[Question] What's the forum record?

The current auction for the Bitbill has made me wonder what the record is for the highest priced item sold on the forum?

This may be unanswerable or there may be several ways to answer depending on how you value it. Is one bitcoin 5 years ago more than 1 bitcoin today, or is it still one bitcoin?

Anyway, OGs on here may recall some of the highest priced items sold here.

1 btc will always be 1 btc, which will continue gaining purchasing power until our grandchildrens' grandkids die of old age unlike any other asset. I haven't been around long enough to know how much btc premium others have spent on their collection but my 1st days here 30% won most auctions I was involved in

5 minutes before reading your post I asked myself if somebody will be willing to pay BTC0,15 (>0,17 with shipping etc.) in a distant future for the gorgeous KIALARA that I won in this auction: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5337032.0

Albeit it's a clear 'profit' right now (as if art could be measured in financial profits) compared to the prices on KIALARA's webshop for which the Messenger-Series wallets once were sold:
-> There (by definition of BTC's block-reward distribution mechanism) will come the point in future when the sheer price of Bitcoin exceeds what one will be willing to pay in €/$/£/or any other FIAT.
Your example portrays that very well...

What to learn from this: "SELL COLLECTIBLES IN BTC & HODL" as well as "BUY COLLECTIBLES IN FIAT MONEY"... if possible & if you think BTC is going up long-term.

BUT if I would be forced to sell my small collection -> this piece would be one of the very last objects I would ever give away!

I think this has to be the winner either way you slice it: 1. 1250 BTC 2. $1,000,000 USD at the time. Also, the premium of 250 BTC at the time was $200k USD!

I think the buyer is ok though since the item in BTC alone is now worth $50M.

Not in the official 'on the forum' ranking, but I remember somebody paying 10.000 BTC for 2 Pizzas worth 20 bucks or so back in 2010... compared to the price of BTC at that time (let's say: defined by this very trade) the 'premium' in miner fees isn't worth mentioning, not at all... albeit: best overall performance ever on that 'tip' in whole of BTC. Or did I miss something in my hypothesis?

The free marketing for sure is priceless but when it comes to pure 'premium' (like in: giving all & getting nothing) the 7.500 BTC 'stored' on a landfill site in South Wales top the roughly 2,2 BTC I can contribute to the list of 'forever lost Bitcoins' easily!

My story involves CPU-mining on the Bitcoin-Qt client V0.7? for half a day testwise as well as formatting aforementioned Mac's rotating hard drive (I don't know how many times) before even recognizing what I once had there but way more important:'Long before recognizing the sheer potential that Bitcoin holds ready for all of us.'

There are several characteristc traits wherein Bitcoin has changed or more evolved me over time and nothing else could have taught me some of BTC's most precious main characterizations in shorter time than understanding the white-paper and living thru a full bull&bear-market-210.000blocks-cycle as miner.
At least to say: What happens when block-reward halvening-effects are combined with Gartner's hype-cycle, furthermore paired with network-effects and all of that crashes into an evermore worthless FIAT money-printing financial system that ist based on faith
But this all happened 'only' 2-3 years after allready having mined (and formatted extensively) some Bitcoins^^ Better late then never... not to say we are anywhere near of late!

So, to close the cycle: The 60GH/s ButterFlyLabs shown on the picture now serves as memorial (for always proofing partners extensively before choosing them => yesss, I sank quite some money on BFL) and as a stand for KIALARA beauties which for me symbolizes: Better times on top of all that drudgery.

Man whatever happened to Goat......he used to be everywhere way back when, I took a break for a few years after my account got hacked, and totally forgot about him. Retired on Yacht I hope.


EDIT: *Gulp* I just ran a search. Turns out he was a massive scammer, and scammed 1000's of BTC off people. Hopefully he had a actual boating accident in said yacht, and sank with it. Fucking hell. All these people needed to do was hodl from back then, and they would all be rich, instead so many of them went of the deep end. I guess early bitcoin adopters always were a weird bunch. But fuck, between him and Risto, two of the most prolific poster here I remember from way back in the day.....sad and shite. Fucking glad Bitcoin has come so far though, whole space is amazing compared to what we dared to dream way back then.

  Yeah sad but true....many stories like that. As for btc, it shakes off the weak that do no hodl...only the hodlers survive.
