Any GPUs going cheap because they are unprofitable electricity wise but will run a high hashrate (regardless of watts)?

You might want to first define what is cheap according to what price range you expect.

Otherwise, everything that seems to mine some coins has got their prices inflated at the moment regardless of how much power it consumes (Yes, there's also someone else out there, counting on the very cheap or free electricity available to them to mine coins  Cheesy )

Take a lot at this, but prices are not included - https://whattomine.com/gpus

You can always buy the old Tahiti GPUs for cheap. The Tahiti GPUs are the AMD Radeon 7950, 7970, 280X. You can also try and get the Hawaii which is the R9 290 however it’s a popular card with gamers and might not be cheap.

Anyways. With the Tahiti you can mine ETC until the DAG is greater than 3GB. It hashes at around 22Mhs or so. So not the fastest but pretty decent. Only issue is they are power hogs. No matter how much you undervolt, it will eat 200 watts.

There are also the Pitcairn, which is the r9 270X however those are usually max 2gb.

Since electricity is not a problem for you,at least this is what I understand from your writing, one of the cheapest card which does good amount of Mhsh is the R9 390 8GB but it consumes really a lot of energy so it is not energy efficient, over 250 watt or 250 watt I don't remember correctly. The problem is that they are not easily available nowadays.

You will be lucky to find any person willing to give you free money as that is the question your asking. 10 months is the rough idea of ROI if you buy new and bear in mind you get warranty and can sell the GPU on later whilst still in warranty so you cover your own liability if things go wrong. If you buy second hand then no manufacturer warranty so its a risky affair buying second hand fragged GPU's that may konk on you in a few weeks. Try not to FOMO your way to the gutter and think long term, you get out what you put in....

Is there a reason why you need a high hashrate gpu if you're looking to build egpu? AFAIK that kind of thing are mainly used for gaming, or doing some design/editing work. Might as well buy the latest card if that's what you're looking for.

r9 290 is still popular today?? wow!.

it was my first gpu mining card (reference), the most powerful card (generational leap) i owned at that time.

nostalgia: i was starting to mine mooncoin when the card started screaming and getting loud bit by bit, sounding like a rocket-ship going to the moon..and moon is a very popular term in crypto space at that time until now  Cheesy

P.S. for a short while i really look around the room and think, do mining pools website play that sound? LOL

feels like a true spaceship launch with my r9 290 Cheesy

This is very old junk and very unstable.
If you buy it at a very low price, then it is possible to try, but every second video card will at least have problems.
Even in China, they got rid of such junk.
I come across sometimes advertisements for the sale of such video cards, but these cunning sellers want to sell old junk to novice miners at high prices.

I have a laptop 3070 running at about 46 MH/S @ around 80-85 watts..
I looked into tuning it a bit/optimizing, I read it can do 60, but I don’t want to torture it fully or screw it up because I really don’t know what I’m doing..

Getting about 3.6 KH/S XMR on the CPU at the same time but it’s only running at like 75-80% for some reason..
Stock settings no overclocking anything..

It only makes like $3 a day though so I’m debating with myself if it’s even worth running..

I thought about adding a little something else to it too, like an egpu..

The operating time of your laptop depends on the quality of the cooling system. laptop has a single cooling system for the video card and processor, and the lower the temperature, the longer the laptop will work. I consider mining on the processor superfluous. But only the purchase price and the warranty period of the laptop are important.

They are old GPUs but those generations are well built compared to most newer GPUs. The biggest issue would be maybe the fans fail pretty soon. However most of those old GPUs are pretty robust and he won’t get much issues.

Yeah they are old but he said “cheap” there is really nothing else out there which isn’t a rip off at the moment. Something like a Fiji, fury, Nano, r9 390 are overpriced. Check the eBay prices on those. The Tahiti’s you can still get at a decent price these days.

If you want to mine, you can buy an old video card that can pay off in 6-7 months. Or you can buy a new graphics card that will have a 3 year warranty and an estimated return on investment of 11-14 months.
Newbies don't understand this.
You can buy old junk if the estimated return on investment is 3-4 months. But for this price, I'm sure 90 percent of the graphics cards will have big problems.

the trick is you have the electrical capacity to run them all, old and new. as you reach the electrical limit you discard the less efficient (old) and replace them with the more efficient (new).

then you find another site and run the old there while buying what you can get (old and new) and max the electrical capacity.

A friend of mine bought old video cards. Electricity is free, but the mining farm is located 50 kilometers from the house. 5 days a week he had to travel 100 kilometers to fix problems with farms - this is a big loss. I don't have video cards at home either, so in case of problems I need to travel 50 kilometers both ways. Therefore, I do not like old equipment.

*repeat the process*
A friend of mine bought old video cards. Electricity is free, but the mining farm is located 50 kilometers from the house. 5 days a week he had to travel 100 kilometers to fix problems with farms - this is a big loss. I don't have video cards at home either, so in case of problems I need to travel 50 kilometers both ways. Therefore, I do not like old equipment.

yeah, old equipment tends to be a bit more problematic (degraded thermal pads, fans etc.)...only do it if it is a close proximity from home farm to farm A to farm B. And if you are an expert in "preventive" maintenance.

the old is a supplementary if there is still "electrical space" and you haven't acquired the "new" latest and greatest cutting edge mining cards yet. profit is still profit.
