Im new to crypto mining and it's just been few weeks already, I'm going away on vacation just few days is it safe to leave my rig running? I can monitor through Nicehash app

Monitoring won't help if the rig blows up and starts a fire.
You'll probably get lots of opinions and it depends on your risk tolerance.
If you're the type that won't leave the house with the oven on or the clothes dryer running
then don't leave with the rig mining.

I was on vacation during most of August and although I make like in normal conditions 20-22 USD daily and now with the increased Ethereum price about 25-27 USD daily I shut down my rigs so I got to vacation with peace of mind.I know it is translated into lost money but my peace of mind during vacation is a lot more worth to me than the money lost by shutting down the rig.It all depends from your point of view.

Good question.

Best short answer is maybe.

Long answer I need a lot of detail.

a) what is the power supply make and model
b) what is a kill  a watt meter reading.
c) does the app allow you to shut the rig off?
d) what is your power in your home.
e) 120 volt is weaker 240 volt is stronger.
f) is your rig pushing the psu?
g) is your rig pushing the power circuit
H) do you run windows and nicehash app?
I} do you push the gpus hard

there are more questions to be asked.

If all are done low risk.  than the chance of burning down the house is low risk.

But if you run windows runaway thermals happen.  Ie the cards go right up to full power . not the low clocks set.

I've been mining since 2017.  I've gone on numerous vacations and left all my rigs running.  Never an issue... other than it sometimes stopped running due to power outages.  Zero melt downs, zero fires, zero blown circuits...  A question I do have... If you leave your house/apt for any amount of time (grocery shopping, eating out, socializing, work, visiting friends and family) do you shut your miner down during those hours of leave?  If not, its really no different because the malfunction you are concerned about can happen at any time and if you away for even 10 minutes and it happens you still aren't home to stop the issue.

No, actually you should never leave anything on while going somewhere and staying there longer than few hours, the longer you leave it running without any supervision, the easier is for it to cause lots of problems after you return. The feeling of smelling that something is burning can save not only you but your house, neighbors and so on.

i traveled in the past with the rigs turned on because i know every inch of the setup, electrical wires, cooling, rigs etc..but since you are newb the answer is NO

I've turned them always off because I know that eventually one of them would of crashed and I would of assumed the worst and create anxiety during my trip. These days you got security cameras and everything so you can actually see your place not burned down.

However maybe if it was in the winter, I might leave it running however not in the Summer where its difficult to control the ambient temperature. Depending on the outside temp sometimes I would need to adjust fan speeds or even shut some rigs down. The weather changes drastically here and it would be too much of a hassle to leave it running without any issues.

Maybe you can try to have wifi controlled power switch that controls all the power in your mining rigs. Have a CCTV so you can see what is happening on the farm and then if something happens, just turn it off remotely. I'm not sure if anyone has done this but maybe it's something to ponder upon. I use it for some electronics like the charging of e-bike and stuff. Maybe it can be applied towards this as well. They are very useful.

Yup its safe if build stable, when something crash or overheating, most likely shutdown automatically, or config autoshutdown if reach certain temp, im using raspberry pi to remote the power, through sms/text if something happen that crash local internet

Good example is summer in Canada, it got as high as 50 degrees celsius in some places that supposed to be 20c per past history. You never know, anyway, better be safe than sorry.

When i am was and also in the future going on a longer vacation i will be always shut down the Miners , just to be sure nothing happends !
For short Holidays like 2-3 Days i would be not doing it , but as others already have written i also know my setup and stuff exactly.
For a newbie and new one into all of this i would suggest to turn them off for the days you go on vacation .

If the farm is at home, it is better to use an IP camera for surveillance.
Buy a good camera for $ 30-40.
You need to buy a remote controlled smart plug.
Do not leave any electrical appliances in the quartet. Or for this purpose, equip a balcony or other utility room.
A concrete garage or shed is perfect for this.

This is why it's good to have someone else in charge of your mining rigs or farm, I stopped going on vacation few years back since I have to monitor my mining rigs, with lots of electricity been used everyday things are more dangerous to ignore, now I have a wife who look after my rig for me when I want to go far away from home 😜

The thing with fires is this...

I had many wires melt in the past and many GPUs go up in smoke. However as dangerious as it looks, it never lead to an actual fire. Most of the time when the wires are overloaded and start to melt, what will happen is they will no longer be able to conduct and it will just cause the system to crash. Most of the time you won't notice this until it starts to happen frequently and you need to investigate.

Same with GPUs going up in smoke. In the past what usually happened was I came home and rig was down. So I turned it back on and "BOOM" very loud noise and GPU released a big cloud of smoke, also smelled bad for an entire week. What happened was the GPU shorted out... PSU shut everything down and then I didn't know and restarted it anyways and it lead to the GPU blowing up.

It terms of probably starting a fire what you need is a live camera feed not monitoring app, rig can start fire and your app still shows you ongoing mining operations untill components starts getting burnt, have someone to check things out for you instead, a family member probably?

This is a remote control problem. If after the second remote start the farm does not turn on, or turns off very quickly, then you need to do an osmosis and look for the cause.
Usually transistors explode, and other elements on the board burn.
I was more fortunate, for this reason I burned several power supplies, which turned out to be very good.

Don't even think about it, when it comes to fire out break anything can cause it and when running a pc component round the clock it's even more dangerous, think about it wires can melt, socket might burnt and other things might happen you need to be there and make sure everything is running
