Obviously we’ve all heard about Bitcoin Beach and El Salvador, but what I want to know has anyone been there? Just about every crypto news and some of the bigger media channels have been posting articles about Bitcoin Beach since El Salvador’s decision to use Bitcoin, but it just seems like every one of these news sources are just jumping on the band wagon and just pumping out any tenuously linked story they can. Below is a picture that must have been used 100s if not 1000s of times ! To me this just smacks of lazy journalism. I was therefore wondering if anyone has been there or knows of anyone who’s been there and can tell us what it’s really like. Obviously don’t DOX yourself or anyone else. Again travel is not easy due to Covid restraints , but I’ll be going there some day . It’s on my bucket list and I’m really looking forward to a surf and several beers afterwards https://twitter.com/bitcoinbeach?s=21

You've obviously missed it, but there's a topic that was recently launched about a project that interests you - Bitcoin Beach project in El Salvador. I think it's a project that is mostly focused on local people, at least that's how I experienced it when I watched a video from that location (video is posted in linked thread). El Salvador is not exactly a tourist destination, and above all, it would hardly occur to anyone to travel there, if for nothing else, then due to the fact that it is not a safe country(high crime rate, gangs...).

Thanks for this Yep I’ve read that topic and I’ve been following them all on Twitter, but I was just wondering if anyone has actually been to Bitcoin Beach. I went to El Salvador many years ago ( pretty sure not that beach) and there was definitely an air of danger in the country, thankfully I never experienced any problems. Hopefully it’s a lot better/safer now

It is dangerous and not a good place for mining farms. If what you said is true. There will be no big mining farm moves to El Salvador in order to have greener energy resources. Anywhere has unstable society, politics is not good place for long term mining installations. The news from El Salvador is good for the market but it will not change the mining industry too much.

Hopefully it’s a lot better/safer now You're welcome I think the reason you're going to have a hard time finding someone who's been there is that El Zonte beach is actually for surfers, and that's why people go there. Maybe after all this media attention, El Salvador will become a popular place for all those who are looking for exotic travel and want to pay with Bitcoin - and it's great that you already have experience with visiting that country, I believe the second visit will be an even better experience.

You completely missed the thread, this is not about crypto mining, but about Bitcoin Village/beach - and if I understood correctly, you are responding to this post.

@Lucius thanks for the reply Just checked your link and doing a bit more research - jeez, I didn’t realise how small the village was - 3000 population! I’m sure this fluctuates with visitors- but still relatively small. Hopefully from small acorns , large oaks grow I’ll definitely get there one day - you’ve given me a little extra spur - thanks

Bitcoin has become quite popular in el salvador. I hope it continues this way. But I don't know what will happen when transaction fees increase. This can be a little sad.

Locals there can choose to get paid with bitcoin and use bitcoin beach's app to pay bills or buy their necessities. Tourists can also convert their bitcoin to cash on a bitcoin atm there. The video didn't mention if the town accepts payment of bitcoin from tourists because locals there only use bitcoin beach's app, and the app is only exclusive for them but this is already a good start for bitcoin adoption and really a place to put on the bucket list if you are a crypto enthusiast. https://youtu.be/jvHN0MEBoZo

We're just as curious as you are. I have found many articles and tweets about Bitcoinbeach which there will have an event there so I'm also looking forward to hearing from someone who really had gone there apart from the ones who just shills on the crypto news site.
I have watched Max Keiser's report where he had been talking to a guy but they were only discussing the app they were using and Max isn't even a fan of LN and not even the wallet they use there. So little has been said about what is going on in the bitcoinbeach like are they selling beach stuff there for BTC or are hotels and restaurants on the beach front open to accept BTC.

I have never visited El Salvador but I have found some tweets from people who went to El Salvador to know first hand how things were happening. I have also noticed that the Bitcoin beach Twitter account has multimedia content to get an idea of how they relate to things with bitcoin such as sending transactions, among others. This Strike tweet caught my attention because it made an announcement to integrate a Bitcoin core developer for the El Salvador project.

I am now wondering about experiments like this and if any of them have been successful but I am reading about a place in South Africa that tried this and it has worked. This one linked,,, but it is a bit racist but a good example to use which the lesson learnt is, you have to make the crypto fill a real and urgent need.

To be honest, El Salvador's announcement of Bitcoin as a fiat has no effect except for the residents of their country. In terms of price, the price of Bitcoin still fluctuates between US$30,000 and US$40,000, which is not even as big as Musk's Twitter. For miners, mines are more inclined to be established in places with a stable political environment, and El Salvador obviously does not meet the conditions. For this reason, El Salvador will not occupy a high hash rate.
However, El Salvador is a symbol, and Bitcoin can be used as a symbol of fiat. This is an important step in the development of Bitcoin, but it will not affect Bitcoin's position in today's world.

You're welcome, I'm glad if I helped you or encouraged you to be closer to that goal - and I personally would like to visit El Salvador and some other countries in that part of the world one day. Who knows, maybe see you at some local bar or on the beach while we pay with BTC
~snip~
Thanks for the video, although I have already seen something similar, this video is much better quality and gives a better insight into how things work in that community. This is just proof that Bitcoin can help people a lot, and that everyone, regardless of age, can use it. The example of a man paying his electricity bill from his house is really impressive, because before he had to spend as much as 3 hours to do it, now it takes him less than 1 minute

I would probably get killed over there as I am not from their preferred race,,, but yes, I do agree that this is the way things are done. The need and the desire for such things as independence and self determination must come from the community themselves. So it does not matter if the president says he wants Bitcoin,,, if this village on Bitcoin Beach wants it, then they have to prove it and do something. I do not know why those South Africans did not use Bitcoin, but maybe they just wanted something for themselves.

To find out what its really like there youtube is the go to place, surprise surprise the platform is flooded with Bitcoin Beach vids from 1, 2 and 3 weeks, the bandwagon has rolled onto youtube. I picked out some vids from the BB a d also some relevant ones for El Salvador older than a month, oldest on top. Its clear that a lot of people there are using Bitcoin, its probably their most viable option if you cannot access the banking system, or dont trust them https://youtu.be/S2A3Aw4At54https://youtu.be/2xOGSzUuJJghttps://youtu.be/UN7mujIRP-khttps://youtu.be/6qeVasKL3ykhttps://youtu.be/7VV0A_favrk

They are using applications built on LN. They aren't very concerned about transaction fees right this second. Apps like Strike also help this.
