Sad story. Not he ruined his own life and now his daughter's life is also ruined. It is okay to be open to others about your gambling activity because there are possible some who can give advice if you are in a danger zone, somewhat like turn to addiction.

I think my gambling habits are heavily influenced by my dad and my grand father. When I was a kid, we used to own a cock farm for fighting in tournaments. My grand father has this huge trophy displayed on our cabinet and my dad followed then his footsteps on continuing his legacy. Currently, I stopped gambling but being exposed at an earl age where you see your family gambling had made me thinking if it was the 'normal thing' to do.

That is the quote from the link and my emphasis here is the fact she got into the habit after her dad and that shows that the family is a strong factor of socialization and indeed the number one of it all before schools or peer pressure that the kids go through outside the home.

We can also convinsively say that most kids learn most things or habit from home. Or, that they get the approval of what they have learnt, adopted from outside, in the family when the family condones it and refuses to scold or punish a behaviour that a child take to as non adult (because as adult, you have choice in your decision). For early gambling, I think it could lead to distruction if not controlled.

Imo it's more about how you could stop yourself from gambling because there's so many ways to get exposed on gambling and on top of that it's accessible with the help of online casinos. If you're just looking for a quick buck, agree to this. But have you noticed the elderly people playing cards? They're just having fun with it, though they will occasionally place bets, but it's only for a small amount of money to get an adrenaline rush. However, I believe that those who are young and want to make money while having fun should be surrounded by people or gamblers, as it is extremely difficult to have fun if you are playing alone and also earn money.

Nah, if you stuck to gambling, that's not curiosity anymore, that's your fault. Honestly, it's not a fault to be curious, it's a fault to stay knowing it's wrong to even after satisfying your curiosity. At that point, if your curiosity was to the extent where you're thinking what's the possibility of winning x amount in games, then curiosity wasn't at fault really, sooner or later, you'd end up gambling even if it wasn't at that point of time. I agree, guidance is super important. The problem is that there is an age in everyone´s life in which friends have a higher peer-pressure than parent´s advice, so the solution sometimes has to be as radical as changing the full environment in which you hang out. On top of that, I think is more difficult to become addicted if you play socially and just for fun with other people because at least you will not be left alone with your thoughts and, as some people may be a problem, others may actually be of help.

i guess a lot here have the same story as yours. at a young age, you will really get involve in gambling if people around you are in gambling. the most common game that we will see is this card game. as a kid, you will really get curious how things are working with them because some can sit for hours and hours just to satisfy their desires in gambling. so if you have kids at home, and you don't want them to try any gambling game yet, better start observing the routine of the adults, should not hold any card game or any type of gambling when they are around.
