I intend to purchase some BTCs/ETHs into my blockchain wallet but I'm still sceptical about which of the coins is better and won't fall below the water. I am asking this because I don't understand how the cryptocurrency market works yet.
BTC or ETH? I would appreciate your suggestions, thanks.

because I don't understand how the cryptocurrency market works yet.
If you do not understand how it works, maybe you shouldn't be investing just yet. Improving your knowledge about it should be your main focus right now. What you would be looking at is how they both work and the fundamentals behind them, this would tell you which is likely to stay above water. You can also use previous chart as a reference to know which has been more consistent in value overtime. Search on Bitcoin and altcoin books/resources (here on the forum) and look into them, to understand more on how it works.
Also, the most recommended software wallet to use on mobile or PC is electrum, and if you want to purchase higher amounts, look into hardware wallets.

The best suggestion to you would be to first understand what is a cryptocurrency and how it works? Please do not invest without knowing about Bitcoin or Ethereum. Since you are new to this forum it would be better if you can be active here and learn about them. There is a dedicated board for Bitcoin and on this board, you can talk about altcoins. Read a few articles about both Bitcoin and Ethereum by searching them on Google. Do not invest in something which you do not understand otherwise you will lose your capital.

Here's a tip: Before actually spending your money and making cryptocurrency investments, probably learn about what you're buying first. And no coin is safe from dropping down in price significantly. https://coindesk.com/learn

First, I agree with the previous opinions that you should inform yourself better before investing, otherwise you are playing roulette.
Between Bitcoin or Ethereum, I clearly choose Bitcoin, because it is decentralized and because it was not premined by 70%. If you study the difference between Bitcoin and what we call shitcoins you will see that although there are 11,753 cryptocurrencies, there are 11,752 that share many characteristics and one that is essentially different from the rest, which is Bitcoin.
I hope that someday you will come to understand the difference.

See if you are long term investor and don't have any plans to sold early then undoubtedly bitcoin best fits into your category even if you don't know how it works. But ETH is something different from bitcoin in many ways and you can have lessons about it as there are many technical terms of which you might not be familiar with. You can get btc at some discount at the current prices so best is to put your funds in bitcoin rather than going for any other altcoins. But you can do Dollar cost Averaging with your bitcoin investment which is scattering your investment over certain period of time rather than investing all your funds at one go as with this you can have more sats(small amount of bitcoin) accumulated with you but the suggestion is bitcoin which may match with above suggestions.

@OP, I suggest seriously taking what Upgrade00 said. if you don't understand how cryptocurrency and its market works, it would be for the best to read, research and learn before doing deciding to invest in it. Search on Bitcoin and altcoin books/resources (here on the forum) and look into them, to understand more on how it works.

I intend to purchase some BTCs/ETHs into my blockchain wallet ...
A Blockchain wallet? Make sure this isn't a Blockchain.com wallet which is prone to different issues upon purchasing crypto to their bank/credit card account. The web wallet isn't good for storing your crypto and I suggest a single wallet upon storing your asset for free or much better if you will choose a hardware wallet which is also supported altcoins. The rest of you're concern was stated above, if you don't know how this cryptocurrency works, don't hurry upon investing. You need to understand first the possible circumstances that waiting ahead. The word risk is in crypto, understand risk might help for a productive profit. If you'll understand, you'll see the difference.

Before buying cryptocurrency you must know it well. Suggestions from others may not always work for you. However, between these two coins, I must suggest Bitcoin. Because most of the time in the cryptocurrency market, Bitcoin has dominance. If Bitcoin falls, so will other coins.

I will have you my own opinion on the best cryptocurrencies to buy, the best suggestion is to out your 70% money on bitcoin while 30% on altcoins, altcoins are very volatile than bitcoin, bear market can result to more losses if you buy altcoins, it means altcoins are more risky but there is nothing bad to put 30% of your money on altcoins.
70% on bitcoin 30% on altcoins
Suggested altcoins are: ethereum and binance coin. But you can do your own research to find other better altcoins but know that some altcoins are shitcoins, do not let their low value entice you to buy them, if bought, the coins will do and your money will be lost.

