchain based released nowadays
with good reward as well.
Frankly in my opinion the business model of axie is that the market gonna be alive as long as there's a new member coming playing the game but take it with grain of salt about my opinion.

I believe a game has to be safe and beneficial to players and society to be considered good. Besides, players really need to deserve the rewards they earn, else it won't be sustainble  and  monetary value will crash long-term...Better to reward people for solving real problems that are safe and beneficial to them and society.

IMO the risk is the people itself. More and more people start playing, there's more supply than demand, and value drops.
Same happend with Alien Worlds. TLM was worth $1, now it's 90% down

               Not only in the philippines but all over the world. This is because of the fact that axie is somewhat connected to pokemon in a broader sense. And as we all know, pokemon was a huge hit in the 90s to the early 2000s and even after the hype has went down a bit, it resumed on the proceeding years in 2000s. With this, the pokemon fanatics where hooked. Now if you also count the crypto enthusiasts in this industry that have a good number of gamers as well, it isn't too hard to imagine how big it would be in a few years time. But yes, despite its reputation and the duration of its existence, there are still risks. Like software  problems, phishing, etc., etc. Despite this risks though, people are still willing to dive in since the rewards outweighs the risks greatly specially when you put a lot of time in reading and preparing not just for the game itself but for the problems or risks that are existing or may have the chance to exist. There really is nothing wrong with doing what you want as long as you know and are sure about what you are doing and responsible enough to take responsibility for any consequences that may occur because of your choices.

As of this moment, I don't see any big downside of the game because it looks like the game gained traction already and at the same time more and more players will try this game in the future. If there is:
1. Sudden price drop of SLP prices but there are lots of breeders in the game and they needed SLP as well as AXS in order to breed. The supply and demand of the token is still there. There are farmers who are selling their SLP's and there are breeders who are buying it.
2. This isn't a risk directly towards the game but the risk of getting scammed by buying axies or SLP or anything is there. Although there are ways in order not to get scammed, I always see people on Facebook sharing that they are scammed and take note this is daily. People being ignorant at its highest level :X.

Overall, I don't see any potential big risk with the game. I've been playing for a month only so if there is especially if its big share it with us .

Axie infinity can't run by itself without the Devs so that's where the major risks are, let's just keep hoping that the Devs will keep doing their bests in the future, I could say a server crash can crate some mess but it all depends on the Devs too.

interesting view, developers are indeed the single point of failure for the network
nevertheless, Axie has enough funding, they want to decentralize government (AXS tokens) and provide treasure governance to DAO, so there are all aspect to good development, IMO, it is not an advise, but who bought Axies last year, or in the beginning of this year, has a good plus at the moment, I have some Axies, but am not playing at the moment

So, it seems more of the reasons are about "developers of the game", "server things issue".

So my thoughts are;
First, if the issue is about the devs of the game, it seems most of the games right now are totally relying on developers, and additional is publishing their source code for open source could solve this solution?
The second thing is the server issue, I am playing axie infinity one of these days and I experience there are some times in a day that it's very lag and I am confident that it is because a lot of players are playing during that time, maybe their server is congested, but I believe this can be solved.

The risk of this game is when it servers are down, players will eventually not gonna play the game and when they cannot solve this issue in the future this game will not continue anymore, and besides this game will cost you money before you can earn it back. Just like investing first and after that you play to earn back the money you have spent and later gain some profits from trading the altcoins to exchanges.

The risks are the same than the risks you take by investing in any crypto currency: market volatility, hype, sudden decrease of demand for the game, what would lead to a crash in prices. Everyone must understand these risks when investing not only in Axies, but in any blockchain game. If the prices are skyrocketing it's because there are a lot of people demanding for it, but demand doesn't stay on top forever and once demand is over, players will see their in game daily income decreasing considerably. Thus it's necessary to calculate how much money you are going to invest, in how long you will recover it also considering SLP price might go down.

For some people it will worth anyway, because they enjoy playing the game, so it can take even several years to hit RoI that they won't bother. Or like others like to say: I would play the game even if I didn't earn anything from it.

They've improved the servers and the gaming experience although some lags are still being experienced but it wasn't the same as before. They've completely upgraded their servers to guarantee the gaming experience has been upgraded and the growing number of their userbase can easily be catered by the server itself.

Looking at the current situation where there are many third-party apps developments toward the game, I believe it sounds plausible if one day the whole game development could be developed by the community. It is indeed would solve the problem.

Noting if you take a look at Axie's roadmap they planned to make it as a decentralized organization. Nevertheless, the day is still long, so currently, it all depends on the core developments team.

When people loose interest on the game and also when there is too much SLP available in the market. The only reason why the profit on playing Axie is good for now is because there are many people buying SLP that boos the price up. But there is a point that SLP token will be over supply and the price will go down hard due to oversold. It will begin panic and loss of interest in the game.

This game is very dangerous especially if you are putting a lot of money to purchase high quality breed there. When ETH got dump again, I wonder if there will be many people buy and breeds again.

That's still a long way to go before the game will become finally decentralized and I hope that the developers of it are serious about doing that. They've taken already a huge profit from the game and it's all for the continuation of the game but since it's part of the whitepaper, they'll for sure make it happen to make the game decentralized by that year. But it's far to think of it currently and what they have to maintain is their ecosystem and those third party development that you've said maybe it's the ronin bridge made by the devs, they're earning from them and  I guess the time will come that it's going to be holders game rather than playing the game itself.

Yep, in my opinion, it is a critical time for them since Axie got a lot of traction. I agree they need to maintain the development progress, and somehow think to gather more userbase. A few years from now will decide does Axie could sustain over a long period of time. Not to mention they need to develop new innovations in order to not get the user bored, instead of relying on financial incentives.

Regarding the community/third party dev, I saw at Github, there are a few repos about Axie, I think it's pretty safe that the community got enough dev to build a thing on top of Axie ecosystem.

The downside is that the game in itself is centralized and not autonomous. If the developers of the game decide to shut the game or they hit a snag, the entire game and it's ecosystem will come crashing down along with the price of the NFTs since the NFTs will no longer be valid. Further, there is a gas fee for breeding and this makes it expensive if the resulting monsters are not in your favor.

I know Axie Infinity for about months a go, maybe. Half a year ago but I just started playing it approximately 3 weeks ago haha. If you're thinking of investing on Axie, you need to know that the value of SLP (the game reward) is also volatile like other cryptocurrencies. If it will go down that's kinda bad if you bought your axies for a $1500 or more.
