The writer of the article just seemed to say it out the "nasty uses" of Bitcoin. Having your coin without any authority involved isn't a "nasty use" at all.
As what other mentioned in here, the first sentence pretty much tells it.

So many ads in this article..... ~
I used AdBlocker and the site begged to disable it for supporting the article. Cheesy
Like hell I would read more from that writer. Roll Eyes

Just from reading the first 2 sentences alone from that article, you'd immediately realize you're about to read pure crap.
I should've listened and now I regret wasting my time, reading an article written by a one-sided clown [SMH].

I’ve been asking the same question: Who needs cryptocurrencies? Apart from the nasty uses and wild speculative value swings, data mining to produce bitcoin is a serious environmental hazard, using huge amounts of electricity by rows and rows of computers.
A 5-year-old can give a better answer than that... All he sees is the cons [I wonder why] Roll Eyes

Why there are still writers write a subject they don't fully understand?  ┐( ̄ヮ ̄)┌
1. They're attention-seeking whores.
2. They're stupid.

Quote
Robert A. Manning is a senior fellow of the Brent Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security at the Atlantic Council. He was a senior counselor to the undersecretary of State for global affairs from 2001 to 2004, a member of the U.S. Department of State policy planning staff from 2004 to 2008 and on the National Intelligence Council strategic futures group from 2008 to 2012.

This explains it all. The author is drooling after a crypto ban, and even if it happens all they're gonna do is prove themselves wrong. Say everyone moved to XMR suddenly - their entire policy of banning crypto is gonna drop to the floor, lol. You can't ban the unbannable.

I didn't bother to read it. Any article that tries to make cryptocurrencies look bad and banks good deserves zero interest from me. Especially when the title contains “It's time” and “ban”.

Just from reading the first 2 sentences alone from that article, you'd immediately realize you're about to read pure crap.
By clickling Ctrl + F and typing “CBDC”, it can be made even worse.  Cheesy

bitcoins VALUE is based on cost of obtaining it. mainly it vibrates around the mining cost..(currently $25k china-$34k usa)
same as gold (mining cost is about $900)
No, it's not. If it costed over a billion dollars to extract a common rock from the ground, it wouldn't make it valuable. Bitcoin's value comes from the supply & the demand. That's all it. The demand of Bitcoin affects the mining cost not the opposite. Assuming the supply remains fixed (which is in Bitcoin), the demand is the only one responsible for the valuation. The more the demand, the more the miner's income, the more the miner's profit, the more the difficulty, the more the mining cost.

Simple as that.

Am not shilling for fiat but I must say what I can see and feel, btc is good yes but fiat still has the upper hand and is widely use till this very moment and perhaps till years to come, since fiat is the only source of transaction I can use for now I don't see why I should hate on it,  btc is only a decade and fiat has existed for centuries if am not mistaken, so it is only natural when you come across people defending it, lots of things as it is requires the use of fiat in other to achieve them, btc being a decentralized currency does not necessarily makes it a 100% perfect currency. I would prefer to use them both than have to choose one over the other.

It's unbelievable that some people still carry on with this backward thinking. when most people or even if it's a person is willing to pay for something, then it's because that person saw value in something they want to pay, and no one can say that something is worthless because something has value to someone who is willing to pay. we have examples of shitcoins, they have value, even if I or someone else says they are shitcoins, but there are people who are willing to pay for shitcoin so shitcoin has value. I don't know why there are still people who are arguing about this type of subject just when this market is already at a very high level of adoption
No matter how hard they try proving bitcoin as a worthless coin, people won't totally agree on it. Even how many times bitcoin will be bannned, it will only become more famous and more people will be curious on how bitcoin works.

I think this is not new to us as this issue on banning bitcoin and proving how worthless it is comes back in the market every now and then. But bitcoin has already made remarks on the people's lives and has given the people huge profits and earnings more than what fiat can offer to them.

What is up with the title op? Both the title and what you talked about don't really match well together which is why I suggest editing it to something more appropriate.

The article writer is dissing BTC and other cryptocurrencies for nonsensical reasons while promoting FIAT which is why I feel that he is an absolute idiot. He probably hates cryptocurrencies in general or simply wrote it for the financial incentive.

I opened my phone and turned on the Internet connection in it and I was bombarded by notifications, Gmail spams, Facebook notifications, Messenger chats and others but one thing that piqued my interest was this article in Google News. It talks about how bitcoin should be banned or something, I tried to read the whole article but I feel like it's just a rant about how bitcoin is worthless and the value of it is based on faith in reality it's the same as fiat, it's just that it's backed by the government that's why it has value, I mean if you go back to bronze age and you ask for a blacksmith to make you a sword and you pay the blacksmith a piece of paper telling the blacksmith that it has value, the blacksmith would probably laugh at you and just give you the sword for free since you aren't right on the head.

Here's the link to that article: https://thehill.com/opinion/cybersecurity/564696-bye-bye-bitcoin-time-to-ban-crypto-currencies
If you read the article and thought it was all bullshit, then why even share over here? You are just helping them spread their hate for bitcoin. Just ignore them. There are lot of ignorant people out there. Most of them don't even know how bitcoin works, yet they act like they know everything. They all are just seeking attention. Nothing else. I bet the same person who wrote the articles is going to regret not investing in bitcoin after few years  Wink.

