CMC price is different from the one declared by official website

Hello guys, I was looking at this altcoin called Swirge, added to my watchlist, but some things make me uncomfortable about putting some money in it, for instance, on CMC I see a certain price, then I look upon the website and I found another price, then I search through Etherscan for more info and I find the same price declared by CMC.


Before trashing this coin I was wondering if anyone here maybe could know if sometimes CMC can make a mistake by declaring a wrong price (maybe I will give it try by putting a few dollars just to see if the price is correctly calculated).



P.S: Final question, is the price on CMC (the main number you see at the top of the page) always calculated using the USD as a pair?......or could I find a coin confronted with coins like ETH, BTC, etc..?

As far as I know, the price on CMC is per average price of each token, so maybe that's where the difference is. Because they are taking the price of the token in every exchange listed, so there is a big discrepancy. I would say you did a good job investigating the real price on the website.

Your next question about CMC is making a mistake, that's possible, I think historically they have posted wrong price too, (even before the Binance/CZ take over of CMC).

For example, coin A is trading on three exchanges that Coinmarketcap listed, if the coin is trading on exchange A at $10, while trading on exchange B at $5, and on exchange C at $9. The average of $5, $9 and $10 is $8. So the coin will be $8 on binance. CMC shows the average trading price from all exchanges. That's why you see price difference. Etherscan maybe does the same thing too. That' why both Etherscan and CMC ahs the same price. Actually,  almost all coin listing site will post average trading price. The official website is probably showing the price from a single exchange (likely from the one trading at the highest price). But, the sites can provide wrong data too. It has happened before, but they get fixed fast.
CMC shows the price in USD pair on main page. But you can click on the "customize" button and select price in BTC or ETH to see price in BTC or ETH on main page. You can check always the ETH, BTC pair by clicking on the coin though.

Not always paired with USD, you can also choose to pair your Cryptocurrency with many Fiat currency pairs, you can also pair it with BTC and ETH.
You just need to click the "USD" button at the top right, next to the Language selection button

Not always paired with USD, you can also choose to pair your Cryptocurrency with many Fiat currency pairs, you can also pair it with BTC and ETH.
You just need to click the "USD" button at the top right, next to the Language selection button

There's a lot of options that you can do in CMC, and you can actually change the currency into your local currency, though it might confused you since most of the cryptos are USD based. Anyway, some exchanges are different in values but not too much gap, maybe because it differs from the volume on those exchanges and that's why you'll see the gap, don't focus on CMC too much, just based the value of your portfolio on the exchange that you are using, that's more accurate.

Depends on which website you are looking into. In different exchanges, price may vary due to the difference between supply and demand in different exchanges. Apart from that, you should also know how CMC price algorithm works. They put more importance on exchanges which has more liquidity.
It is also possible that, in an exchange, the price is $1 for a certain coin but in other exchange the price is $1.50, but if there’s no more liquidity in the exchange where the price is $1.50, you can't say the current price of the coin is $1.50

Use coingecko to check the coinmarketcap data.
Wait for this token to grow 20 times again or you bought it on highs.
I looked at this project and its services, and it seems to me that I saw complete crap.

So, Yaunfida was right and anyway zasad was right now the coins/token was craps with such a low volume. If you havet this token/coin then gonna to be hard to sell cause low liquidity.

I don't think this is a mistake of CMC. CMC shows average price so maybe you saw a site that has a very high price or very low price. If you are confused you can ask them in their group about it. They must will help you.
The pair is in USD by default but you customize it. you can convert it in Eth, BTC, or another.

CMC doesn't always get the price right when it is decentralized exchange. So let's assume that the only place you can buy this coin is pancakeswap and it is not listed anywhere else, in that case there are many times CMC doesn't list the price correctly and that is why I understand it, it is not that much bad because it is just listing the price and doesn't mean anything bad for CMC or the coin itself.

If you are not sure about a coin because of this reason and there is absolutely nothing else wrong with it, I would say that it would be silly to end up not putting anything in it. However if you could check I am sure you could find something else wrong with it as well, there should be some more serious things that you should care about and not just this. Obviously the team and the roadmap and the whitepapers are the first things that you should check about.

Actually, CMC or data aggregator websites are using api to show data from exchanges whatever it’s cex or dex. Also, CMC or CG sometime shows the wrong price because of the same token ticker or glitch. BTW, you can findout token's price in different crypto or fiat currency by selecting into the filter section.

It was different because it was using the Hotbit exchange price and not the MEXC. Hotbit got a problem in their website like months ago about a cyber attack. One of my token is listed there that's why I saw this news and it was also valued using their exchange as the average price.
Just a heads up, you might want to re-check the coin you will buy because this kind of troubles will just lead to a bad ending. I think it was dump so much with a part of their team or if not, connected to the team. But, it's still your choice, just a warning.

About the other pairs, under the value of USD in CMC there is a BTC and Ethereum price too.
