Charles-Tim is absolutely right about that unnecessary fee. It's a real setback for a noble site like bitcointalk. Whatever the reason as penance for an evil IP (whatsoever that means) doesn't hold waters. Someone registering for the first time without anyone's direction or referral would think it's a scam site, honestly. I, for one, wouldn't have registered if that evil fee were there when I stumbled onto this forum in 2017. I mean, how do you convince someone to pay to register on a site that isn't a seminar class? How? Theymos should do something urgent about that.

Unless the new forum is going to be paying per post you can guarantee that no one will care other than old members who have to get used to the new forum.

Those who want a pay-to-post type of forum should look up Yobit's Cryptotalk. You won't earn any bitcoin with them, but you will get their native talk tokens. As far as I can see it's not listed anywhere but maybe they are planning to list it on their own exchange. Enjoy the spam fest and nonsense.

New members joining are not going to care if you have a old forum software or you are using the new state of the art forum software.

I would rather say the situation is reversed. Old members (including myself) wouldn't mind if the forum stayed the way it is right now. New users who are hooked on to social media want to see a more modern approach, emojis, likes, etc.

Getting paid for posting should be a privilege you earn by bringing quality to the boards and engaging the community in discussions. It shouldn't be there from the get-go. You can compare it to when you were a kid and started kicking a ball for the first time. As you grew up and developed, you started kicking it better and you played with your friends after school. You liked it so you joined a sports academy. If you are any good and show potential, you get a contract and make a career out of it.

Maybe the comparison is a little exaggerated, but the point is you weren't paid to play with your friends or when you started running after the ball aged 4. It's similar on the forum. You are a newbie when you come here. You start reading and learning, asking questions, and helping others with the things they don't know. You get noticed and merited, you develop and reach higher ranks, and you end up getting selected by a campaign to promote it and earn while doing so.

YoBit used to pay in Bitcoin via their exchange back in the early days, but the amount of abuse which was understandable caused them to shift to the TALK tokens.

It ain't gonna attract more users, as for the better one is still here in this current forum, much user-friendly IMO. And I also don't think the New Forum will get much exposure that this old one, If I were to choose, I'd better stay here

People will be attracted to Bitcoin, crypto market and the Bitcointalk.org forum mostly in bull market. It repeatedly happens in the past bull cycles.

A new forum software can attract new members but it would not be significant effect. The market cycle is more important.

I don't really think that these are new users, that if it is important, new users bring new ideas, new problems, etc.

It is the tedious idea that "change" is an improvement, and yes! That is a true assertion in the XXI century, the processes, systems and everything related are updated more quickly.

Who does not adapt to change simply faces the very simple conjecture "time question" that kills you (disappears) or strengthens you as a project in itself.

Social networks as the main mirror of comparison in their "success" perhaps are a mirage of where the forum can go with a change, when a popular social network reaches the top how many have fallen or are still surviving, that is, there is only one opportunity for the forum to enter the question of time guess, which does not guarantee anything, not even keep what exists.

In that sense, I think that the dilemma or the question is not whether there should be a change, but when it should be done?

I don't think the release of new forum software will increase the Bitcointalk user base because;
The new forum version or software we are expecting will not in anyway increase the number of quality or problem solving posts in the forum. It is the forum users that does that. Ever presence of quality posts keep old users and attract new users.
The new forum version will take care of the user friendliness of the forum, which is expected of every upgrade of a system. Therefore, it is only when someone is aware of something that a change will increase or decrease the user base.

I am of the opinion that the fund for new forum should be diverted to increase the visibility of this forum in the search engines. Such that whenever anyone searches any keyword about cryptocurrency, this forum appears. By this, the number of users will increase.

Another factor is the reason people join Bitcointalk. If someone joins because of some monetary benefits, once the person makes the money he is out. It is therefore necessary for the forum to breed and sustain users that are here primary for knowledge gaining and sharing. By this in 10yrs time, we could actually see what to look back at and smile.

