it's simple if you have knowledge about give and take rule!

Nothing is FREE, new project promote their product or expect a smart engagement by using your signature space for gathering more revenue. If things work out they share some revenue to their promoters, i mean signature participants.

It is a method of marketing and because the biggest bitcoin/cryptocurrency forum out in the internet apart from the subreddits is bitcointalk, therefore the abundance of signature campaigns in this forum.

New businesses attempt to get more users by running a campaign while projects funding themselves through token sale attempt to get more investors. So to answer your question, both maybe some more reasons.

Dont forget that you can wear any signature you want. Just because these campaigns are paid does not mean you have to take part. Instead grow your rank by earning merit first and then get into a campaign.

Marketing is the best term for signature campaign. Some investors and crypto enthusiast visit on forum to see what new projects are on the line and some of those new projects have services for some participants such as signature.

There are plenty of ways how signature could help someone to be exposed and get some traffic. So it safe to say that signature especially with those high rank can helped projects.

Wrong for the bold text, there are some users use their own signature for their own purpose like to get referrals by putting their referral link on the signature. The number of this kind of users is low indeed, but they exist and hard to recognize them.

In most cases, people would act such as what you said and left their signature space blank for a while if they are not in a campaign or no one rent it. But there are still some individuals who are willing to wear the signature of a company either in purpose to promote their own referral link or their own desire. Exactly. A project that wants to be presented to a wider group of people rents a signature area from forum users.

Crypto developers holding hands-on campaigns are unlikely to have any other purpose than promoting their products. if using google ads of course the market is not right, then it makes crypto developers use signatures to promote their products.

What they do expect? They are expecting to get users neither who do sign up and play on their site or would make out some investment if they are running an ICO. This is simply a marketing thing.
There are lots or various ways on promoting a project but since the trend is changing up and there are some methods which are more viable and relevant than on wasting up funds into something
which it isnt really that much effective then as a project owner then you would definitely go for the most efficient one.
