There are many of them but in today's time, you will have a hard time dealing with them because most of them are good at the beginning but eventually, they're going to be passive and you're probably wrong with your assumptions based on your researches. Usually, even the new project that got by hype will always be on the mainstream media coz this project needs more exposure. Try to take a look at some projects like SOL, KUSAMA, ONE and many more.

There are always new projects, especially in cryptocurrency, a lot of innovation here especially we are are still early and still growing, as you can also for some already existed projects, they are still goal or more improvements and lot of problems to solve.
Just always remember, not all new projects are good. The best example is Bitcoin or Ethereum, look how old they are they are still on top. But I believe there are a lot of new projects that are quality too. Especially projects that got different goals besides other projects.

if a new project comes up? maybe it would be a little excessive if it was taken too seriously but indeed new projects always appear every day and maybe even every hour but not entirely that is a good thing and of course for new projects the effect will not be too big.
other than that it is true that 100 coins in CMC is the right thing that we have to look at because indeed this can be said to be a superior coin and I myself always use this method to see coins that have not been exposed to some media.

In the first place, roadmaps are built to be a good showoff for investors.

My criteria are if they will be active in development and marketing throughout the progress. Then after that, I will now follow them, understand if things are heading good, then the final phase is if that's worth putting money and risk.

There are lots of ongoing projects and these projects were totally underated. You can see ecoball project and this may become another potential project like matic and BSC.
Ecoball was working on the new layer solution like and it's almost the same like BSC and matic.
Nothing happen with major coins when there are lots of legits projects were still ongoing.

I do know them all of it seems like mostly of them have not yet launched on the exchange sites. You can take a look at the top 300 CMC and there are bunch of good enough coins on this range. You can find some if you want but i personally will prefer to pick the new project that will be launched through IEO and IDO. The only problem if it's very difficult to make sure if the project was a scam or not.

OP could divide his portfolio in two option: first stick with bitcoin & ethereum for long term purpose & binance coin could be in that list too and secondly go with any trend by not being into fomo and take advantage of other's fomo. For example, currently solana ecosystem is shilled by so many influencers that any new projects on solana ecosystem is pumping so hard which can be a good way to increase portfolio by investing affordable funds, not like go with everything. Than use those profits to do dca for option one, IMHO.

Projects with clear plans, an active development team, and marketing themselves without false promises that you will get rich are worth investing in but no one knows how much profit they can make.
Unfortunately, few of these projects have such specifications, so you must follow the news well and keep track of the activity times of the developers in the project.

To find the good projects that have not launched yet but still have a lot of potential is the biggest challenge in the crypto market. Now in retrospect probably everyone is thinking why did i not buy some Solana a few months ago when the price per Sol was below 1 $, but that's the problem, in retrospect everything seems so obvious but back then it wasn't, at least not for me. If you look at those completely hyped projects for example those play-to-earn games like start atlas then the price for them i already too high now to invest, at least for me, because all those private sale investors already made a x100 with their investment.