The only thing that matters is the content and how supportive the community is. If there isn’t educational content or anyone working together on anything, this site is useless. Building a community that can work together to build on Bitcoin and educate others should be the only focus as that is all that matters for Bitcoin’s sake.

Or are we a dying breed of forum users taking their last breaths. At the same time, bigger (but not necessarily better) communities are being established elsewhere?

If a New Forum Software has been deployed would it really be practical to link important stuff such as Satoshi's First Announcement which reside to the old forum? Would it not be seen as a "it's a new thing, not legit", "FUD by creating new forum", and others. Then, what about the accounts that are relevant to the creation of Merits and sMerits which ultimately improved the quality of posting and regulate the signature campaign standards.

Case 2:

If we continue to use this forum the 12 year long legacy of Bitcointalk being one of the disruptive and controversial mode of payment which is a threat to bank will live on. Along with its rich history that includes, Satoshi's First Announcement ", "HODL", " Lauda's Termination ", and all the other drama's that makes Bitcointalk what it is today.

Is it really okay to leave this Forum and be rebranded or do we continue and press on? I'd prefer the latter.

If you think about it, the forum has already changed a lot since its inception. If you check this Bitcoin Wiki piece about the forum, you will learn that it wasn't always Bitcointalk.org. Looking at a few sources, it seems that the original URL was this one > http://bitcoin.sourceforge.net/boards/index.php. After that, the forum was moved to bitcoin.org. Now we have Bitcointalk.org, so the forum has already seen it's fair amount of changes. Another upgrade to a more modern software wouldn't hurt the forum or its importance.

What I learned in this forum is some knowledge, I feel that it is more formal in this forum, and it will be easier to use other software.
There are many rules in the forum, which restrain people, but if there are too many rules, you may lose some free spirits who are not willing to be bound by rules.
Many old posts can only be found by searching, but occasionally the search function is not very good, and it takes more time.
I think the forum is very good like this. You can learn a lot of knowledge, which is better than other software. When I think of learning about cryptocurrency, I think of forums.

I really don't think there are. To be able to make posts without having them deleted, you basically just have to remember a few basic things:

• Post in the correct sub-board.
• Don't copy and paste without providing a source.
• Don't make short, meaningless replies that don't add any value to the flow of information.
• Don't spam.
• Don't make multiple posts one below the other.

I don't think those requirements are hard to follow. For everything else, you can just ask what you don't understand or contact a mod if you have some issues.

Bitcointalk needs full, enormous change in a better way or this forum will turn into a digital museum where the legend has born.

We need a new forum with brand new features and capabilities, kinda a mix of stackoverflow, github and reddit with some exchange elements (at least it should carry btc price in live). It can be a great PR if bitcointalk has academy or publishes course on coursera, in my mind this website has huge potential but in a way it is represented today.

There was an idea of bitcoin land by theymos that was requiring enormous amount of money but the idea of developing this forum is 100% achievable, the man was thinking about island after all.

I really don't think there are.

Bitcointalk is one of the least "restraining" forums I've ever seen.  Even scammers are free to operate with near impunity here, and as far as what you can write, as long as it isn't spam or plagiarism, you're pretty much free to say what you want.  That's not true of many forums (at least in my experience), nor are there an excessive number of rules on this one.  Members who tend to have problems with those rules are the ones who just came here to use bitcointalk as a money-making mechanism and never bothered to read the rules in the first place.

Are you saying that they should give up on epochtalk and start from scratch designing a new forum?  If so, thank you for the smile.    The idea that the "new forum software" has taken so long to be developed that it needs to be scrapped and a new forum design started is funny to me.  It probably shouldn't be, but it is.  Reminds me of traffic problems playing Sim City as a kid.  You quickly learn that addressing traffic by building more roads is the best way to create more traffic problems.

You're clearly from the Hong Kong Road Service ... I have been here for 3 years, and all these 3 years I have only heard how the forum is being buried ... people are looking for information on thematic forums, since on the Internet there is no more detailed discussion of this or that issue that has arisen, (of course, if you want to draw your own conclusions). Therefore, bitcointalk will not go anywhere, provided that theymos will continue to do his job minimally.
