Abandoned account

Bitcointalk forum is a community that accommodates so many members, so many members have abandoned their account which could be due to the  cause of lost password or dealth. I'm imagining what could happen to all this account that have been abandoned by members for so many years. What could happen to a member who abandon his account for some years and he decide to be active in the forum, will the member still have access to that account.
Are abandoned account that have not been active for so long recovered by the forum??

accounts aren't locked automatically, if that's what you mean...

If you abandon your account, but remember your password, there is no time limit... you can come back whenever you feel like it.

If you did forget your password, but staked an address in an old, unedited post, you can prove your identity by signing a message, and your password will be reset.

If you did forget your password and didn't stake an address, it depends... Maybe you never changed your e-mail, maybe you posted a website you own, maybe you posted a twitter handle, maybe you have a dedicated home ip that's somewhere in the logs... So maybe you'll be able to recover your account... But don't get your hopes up.

Bottom line: stake an address AND don't forget your password... Especially if you're taking a break from bitcointalk, but you think there's a chance you'll come back in a far away future.

If you abandon your account, but remember your password, there is no time limit... you can come back whenever you feel like it.

Adding up to this, if the user abandons his/er account for more than 180 days and logs in again, a message "This user recently woke up from a long period of inactivity." will appear on the account's trust page.

You're considered to have woken up if your last login time is 180+ days ago, and the message remains for 30 days.

If you have forgotten the password but you have still access to the email address used at the time of registration, you can use "Forgot your password" option and reset your password via your email.

And note that your account will be locked if you use your secret question for recovering your account. (Click here for more information)

AFAIK, users can login after years with no issues in bitcointalk as long as you know the password, even if you forget you still can change your password via email but there will be some kind of warning in your trust page if you woke up after long inactivity.

Users accounts are not going to be locked unless it got hacked and the real own click the link which will be sent to the registered email account.
