Nice work, the problem is lots of those new accounts are bot accounts, alt accounts etc. I’d love to know how many NEW/ORIGINAL users we have starting accounts here but i don’t suppose that’ll ever be possible.

I completely agree with you that almost 30-35% of these accounts are alts or bot however I don't see any way to find out how many of them are original users.

Is there any reason why the stats of number of new members who registered from 2018 up to today are not show?
Also, the most online stats stopped showing in 2013.

It would be interesting to see how the numbers have been growing or declining over the years in comparison to the Bitcoin price and new forum feature implementations like the merit system.

I don't know how you extracted the data. But it doesn't seem to be true. Such data can be obtained based on accounts user IDs and their registration dates.

I took the no. of accounts registered from the source below and it does not count anything after December 2017.

I don't know how you extracted the data. But it doesn't seem to be true. Such data can be obtained based on accounts user IDs and their registration dates.

Check the source above, sum up the No. of Registered Users every year, it will give you the exact No. of Users Registered between 2009-2017.

OP, thanks for dropping this data, even if it was incomplete--and thank you hosseinimr93 for filling in the blanks I was curious about.  The data for 2018 are very interesting.  The massive influx of new accounts should indicate the fever pitch of the ICO craze, and all of the bounty hunters and their alt accounts that came along with it.  And the years since then reflect the crash (probably of ICOs but it could also be loss of enthusiasm for bitcoin due to the crash at the end of 2017).

Sure, but the numbers still have meaning.  I'm not sure how many could be actual bots, but I'd bet an enormous number of them are alt accounts.  I'm left wondering how many of these are actually active members, whether they're making posts or just participating in bounties.  There are a lot of accounts that are just completely inactive.

Maybe the way to determine this is to see their positions in their profile. If I'm correct, if they haven't made a single post but registered, it will just say Brand new, right?

yeah, they would stay as a brandew if they never made a post but if they ever made a single post and then it gets deleted the activity they got from that single post will remain and they will be stuck as a newbie rank.
so yeah, checking by their profile the only way to determine if they haven't made a single post.

I’ve contrasted some of the counts against and old profile database from end of 2018 (curtesy of @Piggy at the time), and one of the main discrepancies in the count until end of 2017 comes from the fact that the official stat for December  2017 is partial, displaying 63.756 users, whilst the real count is 191.454 (which is consistent with the end of 2017 boom). If fact, if we drill down on the forum stat page for December 2017, we’ll see it only runs down until the 13/12/2017 (which is also a partial reading). That account for most of the data discrepancy between @ImThour and @hosseinimr93 (there are other minor odd ends).

As to the number of accounts themselves, I haven’t got any recent data, but in July 2018, 72% of the accounts were brand new, meaning bot created, nuked, or simply created without posts. That fact is important to understand when we discuss the number of created accounts on the forum (active accounts are therefore way less).

No, if your posts are deleted, you lose the activity too.
If no post is left, the activity will decrease to zero and the user will be a brand new member again.

Look at this brand new member profile as an example.
As shown on Loyce.club, the user has made three posts. All these posts have been deleted.

You would get more precise information if you look at the number of active users, but I am not sure if you can get that stats for each year.
Lot of accounts are dormant and inactive and we have many examples of banned accounts, that all paints much more realistic picture compared to raw total number of registered members.
Is number of active users growing? No, I don't think so, according to DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard, number of posts are in constant and gradual decline for some time, and quality is also declining.

You're right! what I did earlier to check whether they would revert to being a brandnew or not was I opened an alt of mine and deleted the only post it has. I waited for over 30 mins and the 1 activity it has is still there, so I thought the activity remains even if all the post was deleted. clearly, I was wrong, thanks for clearing up my mistake!

Omg 2018 i think it was a best time for bitcoin. And according to you the highest number of people enter into bitcoin community. I think the reason was ATH of bitcoin. And in 2018 bitcoin gets a huge publicity not Only that the dump news becomes a record breaking news for government. But still people enter into bitcoin. I think lots of people comes up here for a testing perpose but they also might be impressed too. Now lets see where whole world are going to be dependent on technology then bitcoin is still the most advanced technology yet. So more people's are going to comes. And our hope after 2-3 years in every year we might get 4-5M people.

What do you think is it possible? If yes then how much price bitcoin can touch?

Whose hope?  Yours, maybe but I don't think the forum would necessarily be better if it had that many registered, active members.  The sad fact is that for every one newcomer who's here out of genuine interest, there are probably 20-50 who came just to participate in bounties, to scam, or for some other reason that leads them to become an unwelcome addition.

That's a different discussion altogether and one for the Speculation section.  I also don't agree that it was bitcoin's ATH in 2017 (which was surpassed this year) that drew in all of those new members.  I think it was the ICO craze and all of the bounties that allowed them to thrive.  I mean, come on....if signature campaigns and bounties were to suddenly disappear from bitcointalk, you'd see the number of posts being made drop substantially--and I mean the 'off-a-cliff' type of drop.

Back then account rank was based of activity, so people used to make multiple accounts and sell them later on. You get the point.

My guess: most of them never posted.
I know for sure that at least 880,381 users posted something. That's the number of users I have in my posts archive. Some of those may have deleted their posts, many others were Nuked. And I can't know which users lost all their posts before I started keeping track, so the real number will be higher.
