I've watched tons of mining videos on YouTube and I can mention few guys on YouTube that do videos about crypto mining but non ever go ahead to buy this CMP cards for mining, I haven't seen rigs build with these cards onboard, have you? It seems people don't like them that much and this CMP 170HX will see the same fate, oh unless it's dirt cheap which is not possible anyways.

Only utility of this will be mining and best use only ethash for now or any other memory intensive algo in future I guess, anyway, better to buy an asic, in the end asics will deliver much more hashrate per kwh, the issue here is that asics are scam haven, only few people will get them in the end, 80% will be scammed.

Still remember back in the days when waiting 3+ months for the tiny Jalapeno to mine Bitcoin with just 5Ghs ))) Hahaha

This year there were many different ASICs with hash rates above 2 Gigahesh, for example Linzhi Phoenix Miner, but the profit is still good. Ordinary miners will not get these video cards, I think large companies will buy these video cards. Vitalik promised us a POS algorithm, but it seems to me that it will be postponed again.

If the difficulty of the network keeps increasing like in these last few days then all the cards lower than 80 Mhsh will become pretty useless soon as 5 of them for example of 60 Mhsh a card and 300 Mhsh in total are right now making like 22-24 dollars daily which I know is good but once these beast cards with over 150 Mhsh hash rate become popular in mining Ethereum, the difficulty will sky rocket further making old cards like the Rx 570/580 completely irrelevant and worthless.Right now the difficulty is 8.7 P which is I think near the all time high for Ethereum network.

I predicted hbm2e cards can do 200mh..we'll see after some optimization and tweaks.
at 250w, this card might be cool enough.
price should not be more expensive than 3090 or at max around the price of 3090, it may have an expensive vram but they cheap out on other components since it is for mining only.
..since no video outputs(compute card), we can already call it an asic, an asic that requires a board, processor, ssd, ram, psu to run so the price of this compute card should not be directly proportional to asic's price-hash ratio, this compute card should be cheaper than asics and also no resell value to gamers.

How does someone who does this for a hobby (and therefore can't buy them in bulk directly from factories) get his hands on one of these when they are released?

It seems this card is locked, no overclocking is allowed, not sure if somebody will find a way to unlock it, reason I said this is more like an asic than a gpu, well some asics you can overclock. I guess nvidia will sell these cards based on how the market is paying for 1mhs eth per dollar, so meaning, lets say a 3070 does 64 unlocked, locked 32mhs, so 170mhs / 32 = 5.3, so how much a 3070 lhr is being sold for? 1000 usd, so meaning, minimum this product will be sold for at least 5000 usd. Here, there is an article saying it will cost 2000 to 3000, if that is right then they are taking a 3070 unlocked rather than a locked price based, https://wccftech.com/nvidia-cmp-170hx-cryptocurrency-mining-monster-card-spotted-ampere-ga100-gpu-164-mh-s/

Mr V. has a choice. bitmain + innosilicon + linzhi or amd + nvidia + intel or piece of shit. I think 🤔 he may pick amd + nvidia + intel. but it is simply a guess.

So I guess the rumor that we heard back a few months ago is finally true. What is the MSRP for this GPU like $3000 or so?
I think the bigger issue will be supply. How many of these GPUs will Nvidia actually make? I have a feeling they are just producing this for marketing reasons and not really to turn a profit. After R&D they are probably going to lose money on ever GPU sold.
In the end... I don't think Nvidia releasing this GPU will make the difficulty rise too much. The bigger issue miners got right now are those ASics which are being released that hash in the Gh's and are crazy efficient compared to GPUs.

i would not call it video cards, having no video output means it is an asic. remember you need other pc components plus OS to use this asic.

innosilicon a11 pro 2000MH at 2500w CMP 170HX 165MH at 250w x 10 = 1650MH at 2500w it is very close to asic performance and has the ability to mine other coins, the price vs asics is what we should watch closely hehe

Is possible if they had minimum 1.5tb memory bandwidth and most likely newer hbm will fit, but the price will be to expensive for miner specially nvidia side, the cheapest one radeon 7 that had 1tb bandwidth perfome 100+mhs, cost 700$ and the card itself have many failure in customer hand

Not unless you also consider Tesla (the Nvidia one) an ASIC. CMP Is just a cheap Tesla limited to Gen1 x4 to prevent them from being used to replace expensive Teslas.

https://twitter.com/sorcer/status/1341451423528218624NVIDIA A100 - 10 000$ 175MH I am not interested in ASICs for Ethereum, because they have no prospects for the future, except for mining Ethereum Classic. My colleagues hope that Ethereum mining will still be relevant this year.

I'm wondering how AMD CDNA/CDNA2 compute cards can manage.
They are the true successors to the Radeon VII cards. All have HBM on them. They should be similar to the Nvidia ones if we look at the bandwidth alone. And they will most likely not gimp performance and differentiate between Mining/ASIC and their compute capabilities.
AMD is increasing their performance at a staggering pace each generation and I see no news or stories about these cards at all. No interest at all it seems.

That is because in this market AMD has always been behind Nvidia. If you look at the times of the Quadro cards from Nvidia and Firepower from AMD you will see that 90% of all businesses bought the Quadro versions. AMD could not keep up with Nvidia at that stage. It is true though that the performance of AMD has always been up and hopefully they produce cards like you say which are not limited to only mining but they can work in other heavy duties well too.

Mining/ASIC
The term ASIC seems to be misused, a little clarity... CMP is not an ASIC, it's a vector processing platform. A GPU is a vector processor on a graphics card. Vector processors are used in supercomputers. A processor can run any application via software. ASIC is an Application Specific Integrated Circuit, not a synonym for miner. An ASIC can only run the specific application it's designed for. An ASIC miner is a miner built with ASICs designed for mining a specific algorithm.
