Guys since all this while I've been trying to figure out how good rtx3090 is for mining but what worries me is the memory temp and yet many people are using 3090 all this while, the question is if 3090 is bad alreday for mining many would have talked about dead RTX3090

Is there any news about dead RTX3090??

@Philipma1957 can you tell me how you manage to lower ram clock speed ? What is the software you used for this and thank you for your reply

These are not very popular video cards for mining due to the high price.
The 3090 does not have LHR models.
And now it is more profitable to buy 2 video cards 3060ti or 3070, because the hash rate will be higher and the power consumption will be lower.
I haven't heard bad news about them, just not all models give a high hash rate. Some models give 80-100 megahash due to overheating.

I use simplemining.com free download to a usb stick.  2 bucks a rig  each month.

I get world wide access to the rigs I have and can clock to various settings.

This evga is very good for a medium clock at lower watts.

https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=24G-P5-3987-KR

I paid about 2100 for each of the two total of 4200

The one below is on the way I paid 2250 for it. I was on the waiting list at evga for 5 1/2 months.

https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=24G-P5-3998-KR

These cards are more premium and I got all at retail or try close to retail.

These all do better then the shitty ones known to run hot and drop hash rates.

My two cards have mined for 5+6 months = 5.5 say 165 days   say 9 cents an mh or

9 x 226 = 20 bucks a day = 3300 earned back maybe spent 530 in power or

3300-530 = 2770

4200- 2770 = 1430 in the hole

no longer earns that 9 cents an mh it has dropped to 6 cents.  so

6 x 226 = 13.56 - 3.20 = 10.36 so 143 more days to breakeven. and I got them at msrp

Wait a little more. If miners will not take care about that high temperatures there will be lots of dead rtx 3080-3090 cards. It will not die in 2-3days. it will depend on how high they are running. Time will show.

yep which is why mine are at 285 watts not 315

and it is why my ram clocks are under the 2100 max.

I do mine at 1850

Lots of people don't understand the math of mining.  Mining is not a sprint it is back to back  to back marathons.

If my cards break it is the surest way to lose out.

At the moment I have 60-70 cards

amd 5000 series
amd 6000 series
nivida 3000 series

I have had 3 issues on the 60-70 cards

1 5700 power color
1 5500 gigabyte  they were in the same 2 card rig in an office they simply died I suspect a mobo issue. I got rma service on the 2 of them

1 msi 5600 mech card a dead fan.

These cards have been purchased since April 2020 Most in fall of 2020

the nvida 3000 in winter 2020/2021

No card is clocked stupidly.

a stupid clock would be clocking my 3090 cards at 320 watts and 2100 ram setting fans to 90%

I have been using gpus since 2012
I rather never push them as they last longer.

You know what you doing but most newbies they have no idea what they doing so im guessing there will be a lot 3080-3090 gpus in front of us. i know one, recently called me and asked why my rtx 3080 gettin 80mhs Smiley on start it gets 95. I asked whats memory temps he is telling me gpu temp. 5min i explained where is memory temps are and guess what he was running gpu under 110C for whole week just brand new card.

Nvidia isn't stupid and I think rtx3090 was created to handle the heat on the memory that people are so scared of, it's a wise question OP cos I've seen a dead rtx3090 yet as well, not a single one atleast

micron gddr6x datasheets says operating temp less than or equal 95c

there are other micron gddr6x info that writes as 95c/105c

stress max rating is 125c with a note: Exposure to absolute maximum rating conditions for extended periods may ad-versely affect reliability.

so keeping it below 95c seems to be the logical thing to do. a situational heat spike can push it to well above 100c, so know your environment very well.

Bravo very good answer. 95 must be your max reading. it is better keep it less 90.
If you want use it longer you must keep temps down. it will work at 100 or 110C also but how long? Im sure not very long time.

let us say you are using it at 105c, you maxed out the operating temp and one hot day you go into your bed room and cool off with your AC, then you fell asleep the sun got a bit hotter for just 1 hour pushing your 105c to stress levels if a bit lucky... if not, it breaks. shit happens.

It doesn't make sense, 3090 have been around a some time now if this card is designed wrongly they will be many dead 3090 already, does Radeon VII rings a bell? We all know it's a bad design from AMD and it doesn't take long before we start seeing dead VII GPUs

It designed for gaming and other stuff where memory temps are not going so high. If you have 3090 play game and look memory temps then mine eth and look memory temps again

Its complicated its not spike to 110 or even 115 temp that gaming may do.

But constant at 106 while mining hurts the card.

these cards can pull over 330 watts.

If i really push the cards and use outside extra fans I can get to 121 or 123 mh

but why when i can do 113 mh with very little extra cooling effort.

that 10 mh is 60cents so at 1800 days it is 1140 extra. pre power.

i went with 5 year warranty for 30 usd.

in my home power is 18 cents summer and 12 cents winter.

but the farm has huge amounts power so These cards will always make money unless they break.

many people buy with 20 cent or 25 cent power and they were pushing cards to get the money back.

I am certain bad 3090s will happen.

I simply buy new with warranty and do not push cards.

It is better way to mine.

I agree. It reminds me when everyone was pushing their RX 470/480/570/580 to the limit and abusing those cards,a lot of people I know do not have anymore these cards while I do because I kept them at 24-27 Mhsh at best while everybody else were running 31-32 Mhsh.I think RTX 3090 if treated like it is designed to and not pushing that temperature to the maximum limit can greatly increase this card life span.Personally I haven't seen a dead RTX 3090 and I know here where I live many people have built rigs with them which means they can handle the pressure,of course I and no one else knows for how long though.

Rx580 doing 30MH isn't a pushed hashrate, mine got this out of the box and it's very cool compare to 3090, I guess it all come down to temp and mine 580 hardly taste 58°C every day of mining, I still have a 480 since 2017 that still works 100%

Is there a need to buy a 3090 though? Considering you can get 3060 for cheap (at least in China), maybe you should rethink it. If you can buy from China or has a contact there, you might be able to save a lot of money and faster ROI. CMIIW.

Is there a need to buy a 3090 though? Considering you can get 3060 for cheap (at least in China), maybe you should rethink it. If you can buy from China or has a contact there, you might be able to save a lot of money and faster ROI. CMIIW.

Everyone keeps talking about how you can get cheap cards from China but it's all lies, AliExpress should be filled with cheap GPUs right now but the price are fairly the same still, I ordered for 10 GPUs from China, 3060s 1660s and Radeon Vega for ergo mining but only the Vega cards are cheaper, I still buy 1660 for 400$ each and 3060 700$

Patient my friend. It will not go cheap in 1 week. Right now we are in middle of 50/50. Lets see where it goes.
