How to un--self-moderate a thread?

This may seem to be another nonsense from yours truly but I just thought this may be helpful for those who have created a self-moderated thread but no longer want/can continue self-moderating the thread.

Say, the thread has grown so large that self-moderating it isn't just something you can continue to do so.

Formula:
Find your Self-moderated topic, move it to a board that doesn't accept self-moderated thread.(Meta for example), then move it back to the board of its origin.

For example, I am creating this topic as a self-moderated thread, but I will move this to Meta and leave it there.

You should use Archival for this.

If that's the reason, it's better to lock it.

Mods still acts on reports in self moderated threads which breaks forum rules, but they would not enforce your local rules. If you're tired of self moderating a thread, you could just leave it, rather than trying to undo the self mod feature, at it has th same effect. Or as is suggested above, just lock the thread.

That's definitely a responsible thing to do, but I'd suggest that if someone opens a self-moderated thread and has any interest whatsoever in keeping it free from shitposts, they'd be monitoring it--at least the most recent posts--throughout its lifespan.  In other words, you only have to make sure the most recent page(s) are free from garbage, and assuming the thread isn't growing so rapidly that the creator can't keep up with reading the replies (which is unlikely), moderating it should be fairly easy.

In addition I'd say that it doesn't really take an extraordinary effort to keep a thread free from spam, because you can quickly scan it and recognize which posts are on-topic and worth keeping and which ones are written by idiots just trying to up their post count.

I've reported members for breaking my local rules before and those members ended up getting their posts deleted.  Those weren't in self-moderated threads, though (I'm not sure if that's what you were referring to).

Cool. Never knew archival is a no--self-moderated board.
I used the Meta board since this is a discussion regarding the forum.

There could be a million reasons why somebody would not want to continue self-moderating the thread. For example I saw somebody who raised in the unofficial rules about a self-moderated thread about constant complains etc.,

Hmmm. So apparently it is only me who thinks removing the self-moderated feature of a topic can be helpful.
