I was read Kickpad white paper, then try to copy it, that looks easy. That is one from Hundred.





the white paper is an important part of a project, that must be protected from plagiarism and by other people which trying to steal. when I look At the scam accusation board, there is a lot of plagiarists trying to steal projects by only copy-paste them from another project.

Is that hard to protect the whitepaper from plagiarists? No. that was easy. Just open the setting pdf file then protect it with a password and don't forget to set the permissions;

when haven't a tool to encrypted with a password, you must convert pdf to an image which uncopyable, there is a lot of online tools that can do that.

I just create this thread for warning, before launching, it doesn't hurt to protect it first.

Original or plagiarised white paper usually have bad quality. I meant a new scam project plagiarized a white paper of previous scam project. They are all bad in idea and quality of writing. You can find many mistakes in vocab or grammar.

They are scam projects so they don't hire good writers to make a good white paper. No idea for project, and not investment for writing.

I tried to make PDF using LibreOffice, setting up the permission, but I was still able to copy the pdf. I also try setting up it with either choice and both, I still can copy it.

And there are still thousands of online tools capable of extracting image from a pdf file, and who need tools when they can just screenshot the image and crop? And as for the locked pdf you suggested it is very possible to convert a locked pdf file to Ms Word, TXT and any format.

The thing is there is no way to stop plagiarism it just a waste of time if I don't want to use tools I can just open your PDF and retype it in my computer and start editing to my taste which is quite simple it won't take up to 1hr.

The best way to tackle plagiarism is to report when you spot one.

I also want to add that when I see that white paper is copy-protected, it looks like a red flag to me. That is, you need to carefully look at this document.
I can say that if a project creates a quality technical document written by a specialist and there are no copied materials in it, it is not worth protecting at all. After all, the publication date always remains with the owner.
And igehhh is right that today's online services easily read everything that is written in images.
Therefore, publishers of mediocre projects who are not able to write their white paper can be advised at least not to claim authorship, but to enter links to copied sources.

Knowledge is large even Satoshi made a lot of references in his bitcoin white paper because there were few things he copied from the failed E-payment system like ecash and so on. If I want to come up with a project related to renewable energy I may likely look up to existed projects like Fredenergy whitepaper and take some few things and add it to my own vision and there is no shame in that.

These lazy project white paper writers should at least have a little shame /conscience and give reference to the original author.

You own the file, this means you will able to copy it. Each software have different way, On my thread picture use PDF elements siftware.

croped image still need additional software to compiling page by page, white paper have over 1 page. using online converter the user don't need that.

I remember around the 2017-2018 bull run when the ICO craze started to boom, you can see a lot of altcoin projects starting to pop anywhere that is plagiarising their whitepaper, even some of their promotion banner like pictures are taken from other companies or people and they claiming it.

From the looks of it in the Scam Accusations, there are still a lot of projects keeping on doing it regardless. Well it is a scam anyway so regardless after the boom of the ICOs back in those years, and regardless of how many trends arrive, there will still be those sneaky rats having a sockpuppet accounts in here defending their scam.

If you search about "removing password protected pdf," you will find many ways to do that. So yeah, converting to image files first is the best practice IMO, even then many pdf readers support OCR. I think this issue is like disabling right click + copy in a website which is useless. It may prevent some newbies from copying the content, but if there is enough intention, I don't think we can stop them.

I'd rather make the document accessible and easily indexed by google, so if you google search some phrases, the document would be #1.

Some could still have a way around this solution to copy from a whitepaper. I try to imagine how copy-resistant the method is and i noticed a loophole.
I wish this community is more organized to the extent of having open platform where people can be incentivized to dedicate lots of their time in handling such cases. I prefer it to decentralized, transparent and autonomous group where contents/whitepaper can be protected and anyone can always use the platform to protect and prove their works are not plagiarized/copied, and the creators can receive some sort of badges, certificates, etc that prove a work is not plagiarized. In the end, whitepapers/contents creators will be advised to get their own cheap/free certification from that reputable platform to be taken seriously by crypto communities.

I don't understand what you meant by that bolded statement as far as I know croping doesn't need additional software or neither is it difficult to do, I can just screenshot an image and crop it automatically without needing any software.

Who cares about wasting 1-2hrs when he knows he is about to scam a lot of money out of it, wasting 1-2hrs to make a millions isn't a bad idea, do you know it's possible to screenshot the entire protected whitepaper and convert the jpg file to words?

There are thousand of offline, online, Paid, free plagiarism checker tools are available. but thanks for share this tool here.  Because many people do not know that how to check anything  plagiarism. all plagiarism checker works same way. What is the difference system & Facilities in your checker tools?

some pay people to write them. but I'm sure at this time and in the past, there have been many copy-paste findings such as examples.

@igehhh already said it all, I had that same thought in my mind while I was reading the ops message, this is because I have come across a password enabled pdf which with the help of an online tool (can't remember the name now), I was able to bypass the password requirement before accessing the document.
My thought is that, as long as technology is concerned, there are some things that can not be generally can't be stopped and one of them is plagiarism, stopping plagiarism will work individually, it doesn't have to be enforced, what do I mean? It requires me making a decision never to copy another person's or other peoples content, and you making the same decision, and every one in the world making this same decision. This is the only way plagiarism can be stopped if it's possible.

Thanks for the link, even that can't help to protect from plagiarism, maybe have the other way out there how to protecting with Digital signature (e-signature) if possible that can legal proceedings if copied
