You're right it's just a classic case of survivorship bias. If we were able to count the number of people doing the same thing like him during 20 years and not winning the jackpot prize we would certainly find the same proportion of losers as in people changing their lottery numbers every time.

That he is a lucky person and we can't sure if it will happen to us. He has a different story and we also have our own. If your problem will be about the patience, my problem will be on the bankroll. Looking at the attached image of the lottery ticket, it cost him $36. Spending $36 per day for lottery ticket is a huge amount for me obviously and it is not the amount I can afford to lose in single day since my monthly salary wont be able to cover it. I believe that there is a similar situation but not the longevity of the years but they both bet the same number combination for long years and finally win the jackpot after long time of betting daily.
This is mostly the combination of birthdays or some favorite numbers of the family of the said person in which they will put budget betting same combo day after day.

When I play the lottery, I prefer to change the numbers each time and randomly, because as I explained above, the probability of winning is the same. There are no numbers that give you more probability of winning than others. On the other hand, I have heard cases of people who always played the same combination and the week they didn't play because they forgot, or changed the numbers, those numbers (that they didn't play that week) were the jackpot.

If it isn't free, I believe he spends a lot of money if you add up all of his tickets. I really like this story and i think it is cool that he sticked to his favorite numbers for such a long time and that he was rewarded for that finally, even though i am pretty sure that he would have wished to win the lottery while he was still young. Honestly, the lottery habit is still running in my place which is dominated by elderly parents, while young people nowadays bet more at online casinos. And the most unique thing is that the grandparents created their own casino community. I will illustrate how they designed the casino.

Knowing that there's inflation and those early days, the ticket's price might not that been much, or if it was then that's high valued ticket before, and probably it's higher these days. Not quite impressive but totally exceptional and you would need all luck in the world before you could hit up a jackpot on lottery considering the odds then it is really close to impossible.
