Hi community
I just bought at a chinese retailer a DPS-1200FB PSU.
It sounds to run normally except that :
1° When powering on, it does not do the usual cycle with fan running @ max few minutes. Instead, it stays quiet, running at very low RPM, almost impossible to hear. 2° When loaded ~600/700W, the fan remains at the same stock speed than without any load. However the metal case become very hot. ( Impossible to let finger more than a second on ) To prevent any frying I set on top 2 heatsink cooled with 120mm as a temporary solution. 3° Last but not least, output airflow smells hot compound, something like fried than shouldn't be that much to my mind. I don't tell it's burning, but it has sucpicious smell. 4° The more I let the PSU without cooling, the more my rig tends to crash
Do you think this PSU has been tweaked and sold with low noise adjustment for popular need ( noise killing )? Is it about to die because of worn out ?
Any advice appreciated and moreover the mod consisting of raising fan level

Stop using that psu immediately and protect your rig. i can imagine if you cant touch it then what temp it is inside. If you are looking cheap psu solution you can get 1 750w good psu + server psu or 750w+750w psu.

I would pay extra $ 100-150 more and buy a new ATX power supply unit Corsair for 1200 watts or 2 Corsairs for 750 watts. I would buy a server block only if I need a lot of 6-pin or 8-pin connectors and ATX blocks do not have enough of them. You should not save money when buying power supplies, the losses can be much greater.

As this PSU had evident thermal regulation problems, the seller fully refund me. Wanted to share it. Waste of time, but not of money. Thanks for your help I would pay extra $ 100-150 more and buy a new ATX power supply unit Corsair for 1200 watts or 2 Corsairs for 750 watts. $100-150 extra for Corsair ? Huh it's more like $300 Indeed I need 12x 6/8 pin connectors Stop buying chinese craps!
Buy EVGA, Seasonic, Corsair.
Troll ? This 1200FB is known to be the best mining one. Unfortunately everybody need it, so it becomes hard to get a rock stable or brand new one. Not ready to spend $350 in 70% exploited PSU Is there any PSU not chinese in the world ?

But it doesnt mean all chinese psu are good(it is wiritten 1600w but noway after i reach 1000w it gets hot so im kepping them at 800-900w. you must test before buy or buy 1 and test. then order 2nd. Im using them for cheap cards polaris. After i started using server psus im not looking anymore at high price psu. im buying normal 750w and + server psu doing my own cables even doing add2psu by myself.

It all depends on the offers on the market. Now you can drink good blocks with a 5-10 year warranty in any store. It won't be a mistake to overpay the extra $ 100 for a good PSU. When new branded power supplies are very expensive, then it is already worth looking at what is sold in China.
