Hi guys name is ed, I'm new to crypto mining I need info about building rigs for long life purpose, is it safe to build rigs with closed cases or open cases? I know heat are GPUs worst enemies but I'm talking about closed cases made for mining with many fans on them, the reason why I ask is I'm not sure that  exposure to dusts is safe for Motherboards and GPU, what am I missing ?

All my rigs are exposed, I have to cool them to maximize their lives and I don't have money to invest on closed cases with coolers, to me it doesn't matter as you can get dust blowers to dust of dirts every week, dirt isn't mobo friendly dusting them off often is healthy

The cheapest option is an open case.
I have a production cost of 5 dollars, now it can be 10.
A closed case starts at $ 50 without fans.
The choice of corus is very dependent on the mining room.
If it's a garage or a shed, then it's probably cheaper to choose an open case.
Dust is harmful to technology, but not as much as they say.
The most important thing is that the dust does not get into the connectors and contacts.
Therefore, I only clean with a brush.

Unambiguously open case.
The room where the rigs are located matters. Ideally, tiled floors and walls so that there is no place for dust to accumulate.
No extra boxes or other junk.
It is also important to remove heat from the room, and the inflow of fresh air, you need to calculate the optimal parameters of the fans.

That's not true, in my country dusts finds their way into any room easily even if you don't open windows, you will be surprised the next day how dust are already everywhere in your home, in flow of air comes with dusts they are so thinner that you won't see them until they settled

Hey my name is Phil.

closed cases fitting 12 cards work
closed cases fitting 8 cards work.
closed standard atx cases fitting two cards work.

Open cases with risers work
open cases with slots only work.

basically it all depends on your needs and your room.

I have two 12 card cases sealed that cost me 1150 each costly yes but they fit a specific need.
In fact  am getting two more of them tonight.

I have a mobo on a wooden board with nylon spacers cost five or six bucks. it also fits a good spot and works there.

yes you can build mining rigs with closed case, but the dust will be same as open case, the fan needed for closed case is alot, and yeah you need buy chinese motherboard for non riser board and thoses high rpm fan, will collectiong dust  same as no fan on open case, while closed case you can stack it with frame, server like mining

Yes this is the max you can put in a closed standard computer case. I tried to get 4 or even 3 GPUs to sit in a regular case but it was almost impossible to keep the heat down. The biggest issue is that the GPU in the middle would always run hot and with the lack of space to mount fans, it was hard to remove the heat in certain areas.

Even having 2 GPUs sometimes is problematic because the GPU behind the main GPU will always run hot and you might have to turn up the fan speed on that one or underclock it more to prevent it from overheating. I have no idea how some gamers get away with doing triple SLI in a computer case. I had all those intake and exhaust fans, even at max speed it would still have poor circulation and overheat.

I vote for the open air case,it has better management, the GPU-s are somewhat more distant to each other than they are in a closed case which make room for better cooling. The dust is the same as I see it when I open my closed PC case to clean it I see the same level of dust as I have on my mining rigs that are mining all the time.So based on this I don't know what the advantage of closed rigs really is.

most new miners do not need it

Thanks Phil , is it a good investment for a newbie to invest money on such costly cases? 1150$ for just a case seem like a waste of money for someone that's just starting up, we both know what type of GPU I can get with 1150$ to max up my hashrate, don't you think?

I prefer open case for mining because

1. They are more affordable, I bought two for 30$ in China and I use 6x GPUs each on two cases.

2. They are easier to cool than close cases, by just changing location e.g from a room to a more opened space you will see decrease in temp faster

3. Better spacing between GPUs, most close cases I've seen have little space in them, your GPUs are going to be too closer to eachother

I installed my first video cards on top of the PC case. The main thing is to install the insulation and the 3 video cards on top are conveniently positioned.
Then I decided that it was better to use an open case.
In my case, I used 1 video card for games, while others mined cryptocurrency.

You can take a look at @Diviproject, a PoS blockchain with the motto "Crypto Made Easy", It has great potential, It stands out for its profitability and Ease in its #Masternode and #Staking, in addition to having a large Community taking the Work seriously of adoption.

Open rack cases are good for mobility and easier to expand imho. I believe enclosures are better for managing your temperatures.

I prefer open case for mining because they gets enough air flow more than closed cases, the only thing that makes closed cases works is the fans that send out the heats from the case, also open cases are more cheaper than closed cases, pretty good for newbies like you

Greetings Ed, I understand your concern, that is why I suggest you inquire about PoS, which do not require high energy consumption or high technologies, I even consider that these will displace PoW due to its scalability and higher performance. When you have the time, take a look at Divi from www.diviproject.org where you can install a really easy one-click masternode to setup or staking for 20% performance. To me it has worked.
Did you just say masternode? Masternode requires more money to run than mining PoW algorithm coins mate, OP must buy a certain amount of that DIVI coin or token to start earning, staking and masternode aren't the same thing, anyone on here thinks same?

If by "rig" you really mean a mining rig then yes open case is a given because you will be using risers. Whether you get fancy cases
or just a rack to mount the GPUs is up to you.

But, if you mean a PC with a couple of GPUs connected directly to the motherboard, again it's yes to open case. You need good
airflow because the GPUs will heat up everything around them.

Whether you have cooling issues will depend on the ambient temperature and airflow in your mining environment.
If you have AC that increases your costs. If it gets too hot you may need a box fan blowing air through the "open"
case.

this case can fit 5 motherboards, 5 power supplies and at least 15 GPUs  Wink

- gpu spaces are easily adjustable

- easy access for troubleshooting

- high speed PWM fans can easily fit/added in front and behind GPUs to supplement cooling if needed.

- you can remove and plug back a GPU fan in real time (no turning off rig for cleaning/oiling) - experts only LOL  Grin
