Why can forums cultivate the ability to think independently?

In such a fast-paced environment, do we find that our ability to think is degrading? Our ability to think independently is getting weaker, or even not at all.

I recalled the pace of my own life in the past few years. My fragmented time was spent on short videos, Twitter, and more videos, which made my pace become faster and faster.

I used to read newspapers. The text has a natural thinking attribute that can trigger me to think, but now I forget the video after I watch it. I will black out or block the content I don’t like, and I will comment on a few words if I like it. Just leave, maybe I will never turn over this video again. Looking back, I am getting more and more impatient with anything, let alone thinking.
We don't like reading books, we no longer think, we are domesticated by big data algorithms, and all the fragmented time is taken up.



And what we see more and more is the opinions of others, the thinking of others, we begin to follow everyone's thinking, we are less and less of our own personality, no value of our own.
Why do I say that forums can improve our ability to think independently?

• 1. Because forums are slower than short videos, we can stop and think about it at any time.
• 2. At present, most of the active users on the forum are relatively older, and the post-00s and post-90s are not the main force of the forum, but the forum at this time is not impetuous from the outside world, contrary, you can calm down and learn.

I think we can be kidnapped by short videos again and waste fragmented time. This will make us gradually lose our wisdom,Forums will enable us to really improve our thinking ability. Forums are generally good for encouraging discussions and getting people to think about things too before they say/interpret something the way they want to.

I think a lot of older people get news from only one source that aligns with their ideology too so it might help to break that down.

There's also at least 3 main types of English used on this forum too (European, American and Asian) and if you're not experienced in another's dialect you have to reread posts or infer by context sometimes which all take more time and watching a video and deciding not to rewind it - because the narrator didn't emphasise the word...

You can actually do things to make yourself more engaged in videos though, the best way I've found is to turn on subtitles and start following those as well as the speaker to try to keep yourself focussed on it (if you feel the video is of particular importance).

A bit of an optimistic view of the forums, I think. You can find diamonds in them, but they are hidden among a lot of junk. Just as they can make you rethink things, you can learn about the more outlandish conspiracy theories out there.

But if I had to make a balance, it would be more positive than negative. In the forums you can learn how to make money, like playing poker, there are economics and finance forums, and then there is this forum. So yes, they can help us but all that glitters is not gold.

forums can be a good place to talk openly
as long as the moderators dont have bias's where they only want certain thoughts spoken

there have been many instances where moderators dislike any criticism of certain topics.
they will happily ban/delete posts that dont fit the narrative the moderator wants

a forum is only as good as its moderators. and this forum is not perfect.

What you said is very good, and I agree with it. Usually when we open the video letters, we will still be visually affected. Why do you say that it is more in-depth thinking on the forum?
It is because text is more capable of making readers dig deeper than video after visual processing. But it does not rule out that some people can improve their learning ability through video.

Yes, because I often use short videos, I will spend more time on the forums during this time, and I found myself changing a little bit.,Following the changes, I discovered some of my own experience of independent thinking, but what about myself I really feel that independent thinking is very boring and difficult,I think some teachers with independent thinking ability here can give us some suggestions, or your skills and habits can also help us acquire the ability to think independently.

Because that's what they were designed to be, forums in Ancient Rome I think are used by scholars to do debates and other scholarly activities like preaching their schools of thought, Socratic method of conversation, it's been the function of the forum ever since the beginning.

Why do I say that forums can improve our ability to think independently?

Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and such actively monitor and filter whatever is posted there.
Forums - and especially this one (bitcointalk) - encourage freedom on speech. This allows people discuss without barriers and improves the chances for one "open his eyes" and start thinking independently.

However, it won't work for everybody, some prefer to spread (or believe!) misinformation here too. And I don't think that any forum can do anything about that.
Of course, this forum is not perfect either. But you'll learn that nothing is actually perfect on this world.

What can forums do better? I'm not sure. But I'm sure that if a certain forum doesn't fit your needs, you'll find another one. This is how internet works.

Forum gives us the freedom so we are thinking independent while those social media platforms are focused with the most engagement,views,likes and comments so they are going with the trend and just keep beating the dead horse again.

Interesting. I tend to go for short videos to avoid getting bored or entangled in long, incoherent, complicated and badly ordered contents/info.  I prefer to watch long videos made by people who do it well.

I don't depend too much on algorithm. I tend to search for what comes into my mind, and I'm really careful of recommended videos(for example) so no one is suggesting or giving me what to think. That's one of the ways people are controlled and made to behave in certain way.
And you have to be really careful of reward/incentive system that tries to make think or write in a particular way whether it's right or not.

Using forums as a place to share ideas and resources should be encouraged. Forums are also a great place for people to educate themselves about something that they’re not familiar with.

So while short videos can become a waste of time, forums can be a tool to help spark discussion and learning.

You usually will gravitate towards a forum that perhaps you have similar interests & ideals to the people who reside there. For that reason alone I think it’s likely you’ll feel comfortable to express yourself & maybe even learn from other likeminded people.
