I can't find the limit online, is there a fixed one or is it just energy rating? We have ratings from A***** to E I think (and no I don't think they thought that through ).

I feel like those computers were quite highly rated though so I guess a lot of people will probably just import them from other places or build their own.

then toasters

Toasters are really efficient tbh. They seem much better than a grill - all they give off is heat. My excuse to get through so much toast in the winter was the heat the toaster gave it.

Philipma1957, thanks for noticing and posting this.  I'm almost speechless at the absolute stupidity of this, basically for the reasons that vapourminer pointed out.

What I'm wondering is why customers in those particular states are being restricted from buying 3070s and 3080s.  That isn't something Dell would just decide--it would have to come down from some governmental agency in each state, and if there are that many refusing to allow the purchase of high-end graphics cards, it seems to me that this must have been discussed in a national meeting (though I don't know what kind of meeting; it could be energy regulators or some other group).

When is this governmental cocksuckery aimed at crypto going to end?

If they actually banned everything that consumed more than that then they could pull this off but since this is not the case then it is obvious this is directed at those mining altcoins with graphic cards, what they do not understand is that they have effectively made gaming illegal in those states, which is a shame as there is a strong culture of gaming at California, so I suppose they will have the leave the state to get the right tools for their job and join all the people already leaving due to the ridiculous laws being put in place, and what better example of this than the fact you cannot even buy the hardware you want for your computer.

"This product cannot be shipped to the states of california, colorado, hawaii, oregon, vermont or washington due to power consumption regulations."

All 6 listed are democrat blue states.

Conservative right leaning states like florida and texas have recently adopted legislation friendly to bitcoin and crypto.

This could provide exposition for the increasing political divide surrounding bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

I think most know democrat Joe Biden (current US President) has been referred to as "China Joe".

Well, good news for gamers because the prices are going to go down for this models. Also, will it be loophole to buy it from a state that doesn't ban it and then move it to the state that has a ban on it? I mean you aren't crossing any borders to be checked right?

I don't think the value of it will go down. They will just sell it to another state at the same price.
That just means more availability for them as most people now are looking forward to high-end models but are having trouble purchasing with rarity or stock issues.

Again with the political attack even in this pandemic. Not everything is for cryptocurrencies but some just need a better model for ease with their work, and of course gaming.  Grin

Those six communist-like states are probably the worst places to live in United States and things are going to get even worse in near future.
They are soon going to start banning people for breathing air, drinking water, driving cars, and mining Bitcoin, unless you show them some bogus certificate on your phone and pay them more extra taxes.
I wonder why are people not used they head and say NO to all this crazy bs, but maybe they like all this Roll Eyes

That's a bit over the top to call them a commie states, did the Red Scare not eliminate every single one of this communist back in the 60s? The problem why people don't complain is because they don't have a critical thinking skills so they have a hard time being on the right side of things. This is the Selfish Generation.

Maybe not for the future mining gears but not for those already in production or ready for shipment when this ban notice came out. I mean there may be over supply to the states it's allowed so no rush for these buyers. Dell could be forced to lower the price so they can dispose them faster. I don't think they want their liquidity to be affected.

The ban is in 6 states.
It is for 3070 and for 3080 models

This does seem very strange, is this hardware well known as something that is used by miners? If it's true, it is quite a shocking development and seems more like something you would see in a communist country and not a free open market. These PC's could have plenty of uses outside of mining - hardcore architectural or product design and the highest end gaming to name a couple. What business is it of Dell's, or even the States, to determine that these PC's take too much power? They could be running off-grid using renewable energy and not have any impact on the wider society. This seems a very backwards step IF it is true.

I can't find the limit online, is there a fixed one or is it just energy rating? We have ratings from A***** to E I think (and no I don't think they thought that through ).

Just how do you rate a videocard based on that?
I understand with refrigerators, it's capacity vs consumption, for washing machines, it's a cycle and so on but on cards? Rendering vs watts?
This is absurd!

But yeah, the madness has started, soon we'll have state troopers pulling you and asking:
- have you drank something?
- you have drugs on you?
- you have maybe a laptop with a card capable of more than 100Mh/s in the trunk?
- do you carry a lighter that has a flame of over 2 cm?

That's a bit over the top to call them a commie states, did the Red Scare not eliminate every single one of this communist back in the 60s? The problem why people don't complain is because they don't have a critical thinking skills so they have a hard time being on the right side of things. This is the Selfish Generation.

No, it's not.
This is how socialism starts, with the state taking care of you and telling you what's bad and what's good, then when how it happens now in California business start to not want the new fleecing imposed it need to further rationalize resources, so it's going to tell you how much you can consume, how much you can eat and how much you should work for the x amount of money, and before you realized you're in communism.

Selfish generation? Do you want to go back to ration generation? Been there, no thank you!
