How many 009S risers are out there? I just ordered for 12 GPU risers all 009S version but they have only four capacitors on them and I'm seeing some from a friend that has more capacitors and yellow/ red in colour

There are many variations of risers out there. They have been out since 2014 pretty much and they have been slightly improved ever since. The amount of capacitors doesn't really matter, its more like to suppress any voltage variations and smooth out the supply. So as long as its not missing any parts then it should work.

Also most sellers especially on eBay or Alibabe they just send out random versions of risers. One month you can get version 009 and then you order more next month and you can get a completely different version. They got their own suppliers and switch parts back and forth.

I still use 006 or lesser in 2021 I don't care, all I care about is having a working riser in the system and mine away, some like those risers that have blue red lightening but they just consume more energy to me so now use getting anything fancy when mining crypto it's waste of money

You see more capacitors because pay attenstion one has 6pin other must have only molex.
Molex has 5 volts so there is less capacitors on molex model
6pin has only 12v so there is voltage regulators and capacitors to make 12v to 5v

The problem is that there are two types of 009S as far as I know and a simple google search just confirmed my idea.First type is the one that you have with a single 6 x pin connector together with the other connections and there are some other types usually red or white color that have two 6 pin connectors together with the other connections. This second type has better capacitors.Just search on google and aliexpress and you will see for yourself.

Here is a picture of the second version

I don't see big difference between this risers (009s) than more power ports ( 6pin, molex etc) and colours and they all work very well indeed, I still have spare old ones in my store and they work well too, I just like having spare parts that's why I still have them

There is at least 3 versions of the 009 riser

009C
009S
009

Normally the 009S risers have more power options (PCI-E / 4 pin molex / SATA)

I don't recommend that you power risers with the SATA port with the cable that comes with them, or with the SATA cable that comes with your PSU, it's a fire risk, most mid to high end GPU's can and will pull 75 watts from the x16 slot and this could happen to your GPU.

As for risers, there have been many revisions over the last 9+ years.

Thanks for the warning but

1. I've used 006 riser versions for years with no problem at all
2. GPUs like gtx1650 and 1660 can be powered using data cable though but it's not recommended, you can get away with this since gtx1660 can mining with 58watt to 70max, I ran 5 gtx1660 using SATA for months and the cable never heated up

The color of the capacitors depends on the manufacturer, so you should pay great attention to this.
SATA raisers are best used for powerful video cards, but I use these raisers for video cards that consume no more than 120 watts: PX 470, 1060, 1660 and so on.
In other cases, it is better to use 4-pin raisers or 6-pin.

Your friend probably has the latest version  009C, with 8 capacitors, a shielded pci-e slot, dual six pin pci-e power connectors and a 4-pin molex. Probably overkill for most cards except for power hungry cards like the 3090
