The WBA is reducing the number of tittle holders.

A few days ago the WBA reduced the number of tittle holders from 55 to 31, the goal is to get to 17 but it is going to take some time for this to actually happen, personally I like this, boxing organizations seemed to think that by having more tittles they could get more money but just like what happens with fiat money they devalued the prestige of the true champions and there was even confusion about who was the true champion, fans complained about this and even if the WBA is not happy about the move it seems the fans have forced their hand, so by reducing the number of tittle holders those that were stripped of their titles will now participate in eliminator fights or have become mandatory fights for the current champions.

Perfectly mentioned mate , they are only making the boxing as Bread and Butter while boxers are becoming the victim of this manipulation .

and also the fans and gamblers are becoming victims as the fight sometimes being rigged .

This is the sad reality in boxing, the promoters have big influence on who's gonna fight who.
They always want to have the advantage and if possible not lose the 0 figure of their boxer.
And this is why Pacquiao is liked by many boxing fans, he never ducks and he always wants to fight the best.
In addition to that, he fights toe-to-toe not running away from his opponent.
With so many champions coming from WBA, WBO, IBF and WBC, we don't know who's the real champion anymore.

They have reduced the amount of world champions from 3 to 2 in each weight class, which is still way too many champions. They really do not deserve any credit for this move because they are only trying to clean up a mess that they made. They have ruined their reputation and the credibility of the sport with this nonsense. They were only concerned about the money and would give a belt to anybody willing to pay a sanctioning fee. Boxing commissions in countries where boxing is popular should have already stopped recognizing secondary world titles and refused to sanction any fight where one of these belts was at stake.

With so many champions coming from WBA, WBO, IBF and WBC, we don't know who's the real champion anymore.

By reducing the number of title holders, the audience will see the chance for each player to win on every match will be bigger because if one boxer can defeat the opponent, they will get a chance to fight with the other winner until the grand final, which only left two fighters that needs to fight for the real champion.

But having a champion on every level will be good to know that each champion will have different power and limitations on boxing. People should realize that every champion in every level of boxing will determine if they can go forward to the next level or just stay on their level.

Actually much better because it will boost the fights and it makes it more competitive and the fighters that will win will be much more proud because the title is much more rare since there's few to go around although it will be a slugfest for the champion because there's going to be a lot of challengers.

True. When I heard about Ugas recently (before the battle with Pac-man) and checked his profile I was confused about the "Super" champion thing while there is also a regular champion. The hell is that, like a fast food burger or hotdogs with special or regular option? With cheese or without cheese?

I think they should really fix this to also avoid confusion with fans. Discussing it with friends gave them a headache. I was telling them Ugas is a "Super" welterweight champion.
But they keep on forcing the idea that it was a welterweight not a super. I need to bring out my smartphone just to clear things out.

And it should've been done long ago imo. Just like other awards, having too many that hold the title means that the value of the title is going to lose its value over time. It's basically the same across other industries, hence why the selection for those awards is strict and rigorous. The titleholders for WBA may be achieved differently, but all the more reason to change it so that its value doesn't actually depreciate. Sad for the players, yes, but it's a must so that the award they'd actually gained reflects what they actually fought for.

I don't it is just the fans who have forced their hands, the WBN since made their decision to stoprecognizing the WBA as a sanctioning body in boxing, before President Gilberto Mendoza who was vice president before he became president of the WBA, a part of the his promise to the WBN was to "eradicate unpopular regular belts". This recent development of reducing the number of title holders is in line with the fulfillment of his promise made in a bid that they can be reclassified by the WBN.

This is how it should be.   To legitimize the sport of boxing. 
There is no reason to have so many different titles for same weigh class it makes the titles less valuable if there are so many of them.