Market is always volatile. Hence, none knows which coin will move in which direction. But yes, you can hopefully invest in either BTC or ETH. As of now, you can better go with Bitcoin and hold it for few years. A best coin even a newbie can invest in. So go with BTC and leave it to long term. Altcoins do follow Bitcoin's growth. So, if you are new here then, invest in BTC.

Best cryptocurrency to buy presently and always is Bitcoin, and you don't need to understand how crypto market works. Making monthly purchases of Bitcoin have proven to be one of the best strategies for investing in Bitcoin, or buying when price goes down. Now hold BTC four years if you can, and you will see it grow in value, but try to avoid buying on top and selling on bottom

For me now, blockchain projects and NFTs are the best bargain now. you need to study the flow of the market. smart contract projects like solana, avalanche, Fantum are the real deal and will always move high in price. gradually. many more will join. Also NFTs are kicking out the defi tokens and gradually, we will see more of NFTs GETTING THE better hands and investments. always do your research and remember to invest what you can loose.

Other users have already advised you to get at least the basic knowledge first before finally releasing money. And rightly so. What I intend to point out is that this is not just for you to finally decide whether you will purchase only Bitcoin or only ETH or both; this is actually to minimize the risk. You planning to purchase without understanding how the cryptocurrency market works means you will be exposed to the different predators in the market. The market is full of phishing attempts, fake sites and apps, scams, and so on. Studying the market means understanding how to buy, where to buy, what wallet to use, and so forth.

Right now market is very high and its not the best time to buy coins that are on there ATH. DYOR, before you make any decision. Its just my personal opinion.

In addition to all of the above, I do not recommend that you keep large amounts of money using blockchain.info wallet, there are many people who have reported a problem with it and the fee estimate is high. Buying Bitcoin or Ether is the least likely to lose compared to many altcoins, but this does not mean that it is a profitable investment. Overall, both are good, but Bitcoin is the best.

It's very easy to select one either ETH or BTC. But just make sure you will not regret it later in case of the dump. So before making any financial decisions you have to learn about the business where you are going to put your money. There are many technical things that you should know before buying Bitcoin or ETH, otherwise maybe after a few days, you will say Bitcoin is a scam.
However, I will prefer to buy Bitcoin. So first of all you need to know how Bitcoin works, how Bitcoin price works. It's quite important to choose the right wallet and secure it the right way before buying Bitcoin where you will store your assets. I will prefer a noncustodial wallet like Ledger Hardware wallet or Electrum. So please take time to learn more about Bitcoin, so you will not regret it later.

This is not true, it's either you're mixing up facts or not just sure of what you wrote. When comparing Bitcoin with other coins, it's risk is actually smaller than the rest, I mean it's not just one shitcoin or pump and dump coin that can depreciate into oblivion, if you truly understand the Bitcoin network, you'll understand that it's a coin that actually has a great use case and that will be sustainable for quite a very, very long time. And as for long term profits, it's definitely Bitcoin that one should be picking over eth or any other crypto for that matter, altcoins are generally short term projects cause many of them can only give ROI for the meantime and once they dump you can forget about the project; but Bitcoin is obviously different, it may not actually give short term profit cause it doesn't just 'pump', but if you're patient to stay in the network, long term profit is more or less certain.

BTC or ETH? I would appreciate your suggestions, thanks.
Bitcoin and Etehreum both are best for the long run. You can buy both of them. Ethereum is very undervalued right now, Most people believe Ethereum will be hit a new all-time high price within a short time. My target is $8k to $10k and I believe it will happen within one 1year. There is no doubt that bitcoin is the best coin for long-term investment. You choose both good coins. Don't hold all of your coins in only one wallet. Try to use some other wallet also, I suggest you use MEW for Ethereum(ERC20) coin.

Don't invest in any other coins until you own 1 Bitcoin! Or something like that. Do you know who said that? Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum. That should give you some perspective about how to go about it.
There is a dedicated board for Bitcoin and on this board, you can talk about altcoins. Your hyperlink is messed up. What were you trying to point to? Also, it doesn't make sense saying that " there is a dedicated board for bitcoin where you can talk about altcoins". You can setup DCA bot for it, It will be nice to buy small amount regularly. Why would you rely on a bot to do the trading for you? A bot shouldn't have such permissions if you ask me. You can't be certain it won't malfunction and mess up what you were trying to acquire. Depends on you, if you like high risk, choose a bigger coin, such as Bitcoin. That makes no sense. If you want to lower your risk, you buy bitcoin. If you want long term profit, choose ETH. Look at Ethereum graphs, they all have positive values in long term. And Bitcoin doesn't have a positive long-term return? How much was it worth when it first got listed on exchanges? How much was it worth 5 years ago? How about 2019/2020?