I think that currently some articles about btc are on the rise. Whether it's a good article about btc or a bad one. One example was when there were several countries that banned crypto and I saw at that time a lot of articles that vilified btc. Of course it will have an impact, even if it is not much, but it will still affect people who do not have the courage to deal with the crypto world. And if that happens and more people believe it then it will make the market even more chaotic than ever. Therefore, it is important for us to filter out articles that are worth reading or articles that do not need to be read. It's all to keep our minds from negativity and stay focused on our original goals when joining the crypto world.

Is that site not owned by someone who is desperately looking for money? Wonder what kind of site that is and wonder why there are so many sponsored posts there. IMO, this is just clout chasing.

...I bet the same person who wrote the articles is going to regret not investing in bitcoin after few years  Wink.
Lol, they'll claim that they knew Bitcoin a long time ago but didn't feel like investing, whereas they are bashing it currently.

This article isn't a new story for me mate, I suggest to do more research about what's going on with that banning speculations. Many experts have been trying to pull down bitcoin and they're more like a crab grabbing btc down, yet nothing happened. The popularity increased every now and then, so I literally just tell those people who said things bad against bitcoin that it's not a bye bye bitcoin but rather good luck bashers.

Totally agree! The other members are right in saying that it is an opinion article by a person who does not know about bitcoin, the first sentences of the article confirm it.
I see it that he is an anti-Bitcoin and cryptocurrency writer that, like him, there are many that what they do is misinform.

Fortunately, we stick together to help people learn about bitcoin.
It is not easy but we are in the correct order that the technology is adopted in the largest companies. I'd like to see this guy's face when Amazon announces that it will receive bitcoin payments for whatever item its users want.

The article doesn't really add up anything to the discussion as to why bitcoin isn't worth something. It basically is someone's personal rant on something that they don't fully understand, and how everyone should avoid it just because they don't like it. Articles like these are appearing from time to time and aren't really anything that's particularly interesting, or something that is really worth reading. Those who do not see value in pseudo-anonymous payments are probably those who are okay to give their information without even asking what the companies and governments are going to do with it.

It's actually an anti bitcoin article that discourages the readers to patronize it. Of course it is vulnerable from hackers but its just one of the bad thing about it. Doesnt even realize there are many great things about bitcoin.

The blockchain system alone is beneficial to the other companies, the store of value which can be seen now as bitcoin's price is far different from the time it was created proves that its a success innovation.

Anybody who's heard of Bitcoin only from social media and did not proceed to understand it as it is might think Bitcoin is based solely on faith, that once a good number of people agree to put value to it and begin accepting it as a currency it would become one. It doesn't even count why Bitcoin earns such faith in the first place. Unlike fiat, there is really no reason for Bitcoin to get accepted by the first few persons who believed in it other than its features.

This is also comes to my mind, (I didn't read the article is purely click-bait) the author perhaps doesn't really understand what bitcoin is, hence the personal rant.

I think we have seen this all over, specially in the beginning of bitcoin wherein there's a lot of author who attack in and then moving 5-10 years after, they have change their mind. I remember one news outlet who even try to mine bitcoin early so obviously they have bitcoins in their wallet. Unfortunately, they have thrown or discard the private key. They do it just to prove something. So fast forward 2021, when we had a new all time high at $64k, they've realized this big mistakes, they should have been millionaires by now.

I do hope that the author will not realized the same mistakes until it's too late.

Just a typical opinion that has always been common to those people that can't accept the fact that cryptos got enormous value and are in market cap.

They probably have missed a lot and instead of joining the crypto bandwagon, they've chosen to stay where they are and cannot move on with what the market is showing them.

I do not think they will be interested in bitcoin because once they hate bitcoin, they will not start to search for the advantage of bitcoin instead of judging bitcoin negatively. Yes, maybe they do not need cryptocurrency because it has been used for illegal activity, but they do not see that bitcoin gives a chance for people to have money by invest in bitcoin. People can buy bitcoin and hold and do not do anything, just hold and sell whenever the price increases. By doing that, people's money will increase, which means they will have a chance to cover their bills and other expenses. As long as we can still use bitcoin, we do not have to think about them because we have our own options for our life and vice versa

Its just too obvious that the writer of this article is against btc and not happy on why many people are still using it. I didnt finish reading the article but I already get his point, just another human being who are not favor to btc and prefer fiat because it was backed by the government.

Clearly we cant please everyone to see the good side of what we currently believe in about bitcoin. There are people who close their mind to engage themselves in crypto for some reason and its quite understandable. Bitcoin is only for people who believe in it despite of not having a physical form.

I saw the article a few days ago and this author is badly misinformed. They don't know how Bitcoin works yet they are against it. His main argument is about ransomware attacks . This is not really a solution because cyber attackers are already doing something that is illegal. They don't care about the law and as long as there is a black market for people to cash out their cryptocurrency they will still demand it as ransom. Banning Bitcoin also doesn't magically fix cyber security issues so even if they can't receive payment bad guys will still want to attack vulnerable infrastructure.
