This is proof, people are now very smart to cheat. Luckily they caught him, the list of Faketoshi seems to be getting bigger because of BTC. I am sad that they believe so much in a system like this. In fact I have hundreds of messages offering to invest in crypto. But I would never believe this, so I ignored the offer messages that looked fun and made us rich quick. But thinking rationally is a very difficult thing, you need more research and experience.

Last week, Jörg Molt, known as "German Faketoshi", was arrested when he tried to travel from Germany (Frankfurt at Main, Airport) to Mexico.
He claimed to be a Co-Founder of Bitcoin, holding around 250,000 Bitcoin but never delievered a proof.
In addition, he ran a Ponzi called "Bitcoin Rent" where he collected 62 BTC.

German source: https://bitcoin-kurier.de/bitcoin-pension-polizei-nimmt-betreiber-am-flughafen-fest/

Jörg Molt was very disliked in Germany but got also very famous when he cheated Andreas Antonopoulos:

Luckily, he is arrested now for his fraud.  Cheesy

There would really be some consequences when you are trying out to make some lies on the public specially claiming out someone which is known without minding on what would be the result of such claim.

Arent he aware nor he didnt make some second thoughts on how badly the community and government been looking for Satoshi? People can easily claimed and we do only need that one proof
which is to move those funds on known wallet owned by satoshi itself and that would be enough. Any verbal claims wont really be counted but people do really love to play
on thins which shouldnt really be played at all.

As Bitcoin is getting more and more popular around the world, faketoshis of different nationalities are also rising.
This Faketoshi has been active for a very long time, his first appearences seems to be around 2015 / 2016.

Before his appearance as Faketoshi, various sources indicate his career as wedding DJCheesy Cheesy
Somewhen between 2013 - 2015, he changed his name from Jörg Oertl to Jörg Molt.
And I can imagine that he had to change his name because of his bad reputation...

By the way, this thread is a duplicate of this one: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5348741.msg57440703#msg57440703.
Sorry, looks like I've overlooked it, I did a quick search checking the titles and nothing showed up so far.

This is proof, people are now very smart to cheat.
Especially this Faketoshi isn't a very smart one. He has a record of being unsuccessful and living from government money, when he was fired from the military somewhen 20 years ago. After that he was a semi-professional wedding DJ. He isn't paying money to his 4 kids which he has from 3 wives and still claims to own 250,000 BTC...
There's an entire site documenting his lies and fraud: https://nakamolto.info/nm/
 Cheesy Cheesy

According to Andreas Antonopoulos, he has / had a whole team supporting his fraud:

most that will fall into seemingly high value proposition are gullible users who are after for get-rich-quick-scheme. and like this person, he used a fake profile to lure people invest on his fraudulent business. it will not stop if people will continue to patronise this kind of scheme. and there will always someone that will fall to this kind of trap.
by now, i hope a lot of crypto users already faced different kinds of these tactics that they can easily spot on potential fraud.

As Bitcoin is getting more and more popular around the world, faketoshis of different nationalities are also rising. This is getting ridiculous not only because they are obviously not Satoshi but because they have collected money out of their fake claim from gullible individuals. This is both a sort of a testament that Bitcoin is now getting popular and a warning that people should be cautious of weird individuals claiming to be the real Satoshi to scam them of their money.

By the way, this thread is a duplicate of this one: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5348741.msg57440703#msg57440703.

It's not even interesting anymore if someone claims to be Satoshi or part of the team around Satoshi. It would be so easy to prove it and if they choose not to, the situation is obviously clear. I haven't even been following Craig Wright anymore because as Vitalik once put it, if there is an easy way to prove a fact and a difficult way, and someone chooses the difficult way, it's almost always certainly wrong.

That's right. Thanks for sharing this. I wonder what this rule in logic is called, or if this is actually a logical rule.

We're just having fun looking at these weird individuals claiming to be Satoshi. But of course we all know they are all bogus. It is interesting how they could still manage to scam people.

As Bitcoin is getting more and more popular around the world, faketoshis of different nationalities are also rising.

Lol. This makes it even funnier. We didn't know Satoshi used to be a wedding DJ. Grin This man has a colorful life. Unlucky for him, he will have to live the rest of it in a cell.

I do not think he tricked Andreas,,, he just probably went to an event, asked to take a selfie picture and the nice man said yes. Very normal for a nice person to allow public to take selfies with them. The sad thing Andreas probably realized only later on was that the majority of people who have money to go to all these conferences are the saddest, meanest people in crypto.

Yes, AA was taken advantage of the German Faketoshi and if only AA would have known, he won't bother to take a picture with him.

Well good riddance, it's good that he has been arrested and put to justice. He has used the good name of Satoshi and probably well known personalities that's why he was able to run his Ponzi scheme and very confident that he wouldn't be caught by the law. But it's not the end, maybe we will hear another personality coming out and claiming to be Satoshi and then scamming people around.

Well,,, to be fair it is hard to expect AA to know everyone. He is busy educating people, no time to check profiles of others on Twitter and all that.

I actually have seen this guy before, he used to attend a lot of conferences in the last bullrun especially in Europe I believe, because you could see his pictures and presentations everywhere. Organizers obviously are a bunch of stupids for even allowing him in.

Have seen this German Faketoshi's Company promoted in Facebook, it wasn't much of an attraction because it wasn't good plus I know not to trust crypto ads advertised in Facebook because scams can advertise themselves there but I digress, more of this frauds claiming to be Satoshi is going to pop up even more in the near future, I know that for a fact.