Dude first of all, nothing is guaranteed here. All of the cryptocurrencies especially Bitcoin and Ethereum are subject to volatility. Both of them are great long term coins. If I were you, don't just put all of your eggs in one basket. learn to diversify. Maybe put some of your amount on BTC, and then some of ETH, etc.

It is difficult to easily understand how the crypto market actually works. It takes a lot of experience to understand that. Bitcoin is the number one crypto in the world and its price is much lower now. So I would advise you to hold & buy Bitcoin.

You already see what happens with bitcoin and ethereum but if you want to invest in crypto, I suggest you buy bitcoin because it will increase higher in the future. Bitcoin and ethereum can drop many times, but altcoin can drop deeper than bitcoin and will be hard to increase if the bitcoin price does not increase. Both bitcoin and ethereum will have a risk, but there is nothing to worry about as long as you can manage the risk. Ethereum can be a short-term investment while bitcoin can be a long-term investment so that will depend on you which coin you will buy later.

I wouldn't use the term "investment" for altcoins because they are horrible as investment since they don't really have any real potential for rise and almost all of them are in a bubble. Altcoins are mainly good for short term trading, specially when they are being pumped and dumped but obviously pump and dump is a very risky thing to get involve in (it is a form of market manipulation and very unpredictable).

I agree to the previous posts that you shouldn't invest to it if you don't understand it fully (for now). But if we're talking about trades here interms of potential profit, I believe both BTC and ETH has very high posibility that you'll profit if you invested into it for a long term one. Between the two, I trust the bitcoin more because of it being decentralized and secured, plus that it wasn't largely premined and has only 21million total supply compared to ETH.

Market is unpredictable man. Any coin go can down to the earth at any time or go up to the sky at any moment. So, be open to the markets irrespective of moving to any coin. Learn more about crypto market. Both coins are really the best coins. However, you can very well choose Bitcoin to invest. Kindly go for a long term investment rather than day trade as long as you are familiar with day trading.

It is not easy to predict cryptocurrency because sometimes you will predict coin and it will fail no matter how you go for research about it but always try to understand the cryptocurrency market first but for now I will suggest btc or Ethereum because this are the only coins that are pumping and doesn't dump anywho presently. Their are others altcoins but I don't believe on them too much. Always try to go for more research because nobody is perfect, I just make a suggestion but not too sure about the coins because market is not stable nowadays

This is an Bitcointalk forum, so I think many people here would agree with you. There is nothing better in the tech world than bitcoin so far. Bitcoin is far superior than other p2p systems because it actually respects freedom. We are blessed to have the freedom to move our money anywhere in the world.

It is indeed Bitcoin! Bitcoin’s price has skyrocketed as it’s become a household name. Five years ago, you could buy a Bitcoin for about $500. As of Oct. 29, 2021, a single Bitcoin’s price was over $62,000. That’s the growth of about 12,300%.

I think that is the main reason on why you have no idea what cryptocurrency to invest on. Before you dump your money into an investment, it is definitely essential that you should have done your homework first. Asking someone and relying on their expert advice/opinion SOLELY can potentially be dangerous, especially if you mainly based your decisions from them. I personally want to invest into BTC given its track record on its price history. I usually invest for long-term and HODL until its price reached a certain point where I am comfortable withdrawing them.

Both currencies are okay to me. In fact, they are not just the top but they are the once that have stand out the test of time and are still doing great in the market. Don't get so scared of a drop, instead, study the market, the tricks behind crypto projects and anticipate for a buying opportunity on either coins though, I personally prefer bitcoin to Ethereum. So, anticipate a bear market for a buying opportunity, buy and hodl the coins, knowing that it would eventually return to bull market and you see the coin appreciating.
