Hi,
I guess it's an old debate.
This is a simple proposal. Sometimes, for more intense pleasure to read and participate here, we all end up "ignoring" some users  Embarrassed
As such rather than see this polluting line : This user is currently ignored. Why not simply shadow banned the ignore list?
I think it would be easier for reading and less tempting to un-ignore nefarious posters.
my 0.00000001 sat. opinions? agreements? disagreements?
Maybe with an option in the user profile to activate "shadow ban ignore list" or something like that...

I guess it's an old debate.
I don't know if there was much debate about it, but I do remember this suggestion being brought up at least once in the past--and personally I would love to have the option not to see any trace of the members I have on my ignore list.

If I recall correctly, there were some arguments that you'd still be able to see quoted posts by an ignored member, but to me that's not a big deal.  There were some other cons presented against it as well, but the last time someone brought this up was quite a long time ago (I think).  In any case, the suggestion came to nothing, just like most do here.  Theymos doesn't seem to be into adding any optional features to the forum as of late, and I don't expect him to chime in on this--so don't get your hopes up.

Mighty ironic seeing this complaint from someone polluting P&S with a shitload of deluded spam and borderline death threats.

my 0.00000001 sat. opinions? agreements? disagreements?

My opinion is that if you're too much of a snowflake to deal with one line of text, maybe the internet is not for you.

I've been using guitarplinker's userscript for quite some time now:

OP, I put together a simple Tampermonkey script to hide all the user fields of ignored users. Here's a Pastebin link: http://pastebin.com/raw/YCZX3uEe

Here's an image showing what hidden posts look like after installing the script:

Is that kind of what you were interested in having the script do, or did I miss something?

edit;

DYI, smart ! Almost, without "any trace" like the ignore list user didn't even post ! Because here there is still a line, creating temptation, to unmask. Is it safe? Thanks a lot for the suggestion, never better served than by oneself ! I would love to understand how this script works and how to install it, specially on a Whonix/Tail setup, and if it affects safety in any way? Maybe the owners of the forum should hire you Smiley.

In reality the problem is me, just weak... if I put on ignore, never unmasked ever again. strong.

code is public and you should use it at your own discretion

love you ! I agree fully !

+ for : "any trace"

+ for historic background
- (not your post) but for the lack of engagement... Sad

It would be great if this worked both ways as well.  Obsessive users can cause quite a distraction when they want to and their intentions almost never have what's best for Bitcoin in mind.  Sometimes like the AT&T girl and with regards to certain users and my input here, I feel like they've "lost the privilege of looking at it" and this should be reflected with a block button.  I've already made the request for the new forum software, but I'm sure there are plenty of already written block updates for SMF that could be simply implemented here if it was desired to do so.

I think that the purpose of the forum is to listen to everyone, and therefore ignoring is against the opinion of someone with whom you do not agree, but this does not mean that all opinions are incorrect or unimportant.
As for removing it completely, it's a good idea but I don't think it will be implemented soon, I suggest you use any userscrpit code instead.

Currently I use one that hides all low quality comments.

People can change and the line "This user is currently ignored" reminds you that member was ignored by you. If you remember that case, have time to glance at post history to find potential changes or want to bury the hatchet, the UnIgnore button works.

Many people don't change but some of them do. And if you are open-minded, want to refresh your Ignore list, it is helpful.

You won't have to go to your Profile and check your Ignore list in Ignore User options.

I've been using guitarplinker's userscript for quite some time now:
Thank you!  I had no idea a script like that existed--now I'll just have to figure out how to use it, but I definitely will.  Despite suchmoon's comments toward the OP of this thread (which I respect), I still think it's a decent suggestion.  If you ignore a user, it's annoying to even see that they've posted something.  I don't know how many times I've "peeked" at an ignored user's post--and I used to do that a lot when cryptohunter was around.

here's a compilation of other userscripts available: List of Bitcointalk.org Userscripts/ Add-ons
The irony is that I have the OP of that thread on ignore for some reason.  I'll have to take a look at his most recent posts to see if he should be un-ignored.  Again, I appreciate your link.

