Pro miners in the house I need your ideas this morning, I bought four Vega cards week ago and when setting the cards up for mining I noticed the heat was abnormally high by just turning on the motherboard and when I got a display on screen I got artifacts here and there, that's when I touched the GPU and noticed they are so hot

Later I find out that my power supply is bad, the 1600watt is a failed power supply that's supplying God knows voltage to the cards and Motherboard, after swapping to a new power supply the heat is gone but on of the cards is affected

Note
I still get display on the Vega 56 card but artifact is still alive

If the power supply was bad then it sure has done some damage to any components by giving them the wrong voltage. It is great that you changed to a working one but if the artifact is still there it is not a good sign.I think you should use a benchmark program for the GPU-s which will tell you how your GPU-s are behaving and compare to how it is regarding what other people are saying, what should be the GPU optimal parameters. If those parameters are correct then you have nothing to fear for and keep on mining,if those parameters are well below the recommended value then your card is damaged.

If it is Vega then say bye bye. Sorry to say that. You can only repair it if there is vega gpu chip around but this gpus are very rare. Vegas has good mosfets so usually all broken vegas are with dead gpu. Thats why i told other day use very good psu for vegas and radeon 7.they are very sensitive to cheap psu.

You cant mine with artifacted gpu. even you start mining you get incorrect shares or rig will crash

Try heat gun reflow, I've fixed two GPUs this way when they show artifacts on screen, the GPU still gets display and that's a good thing the high temp is what causes that artifacts so try your luck first before throwing the GPU away

I know cause whenever I tried to mine it will display 6MH on ETH and crash instantly, I believe something must have been damaged inside the GPU when they started to heat up, I'm glad it's only one down out of four though, I've learnt a lesson here, never buy cheap PSU for mining

I have 2 cheap psu they are working fine but i let work them with polaris and old gtx 1000 series cards. Many cheap psu has high pulsation i dont know how to explain that you can read about pulsation on internet. When load is high then cards feels more pulsation and it bring unstable rig even kill some gpus. So never forget do NOT load any psu to max. my cheap psu written 1600w but i cant load more than 900watts because it gets hot and i see too much ripple. Even you get good psu adjust your consumption and leave space min 80% whats written on psu.

Don't need to buy crappy power supplies. Better to buy proven server blocks or Corsairs with a 10 year warranty. Even if My corsair has a power of 1000 watts, then I will not load it more than 850 watts, although there will be no problems even for 1000 watts, but you need to take into account the efficiency and temperatures.

In your case, you need to do the diagnostics of the video card from a good master. This video card will be mined with errors.

Since the heat was high as soon as you turned it on, means the PSU was delivering the wrong voltage. Basically something like 6-9Volts instead of 12V and the components needed to compensate and ended up using 50-100% more current, hence why it was so hot to the touch.

If you are getting artifcats then you blew something up. Sometimes you can use a card that artifacts with mining only because you dont need display like a gamer, however if it crashes instantly then its not a display issue. Its too bad because its an expensive GPU and most likely you are way past the warranty. In the future don't use cheap or very old PSUs.

TheMimic1 writes about ripple.
For old power supplies, the voltage is not stable, but instead of 12 volts, 8-13 volts are supplied and these values change. This puts additional stress on the capacitors that fail. And then other elements on the video card are damaged.
Such moments need to be controlled with a multimeter.

Forget it  Grin the GPU is gone, Vega 56 and 64 are both rugged cards but at the same time they are also fragile, one silly mistake it's a complete good bye, never buy power packs with no popular names they are too many around in China, look for Corsair, OCZ and others
