ouch. I have not bought from them recently as my last order was for 200 cases. I did buy some of their tubes in the last year or so though but those dont only hold the coins already in air-tites.

The capsules are great, but in addition to keeping things organized I always place them in tubes after they’ve been placed in capsules. This has the bonus of adding an extra layer of protection for those is us who may be obsessed with keeping their metal shiny. Like you, I have been using Air-Tites.com capsules since the beginning, always with great result.

Could you please post a clearer picture of the new "lip" added for ease of opening? I have seen the image you posted on Reddit, but I can not distinguish it. (I'm getting old lol)

The last batch of capsules I received (early July 2021) looks to be like the original, I can not see any difference, I have to use a sharp blade to open them once closed. (They are the I model) maybe they have changed the smaller models?

Please, any info you get from them, let us know.

I collected USA coins prior to getting down the rabbit hole of Bitcoin. I cannot see the picture of the Jackie Robinson face well enough to really tell but I am not sure that the marks on your coin actually are toning issues. These coins are plated with nickel over copper. At times the plating is not good and the copper shows thru. When this is pronounced it can add collectible value and be classified as an error. In some cases the nickel is left off altogether and these full copper colored versions are highly sought after. The other coin  where the copper shows along the edges is fairly common; where the plating missed, was thin and rubbed off, etc. (no extra value for this).

Toning usually shows up as the metal starting to turn to light colors or in the case of pennies, darken their bright red to a deep red. It is very commonly from the glue in paper holders, those Whitman books that you stick coins in. You see toned coins from these that have circular chemical reactions.

By the way, in most cases of USA coins, toning is not considered to devalue the coin or lower the grade. When the colors are cray they improve the value.

Anyway, Too much about fiat collecting. I am not doubting that the new airtites could have problems. Just throwing out some things I have learned along the way.

One more quick thing. I think that the foam could be a likely culprit if they actually are toning, maybe not the new notch to open them easier. Or, maybe air is entering at the notch, affecting the foam, and then affecting the coin. Who knows, but the foam has always been a question mark for me. I love the look of it, I have just wondered if it could be a point of creating chemical reaction.

These are  all .999 fine silver coins.  I have others that are very toned because they were inserts from packs and sold on ebay and what not. Half the set I got that way.  The other half I got from the grand daughter of someone who owned Pinnacle Mint Inc (pinnacle, donruss, Leaf), when he passed he left these for her. They went out of business in 1998 and they pocketed these, having never made it in to packs, and they were flawless..none of the others I had obtained were even close.  The foam has nothing to do with it.  Half my set is in the old capsules/foam and they have not changed one bit (and some have deep toning colors from the day I got them). This is the onset of toning, it's just getting started..so naturally while being somewhat air tight, it could take some time to get the deep colors.  For these coins, toning is not a plus..they are sports coins not fiat coins where that is not always a bad thing..it's terrible with these. It's either the new plastic, or the capsules letting in air.

My phone currently is an iphone 7 (just returned the Galaxy 21 ultra due to an awful battery) and I suck at taking photos..I will try but I'm not sure I can capture it.  It's hard to see, but when you run your finger nails across it , very evident.  You don't need a knife with those at all, even if your nails are very short.  I do have a decent microscope I bought just for coin surveying/photo taking actually, but not sure where it's at..will see if I can dig it up.

I got these most recent capsules I want to say in maybe Sept-Oct 2020..something like that.  Will try and confirm.  If you can't feel the lip/edge though, you're probably okay.  I noticed it right away w/the very first one.  I thought to myself at the time..man this seems like a security flaw that could possibly allow air to move in much more easily.. so glad I didn't listen to myself     But again, I've been buying from them for maybe 7-8 years with zero issues, always top quality.  I mean what on earth were they thinking..I can't see it being cheaper either & so what if the old ones were hard to open, that's the entire point.

A buddy who also collects these, has had them in climate control at all times, also has toning on every single one of his new ones as well.  So messed up.

Which size are your capsules? It might be they have changed that particular model. I have checked and from an order I placed and received on December 2020 they were exactly as always, as well as the last ones I got this year. Maybe they are shipping old stock, who knows...

If they can be opened easily... thats not a good sign.

Sorry man, that does suck. I've never trusted air-tites to be truly air-tight myself and have been burned as well like that, so now all my silver is either slabbed /graded, or sealed in archival type packaging, then stored in "real" airtight containers with some dessicant packets to suck out the moisture if any.. seems to work great so far, but would love to hear other's methods etc..