Self-moderated topics are another practical solution which angers fantastically the psywarfare operatiors and others trolls... Smiley.

Man ! you are awesome ! you are sooo right ! they have even lost the privilege to look at if logged ! love you Smiley. my theory is that it is used to tempt us, to let the psywarfare operators a chance to try to affect us. I guess maybe a "deal with the devil" kind of scenario?

I think that the purpose of the forum is to listen to everyone, and therefore ignoring is against the opinion of someone with whom you do not agree, but this does not mean that all opinions are incorrect or unimportant.
As for removing it completely, it's a good idea but I don't think it will be implemented soon, I suggest you use any userscrpit code instead.

You should read more about psywarfare and psychological campaign against specific opposition targets, the savak (american secret police) is rotten and corrupt to the core, and will use all necessary means to protect their regime, the establishement, salaries and pensions. they are faithless and soulless.

That's a nice idea ! Would you mind sharing it please?

This is a simple proposal. Sometimes, for more intense pleasure to read and participate here, we all end up "ignoring" some users  Embarrassed

No that's imho the naive opinion, as said above : create temptation, so that psywarfare operators have a chance to reach those they target.

I've been using guitarplinker's userscript for quite some time now:

That's exactly my point, visual comfort in reading, to not have "breaks" of flow. However as you said, earlier I had ignored "badecker" to finally remove him from it and accept him as he was, with all his qualities and flaws Smiley.

Thanks for sharing the script lists.

And it's not rall to see members been ignored unless something else happy between a User A and User B, before will be added to such list maybe their is collision between both parties, i notice also that some person's ignore people unknowing, because it's has happened to me and i continue to experienced it from ogNasty thread via encryption, both of us don't have issues but i notice from his thread that I'm invisible to him maybe is not aware, so I'm using this as a preference, at times when an opinion of a user is not suit to the forum they normally wiped it out from forum data base

People change, people get ignored for different reasons, most time it's out of their ignorance (not been informed). People get ignored for their posting style which as they grow into the forum are likely to adjust such habits into acceptable ones. People deserve second chances so that privilege shouldn't be taken away. The message constantly remind me of a user I have under my ignore list and for usernames I begin to see more frequently gets a reconsideration from me to see if they have stop their old ways and improve themself

I have many users on my ignore list that I believe would have changed their ways by now (I'm going to review that list right away). If I'm not been able to see a message reminding me of having them on my ignore list, I think it'll be difficult to track them all and possible just forget I have them on ignore since there's no reminder. Which means they'll miss the opportunity of recieving merits form me and my little contributions to their posts that's if they have changed.

I know the features wasn't created for me but since I'm entitled to an opinion on matter discussee here, that's my take on this topic.

I second this, on Reddit it works like what you mentioned, you don't even realize there is missing comment.

Code:
// ==UserScript==
// @name         Bitcointalk BettererIgnore
// @namespace    http://tampermonkey.net/
// @version      0.1.1
// @description  Completely hide all an ignored poster's reply
// @author       guitarplinker, slightly modified
// @match        https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=*
// @grant        none
// @require https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.12.0/jquery.min.js

// ==/UserScript==

$(document).ready(function() {
    $(".post").filter(function(a) {
        // If the text of an element with class "post" contains the ignored user message, then we'll manage hiding it
        if ($(this).text() === "This user is currently ignored.") {
            // Hide everything!
            $(this).parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().hide();
        }
    });
});

If you want the entire thing gone, just hide more. Cheers. Less time complaining, more time hitting right click.

My opinion is that if you're too much of a snowflake to deal with one line of text, maybe the internet is not for you.
Allow me to introduce you to the people who do not use the "RETURN" button. I hear they're working on bin Salman's new project, though.

I've got no problem with just ignoring a user - I just click on ignore and they are gone.  There might be some weak will individuals here within the Forum that can't help themselves and not only look but then click reply perpetuating their reasoning to clash with others.

They just need to let it go.
