I honestly stopped following Elon's statements since he only does it for publicity and just to manipulate the market and do it for his own benefit, but that said the idea of bitcoin being a currency and not an asset is quite difficult not only the whole idea about bitcoin moved so far from its original concept and people only look at it as an investment that make a lot of profit, but the network does not support a large number of microtransactions that are used for day to day bases since they take a long time to confirm and have high fees.
He's a businessman so expect that he will released statements just for his own benefits, he already see the potential to earn millions of dollars in crypto so its not surprising that he will use his popularity just to manipulate something since he has a reputation that he really do this for a purpose.
I agree with Elon. Who doesn't want BTC to be viewed as a currency primarily? However, it feels nearly impossible at this point due to various factors such as rising fees, TX times, uncertainty related to regulations, complicated learning curve etc.
These factors are the primary reason why BTC continues to be viewed as an asset primarily.
I feel that BTC can be viewed as a currency primarily if all these factors are addressed effectively through big developments such as mainstream adoption of LN etc.
Well the first thing comes on the people's mind is investment since as they viewed it that there money will grow if they keep hodling bitcoin, I can't blame people to think like that but also I like the idea that this one will be called as currency since we will have more great future coming towards this unlike if we treat it as currency since maybe government will see this badly and think about erasing it on the system.
