is it possible to mine bitcoin anonymously

Hello all,

 Will be starting mining soon. Is there a way that I can hide my mining. in my country, it's still legal to mine but looks like there are talks on banning mining. I don't want to lose my hardware if mining is banned. Is it possible to mine anonymously using vpn or tor should such a thing happen(at least till my hardware lasts).

Mining over tor will dramatically increase the possibility of losing a block if you ever found one.

If you are mining on a pool, and don't think you will ever find a block, why would a pool want you to mine with them?
There are no bitcoins created unless a block is found.

Using a public VPN will also increase latency, sometimes dramatically also.
You have no control on the performance of the VPN and sometimes it can be good and sometimes very bad.

So, the simple answer is yes, but the relevant answer is:
it's a very bad idea to use tor,
and a bad idea to use a vpn unless you have full control over it and have full control over where your data is routed.

However, to include comment about the word 'anonymously'
No bitcoin mining is anonymous no matter what you do.

You can use a VPN, just get a decent router that supports VPN and use a paid VPN service, using VPN "may" and is likely to increase the latency of your mining operation, but if your connection to the VPN itself is good and you use a mining pool that has a server close to VPN location you connect to - the latency added will be very low and your earnings will not be affected by any considerable levels.

With that being said, should your country ban BTC mining you should NOT be mining bitcoin, the government always has other means to spot your mining operations even if you hide it from your ISP.

Or install and configure OpenVPN in Braiins OS, there is even a gui for it.

Of course, you could also use Stratum V2, which is encrypted, with dnscrypt-proxy in your lan which encrypts dns petitions, and also happens to cache dns.

Remember to petition your pool operator or asic manufacturer to add support for this, if they still haven't done so. Since there are people that don't care about privacy, living in safe free countries.

In the meantime, you can just switch to the firmware and pool that does support it.

Do you need an explanation of those two completely different terms?

I would also add that using their Braiins+ software is a security problem also.
The miner must have direct internet access to slush pool, you cannot secure your miner behind a firewall with a mining proxy.
The miner requires direct access to slush or it will not mine.

What are you talking about? How can mining be anonymous? Everything you use has long been under the control of special services or hackers

VPN is the only solution for your problem as suggested above you will need to set up your router that supports VPN because there are some routers that don't support VPN setup.

And the problem is the latency just like what kano pointed out but it depends on the VPN location you choose and it might be also depending on the number of the miner.
So how many miners do you plan to run anonymously?

in my opinion, i think your best bet would be to use a VPN and deal with the bs it'll bring. idk how much security it would actually add as if anyone was actually trying to find you, that's the first thing they'd look to see if you were using. perhaps look into setting one up w/ a raspberry pi:

no idea how it would perform tho. also not sure how much you are mining but IMO if you need to preserve your privacy you should use coinjoin or whirlpool, some sort of non-custodial mixer after you receive the mining rewards. rule of thumb, never spend mixed coins with unmixed coins or you risk doxxing yourself.
