I saw in a thread (I forget which...) that it is more profitable to CPU mine for Litecoin than Bitcoin. Seeing as I don't have a mining GPU yet, I put on the Litecoin miner overnight to give it a shot, but I have a couple questions:
- why is it better to mine Litecoins than Bitcoins if you only can use a CPU?
- what is the Litecoin to Bitcoin exchange rate (or where could I find it?)
Answers would be appreciated.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

litecoin uses scrypt instead of sha-2. this algorithm is suited for cpu and not gpu.

Because you mine litecoin and sell them for bitcoins. You gain much more bitcoin in that way than directly mining bitcoin with a CPU

Coinotron here http://coinotron.com/coinotron/AccountServlet?action=home has profitability ratios which I found helpful at times.
