Yesterday, a few new friends came to our home as guests, during which we talked about the topic of Bitcoin and blockchain.

A said that the greatness of Bitcoin is not that it is Bitcoin, but that it invented blockchain technology.

B said, no, blockchain technology created Bitcoin, and then there was blockchain before Bitcoin.

C said that their relationship is like the relationship between a chicken and an egg, which is a philosophical issue. It's hard to tell who came first.

D said After the birth of Bitcoin, it attracted the attention of some people. They found that Bitcoin is a good thing. There are many characteristics that modern society does not have. They continue to study it. A few years later, they found that Bitcoin uses a special bottom layer. Technology, they named this technology "blockchain".

E said that if from the order of appearance, there must be basic technology first, followed by technology-based applications. But in reality, everyone has said that they have heard of Bitcoin and not the blockchain. In other words, I heard about Bitcoin first and then about blockchain.
In fact, the reason is really very simple, there are two. 1. Because Bitcoin is so famous. 2. The application must be discovered before the basic technology.
It is also easy to understand that the application precedes the technology being discovered. For example, for ordinary people, they first know about cars, and then about internal combustion engine technology. First know the aircraft, but may not know the turbofan engine technology used in the aircraft

I said that from a technical point of view, the blockchain is known as the underlying technology of Bitcoin, and Bitcoin is the first application of the blockchain.
Therefore, Bitcoin and blockchain are equivalent to the relationship between a table and wood. People first discovered a beautiful table, and later discovered that the material of the table is a good wood, and it can also be used to make chairs, cabinets and boxes. and many more.

Who do you think is right?
What do you think is the relationship between Bitcoin and blockchain?

I found out that I was wrong.Thank you NeuroticFish and Xenon131 for providing information.

I think bitcoin and blockchain are like one body. Blockchain is a sequential chain of blocks that are assembled and distributed together. such as block data that contains all transaction details, from the number of coins, senders, to recipients of bitcoin tokens. so the relationship is very era.

Usually any new invention uses existing technologies and doesn't invent everything. For example a brand new car doesn't invent the wheel, it uses the existing technology (wheel, combustion engine,...) and builds on top of that.
Bitcoin is not different. The asymmetric cryptography, hash algorithms, idea for a proof of work (to prevent Email spam for instance), databases, and a dozen other things existed but someone (Satoshi Nakamoto) came up with a new technology that used all of these in the right way to create a new technology called Bitcoin that worked decentralized and secure.

I believe the idea of a cryptographically-linked chain of data existed before Bitcoin; however, the extension of that idea as it is manifested in Bitcoin (what we call a "block chain") was a part of the invention of Bitcoin.

Anyway, when people say "block chain, but not Bitcoin", they are really just hoping that they can adapt Bitcoin to do something else.

OP, have you done a quick search on the history of blockchain?
I've came easily to this page: https://www.icaew.com/technical/technology/blockchain/blockchain-articles/what-is-blockchain/history
Blockchain and digital coins too have a history from before Satoshi. He just put the pieces together perfectly and the result is a great implementation of blockchain and bitcoin as we know it. Blockchains can probably exist in different implementations too and they also clearly don't have to be public and hold bitcoin.

Blockchain is a special database. There are plenty of uses for blockchain and it can clearly exist without bitcoin.
Bitcoin runs on a public blockchain. Without the blockchain Bitcoin cannot exist. Period.

B is correct. The idea of blockchain was conceived in the 90s, IIRC.

The concept of Bitcoin as a currency was also conceived around that time as well, though in a rather unrefined and abstract form. It wasn't until B-money proposed a similar concept then Satoshi creating Bitcoin as a currency which combines all those into one.

Anyway, when people say "block chain, but not Bitcoin", they are really just hoping that they can adapt Bitcoin to do something else.

Or mostly, just uninformed. Saying "blockchain not Bitcoin" is like saying that Facebook is not innovative, MySQL/Python/PHP is. (not saying that these programming languages and database services aren't innovative, but you get what I mean)

To be honest, I haven't learned to search for old posts on the forum.

Thank you for sharing, let me understand that Bitcoin, as the first and most famous product produced by blockchain technology, has indeed greatly promoted the popularization and implementation of its own technology, and it is also because the popularity of Bitcoin itself has fed back the blockchain. Iteration and update of technology.

To be honest, I haven't learned to search for old posts on the forum.

This was internet search. But since you don't know how to search on the forum, I'll explain shortly:

1. There's the search offered by the forum, either from the search "tab", either the top-right quick-search box. Frankly, I'm no good friend of those  Smiley

2. You can use one of the search engines you like and do for example: "how to search" site:bitcointalk.org

The site:bitcointalk.org will make it search only in this forum.
If you use quotation marks you search for exact phrase; you will most probably search mostly without the quotation marks.

