What is your first choice of a bitcoin wallet? If its a free wallet thats even better.
It depends if you are using wallet for holding or spending Bitcoin but Open Source, trusted and tested by experts, should be priority when choosing wallet for you. Mobile and desktop wallets are free but they are mostly hot wallets used for spending coins unless you use them on some airgapped computer. Hardware wallets are not free but they are better choice for average crypto users. All wallets listed bellow are Open Source: Mobile wallets:: Electrum BlueWallet Desktop wallets: Electrum Wasabi Hardware wallets:: TrezorColdcardBitbox

You get almost every bitcoin wallet for free. Apart from a hardware wallet, you have to pay a few dollars for it. I use Electrum on PC and have coinomi for android mobile. I suggest you never use a blockchain wallet and Freewallet these could freeze your wallet any time they want.

What is your first choice of a bitcoin wallet? If its a free wallet thats even better.
Well i saw the expertise are given their opinion which are truely best option what they give. But excluding hardware wallet i didn't hear maximum of wallet name what they suggested. But now i will check it out your topic increase my little knowledge. Yeah my first priority is also a hardware wallet. Because its safe, secured and not expensive too. Because if we need safty for our money then its also a investment. Though last week i order a nano s and waiting for its delivery this investment is for my security. Now basically i used centralized wallet because i trade a little bit so i need to hold my money on different centralized exchange. And my choices wallet and exchange is binance, kucoin, gate.io, coinbase, mxc & ftx because they had live chat features too and i got my solution very fast. And by good i had never face any type of money lost. I always careful. But verysoon my nano s is coming for holding. Thats it its mine thought others can be different. Thank you

I use three types of wallets for holding bitcoin. My advice is not to keep all the funds in one wallet. Hardware wallet Trezor is better. Electrum is great in mobile wallets and I also prefer Electrum in desktop wallets. and if you want to trade daily base then I suggest holding fund Binance exchange.

Bitcoin Core is the only choice if you want to run a full node. I would not use any other wallet for a full node. If you do not want to run a node or store the full Blockchain then Electrum is the best option. If you want to have the safest online wallet then you would go with a hardware wallet. Any other wallets are not to be considered and I do not understand why they make new wallets when we have covered all basis with 3 of the above.

I have used binance, blockchain I know this aren't full wallet they are majorly exchanges but I have used them nevertheless but not as a long time wallet, am using electrum, and I really appreciate them, so long I keep my seed safe and password in transferring electrum, I like the way I can alter transaction fee, and really I am excited am the charges and the time for a transaction to be completed, so my preferred exchanges for me now is electrum, but for further safety I advice their cold wallet, but am really on the go most times.

Bitcoin Core due to its fee controls, API for developers, easy encrypted wallet file backup in the menu, and it contributes to the network. It also doesn't depend on third-party wallet API providers to process your transactions. This is safer and it also uses deterministic builds, which is good from a transparency standpoint

What is your first choice of a bitcoin wallet? If its a free wallet thats even better.
Well I have to admit that I have chosen the wrong free wallet before which made some of the coins lost. That was a freewallet.org, a mobile app wallet that has horrible service, I have lost a lot of my tokens as a bounty hunter and even their support did not answer you. Prepare your nightmare if you will sue this wallet, I suggest avoiding this wallet as much as possible. Later on, I discover Coinomi wallet which is support altcoins and bitcoin as well, but since you cannot modify the fees for bitcoin I am looking for a single bitcoin wallet that supports only bitcoin and fortunately --I found electrum that is a free good bitcoin wallet, you can use as a cold or hot wallet.

Pretty much every single Bitcoin wallet is free, besides hardware wallets of course. (which you should be using) But anyway, personal pick is BlueWallet[1] for the newbies, and WasabiWallet[2] for the slightly more "advanced" Bitcoiners.
[1] https://bluewallet.io/[2] https://wasabiwallet.io/Bluewallet is very easy to use, it's really recommended for newbies. the first bitcoin wallet I used was bluewallet

If i could choose i will always choose The Ledger Nano X is the second generation hardware wallet from Ledger, because the device itself is a cold storage hardware wallet. This gives users the ability to add new wallets for different cryptocurrencies to their devices and manage their portfolios. Ledger hardware wallets have been, and currently are, the most popular in the industry. So no doubt it will be my choice.

After know airdrop and bounty, i create others wallet like MyEtherWallet and etc. Now move them to my phone in Trust Wallet and next i will buy hardware wallet Safepal S1 Wallet.
MyEtherWallet is not a Bitcoin wallet, it is an ethereum wallet that also support ethereum tokens. Do you know that trust wallet is not an open source wallet, this is one of the major reasons I can not use it, close source wallets are not good to be used. The best wallets I have used before is electrum wallet but I am planing to still buy hardware wallet, I will prefer to buy trezor because it is open source and more tested than any other open source hardware wallets.

Personally, I am using a Blockchain web/android wallet for my Bitcoin. I am using Blockchain since the beginning of my crypto journey. Not yet faced big issues with my wallet. I have seen a lot of blockchain wallet issues in this forum, but still, I am fine with this wallet.
I know, for holding Bitcoin it's not good, Hardware wallets are best. As I am not holding any Big amount so I am fine with my Blockchain wallet. I also use Trust wallet sometimes to do Bitcoin transactions. If anyone wants to hold bitcoin, I would suggest a hardware wallet/Electrum wallet. It's best of all.

Not everyone knew the difference of decentralized wallet Vs centralised wallet when they are newbie in crypto space, I as a person started my crypto journey with copay wallet which gives me recovery seed but I still ended up moving my coins out to a centralised wallet that only requires email and password, in the end I lost my coins but today I use trust wallet and coinomi wallet only, maybe if I have huge amount of BTC some day I would buy hardware wallet instead

If you want to have the safest online wallet then you would go with a hardware wallet. Hardware wallets aren't considered online wallets. Even if connected to online devices like computers, the private keys stay protected in secure offline environments. That makes them convenient cold wallets.
@2girls1facemask Since you have already been hacked in the past, you might not be the most security-conscious individual. I am not sure how much of a help a desktop wallet will be to you if you have a tendency to visit dubious websites and download various things off the internet. If you have a spare computer/laptop and you are eager to learn, look into setting up an airgapped device by reformatting the OS and making sure it can no longer be connected to the internet. Electrum is one of the wallets that you can use as cold storage and make sure that your private keys and recovery phrases never touch the internet. If that sounds interesting to you, feel free to check out the linked guides below: Electrum Cold Storage TUTORIAL: How to use Electrum (for advanced users)

[1] https://bluewallet.io/[2] https://wasabiwallet.io/Apart from the hard wallets, obviously, in my particular case I have always used the Electrum Wallet and it has always worked smoothly, so this is the one I always recommend to my friends when they start operating with Bitcoin. I will have to prove Wasabi Wallet some day, anyway, as this is not the first time I hear about it from veteran members, but I don't find the right moment to do it.

My very first choice of wallet is MyEtherWallet, it's not a BTC wallet and i use it because it's free. But i lose my mneumonic key and unable to open my wallet since i lost it. The second wallet are Metamask, same as before metamask is also free and you can add custom token to it!

If I were to choose a free Bitcoin wallet as my first choice, I’ll go for Blockchain wallet. I simply don’t trust storing my BTC in centralized exchanges and wallets. However, if I have budget that would make my Bitcoin secured even more, I’ll go for Ledger Nano S (which I already have) and may plan to buy Trezor as well in the future.
