Hello guys, a client of mine needs a research-based article that entails me using the darknet to source for information. I practically need to scavenge the darknet to get what I need. I've never accessed the darknet before and don't even know how to go about it. I'm considering the job because the client is paying really well. The issues are:

1) How do I access the darknet?
2) How do I use it safely, since I wouldn't want malicious users to exploit my machine.
3) How do I find the information I need there. I need to write on cyber crimes and hacking attempts, possibly before they happen...

LoyceV has already provided you with good initial references for points 1) and 2).
Point 3) will be a challenge for you. Especially considering the questions from the first two points.

While I cannot tell what exactly your client expects from you, if I were you, I would suggest they find another person to complete the job.

I prefer learning how people find what they're searching for there. Seems there are opportunities to learn a lot down there. If I can find out how searches are conducted in the darknet, I'll pull this off.

That's why he is asking. Whoever the person that pays well to him will probably need a lot more of the information to make his travel there safely. I have used TOR and gone to .onion websites before just to see what really is up there but I'm also not trusting anything. If you find the information you see on the internet through search engines, you may also find it difficult to believe what you see there.

if you are just for the good payment but will end up not delivering what your clients really looking , then better let the job be done by those who understand Dark Web.

and be honest with your client about you not knowing the Job he was asking for.

You do not have to accept that job, even if the paying is good. We do not know what will happen to us, especially we are not regular users to use the Darknet. You should search for the other job and if the paying is not good enough as that job, at least you do not have to risk anything.

If you still want to try, but you are worried about malicious viruses or malware or others, you can use Linux and use tor as @LoyceV suggested. Be careful when you access the Darknet.