Your topic title=Topic: What do you think is the relationship between Bitcoin and blockchain?, Can you make sure you ask the members here-obviously.

And I saw the content of your topic-it looks like you already know, so what to answer again, if you already know it.

Additional answer for you= What is the Difference Between Blockchain And Bitcoin?

In my opinion Bitcoin and Blockchain are different but have a close relationship, Bitcoin is a Digital Asset that has a price for buying and selling and in simple terms Blockchain is a "public ledger" (digital ledger) to ensure that every transaction that occurs uses valid Bitcoins and movements the money is clearly recorded. So if you follow your opinion, Blockchain is the first technology before Bitcoin.

I can say it simply, without Blockchain technology, there's is no Bitcoin, and without Bitcoin there's is no Blockchain, because I believe both were introduced as tandem, that's why it has a very close/related relationship, Bitcoin and Blockchain technology are the first of its kind, Blockchain as a DLT in the Bitcoin Network. it's a technical problem I guess? that's why many details are not familiar to me, I'm just responding base on my opinion and limited capacity.

The origin of Bitcoin is long before 2009. Many articles from the table will answer your question.

Literature, Nakamoto Institute

You don't need to invent new things to do something as the best. With same software and in a same competition, you will find the best one with best solution. However, you can not call the winner of the competition as an inventor of anything.

Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency, while blockchain is a distributed database. Bitcoin is powered by blockchain technology, but blockchain has found many uses beyond Bitcoin. Bitcoin promotes anonymity, while blockchain is about transparency.

It's really different, when we are talking about bitcoins it's more or so like an application of blockchain I would say.

When we talk about blockchain, it's very varied and have more than a 1000 applications and now in 2021 we are seeing much more steps being taken in assimilating the whole system in the the governmental organizations and even normal places like schools and libraries.

..

Bitcoins on the other hand is the most popular crypto right now and it's doing great in that section, even though we have a lot of competition but it survived since 2009 and is still doing great.

..

They both are really important but cannot be compared one on one.

I've always knew they are two different things Woking hand to hand, for example Ethereum is a Blockchain asset existing in a cryptography same as Bitcoin existing on the Bitcoin Blockchain. However the existence of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies brought Blockchain to limelight.

If you research more about blockchain & Bitcoin then you will get your answer. To be honest, although Bitcoin has been running on the Blockchain, Bitcoin makes it popular. We can say Bitcoin makes blockchain popular. Definitely, blockchain was created before Bitcoin since Bitcoin was deployed on the blockchain. So Bitcoin is fully dependent on the Blockchain, but Blockchain is an individual technology. You can use Blockchain technology anywhere even without cryptocurrency. But Bitcoin can't exist except Blockchain. That's the relationship.

Well your some point is good. But not all point you compared bitcoin and blockchain with egg and hen philosophical matter. But according to my knowledge what i hear from a indian youtube channel called '' Technical Sagar'' one of his video about bitcoin history where he say blockchain is invented first. Then bitcoin is created on that network. Firstly blockchain technology was used by some secrect agencies plus all government authorize agency. They likely to use it for their confidential matter. Like they need to send documents, case history or any kind of secrect message they used blockchain technology so that hackers can't get those information because we know blockchain technology is anonymous. After that world is also introduced with that technology then people are try to use this technology as a file shareing technology like shareing biggest file Through torrent. We know now about torrent. What is it or how its work. Though people can use this secret road for there work but thre has only one issue of payment they can work secretly but for payment there has no secret path. In that time bitcoin invention becomes a bless for them. Now we know how bitcoin works. Now i think you understand that who comes first. But one thing i didn't say bitcoin invented for solving those secret peoples payment issue. We know  the main reason was creating bitcoin by satoshi nakamoto sir. But it becomes a bless for them..

Its my opinion others can be different. But i am shareing those things what i known from Technical sagar youtube channel.

The technology on the blockchain has existed almost before Bitcoin, but before the birth of Bitcoin, no one agreed with the blockchain, so Bitcoin was the first blockchain technology to be applied.
Blockchain is the core technology of Bitcoin. After Bitcoin was invented, many people began to understand the blockchain in Bitcoin and implemented blockchain technology in other applications.

The essence of blockchain is a decentralized distributed ledger database.
In essence, it should be said that there was Bitcoin first, and then blockchain. Bitcoin is a digital currency. The series of technologies involved in Bitcoin is called blockchain technology, and it is even the only blockchain application that has real influence.