He should face his ordeal I wonder why people derive joy in fraudulent acts. A whooping 62BTC that's been so self centered and wicked as well I wonder if he is trying to use illagal means to acquire wealth for his unborn generation. Germany did a great job compared to some uncivilized countries that would even cover the perpetrator then share the fund amongst them self

Does people think that satoshi would be that stupid (if alive) to dox himself holding 1 million coins? Which besides a enormous amount of money is also a liability for many.
Perhaps that fake satoshi is the stupid one, because just imagine doing it in public and you can't even show some proofs that you own a massive amount of bitcoin.. Lol well this isn't new actually that somebody claiming that they're satoshi and that's why i wasn't surprised anymore when i saw some sort of topic like this .because this kind of frauds is very obvious and they deserve to have punishment..

People everywhere claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto. Truth is even if they are the real Satoshi, it's not gonna be worth much. Nothing of value is gained and is lost by them declaring that they are who they claim they are because in the first place Satoshi made it clear that he doesn't want anyone knowing who he is. And that in itself is what had stuck in our heads as cryptocurrency enthusiasts. So even if the real Satoshi did show up in the future, unless he gives an undisputable evidence of who he claims to be we'll just consider him as another one of these Faketoshis

No, but if you successfully convince someone that he is Satoshi, you'll essentially be in the second level of the ponzi. There's incentive in pyramid schemes to support a head. Generally, in the human species; homo-sapiens differentiate from the other animals, due to their tribalism.
Monkeys for a start and other animals most surely too.

It's kinda hard to believe anyone that anyone would believe anyone that claims they are satoshi.

I think waking people up against such nonsense would perhaps be better, if you simply cut off their game they'll fall on their own and you won't even waste time punishing.

If Satoshi is still alive, he might find it annoying and interesting interesting at the same time to see this many people trying to impersonate him and claim his fame without any proof of identity. At the rate faketoshi It would be hard to believe anyone who claims to be satoshi without unlocking that wallet. I think it's the only valid proof of identity since these satoshi wannabes have exhausted other options.

Impersonation is one thing but using it as a plot to scam and defraud others, not cool.

Somewhen between 2013 - 2015, he changed his name from Jörg Oertl to Jörg Molt.
His ex wife said and confirmed that in time when Bitcoin was invented Jörg didn't even own a computer, so you can only imagine how he could create Bitcoin Smiley
It was interesting to see him in past taking pictures with some important Bitcoin people like Andreas Antonopoulos and claiming they are friends.
That reminds me about biggest scammer of all, main Faketoshi Craig Wright, who was in that time probably working as a farmer with vegetables but he also claims the same thing as Jörg.

I don't think he won't find it interesting because if there's a big epidemic of people impersonating Satoshi, I am sure that it will cause him.to get out of the proverbial Internet ice and say some things about this impersonators or probably use a different account and try to go for the long run where Satoshi primes people into thinking that anyone who claims they are Satoshi Nakamoto or the founder of bitcoin would always be met with a disbelief.

This kind of fraudulent strategy wouldn't work well especially now that most people know that the real Satoshi has hidden his real identity for his own reason. I wonder why lots of people are still claiming to be the real Satoshi despite all the possible hate and discrimination that they could get from people who have done researches about the founder of Bitcoin. I guess it's the right time to ignore desperate people who are claiming to be Satoshi.

For claiming that they are Satoshi for sure it will never work now since many are now aware that many of crazy people claiming that they are satoshi and most of the people now believe the evidence first before  the word that's why none of those claimants give a strong proof that they are the real satoshi. Also its not surprising to see those things even if they are hunted by hates since  for the sake of popularity they will do all what it takes since bad publicity still publicity  so provably they are preparing something which is more beneficial to them  so we need to be careful to them.

How could you guys be so sure that the scam strategy of people claiming to be Satoshi wont work when will thousand of newbies and naive investors which be easily tease by this liars. Have you ever ask yourself why Craig Wright etc still manage to lure people? Is because we have a lot of unexperienced people in this system especially when it ATH market season.

Cling18, The purpose was to make money and don't get about the hate which the same thought I believe those that participate in the scam gambling site campaign on this forum which start with 1xB** had.

In the meantime, I'm happy this guy was arrested and if it was Craig Wright the story would be more exciting.

Fraud is an act that is hated by everyone even though they have all committed fraud. I myself am also very angry if someone lies to me like Jorg Molt did.
I hope Jorg Molt or what is known as the German Faketoshi is responsible for what he did so that he doesn't do it again.
surely he won't dare to repeat his deception again because he will be very closely watched...

what I'm worried about from a scam like this is that there will be more scammers inspired by him disguised as a satoshi. Education about Bitcoin and who is Satoshi really should be encouraged.

I think that since many more Faketoshi-s will pop up now in a time where Bitcoin and crypto are extremely popular we should not trust these individuals. We only trust the true Satoshi when he will sign a message from those addresses that have 1 mln Bitcoin in them and we know that they belong to the real Satoshi. No matter what evidence these other guys provide unless they sign the message they have to be disbelieved and a good thing would be for them to happen the same as what happened to German Faketoshi,to be arrested.

It is because of people like this that people still belive bitcoin is a fraud and should be avoided. It is highly unlikely that someone who has been scammed by some like this would still be interested in knowing or using bitcoin
I'm glad he was arrested as this will only prove that bitcoin isn't the problem. It is the fact that some people are exploiting the popularity of bitcoin and the ignorance of people to commit scams
