I have a couple of Avalon 1166 - 81T miners. they all work ok, except one, after about 32 minutes (and regularly at about 30-32 minutes) the fans will drop to 25% speed, then the miner starts to get too hot and it stair steps down and eventually turns off. It then turns itself back on and starts the cycle over again... running fine, then after about 30 minutes, the fans drop to 25% and it stair steps slower then shutsoff.

the fan drop to 25% is immediate.

the firmware version is the same as the others I have. all identical.

this is a new unit (to me and as far as I can tell it is not used), as are the others I have.

the ambient environment is about 31C. the miners all show about 33C-35C. When the problematic miner shuts down, it is showing a temp of 37C (I believe because fan speed dropped...)

Any ideas?

Thanks

It would be better if you could share your API logs here and don't forget to use the # button and put the logs inside then post it here.

I would like to know if the web interface is black that looks the same as this

If yes then try to access the advanced version to see the other features and I think you can adjust the fan speed there to run it at a fixed speed.

Follow this guide for troubleshooting below, not an exact model but it might still help you to troubleshoot your issue.

Welcome to the world of ASIC-based miners. I've ran into that with 1 A1041 and also a Whatsminer M10.

What is happening is that in Normal Mode (Avalons) / low-power mode (M10) they are not only reducing clock frequencies but also the Vcore applied to the chip strings. Due to manufacturing process variations and the mfgrs wanting to maximize usable chip yields sometimes a few marginal chips are pushing their bottom-end limits of reliable performance and are iffy about that. They will work for a bit until temperature changes push them over the edge causing some cores to drop out. When too many quit the controller sees that and restarts the miner and tries tuning again, runs for a bit, then rinse and repeat...

Performance mode uses higher Vcore to make sure the chips are happy at higher speed. End result is that the chips have a wider operating margin and run better.

This is similar to the multi-option firmware by Bitmain, I keep wondering why on earth won't these manufactures make an auto-tune firmware to tune every chip individually (at least the frequency for the miners that can't have different voltage), I mean BO+ does it, Vnish does it, and it works great, you get to utilize the "good" chips and let the "not so good" chips run at a different frequency that they like, and the results are.... just AWESOME.
