Now I know everyone here loves to hate BitPay, but at least they are promoting BTC and crypto use.
We all sit around here and talk about BTC,and help others with BTC and all that good stuff.

For all the other crap they do, BitPay is at least out there getting crypto into places for people to use it.

but at least they are promoting BTC and crypto use.
But that doesn't change the fact that they're doing it in the wrong way [e.g. KYC for customers (not sure if it still involves certain transactions or it's now mandatory for all of them].
- Few other stuff [it's slightly outdated (e.g. SegWit part)].

For all the other crap they do, BitPay is at least out there getting crypto into places for people to use it.
You have a point, but the moment customers see them as the only BTCitcoin processor, most of them [assuming that they're not a newcomer] would probably just switch to other options or platforms instead.

I don't want to belittle this partnership, because it's something good for bitcoin, but it seems to me that it's much better for bitPay, they're doing something that's more beneficial for them, it seems to me they didn't do it thinking about promoting bitcoin, that's just another business partnership where BitPay will make profits

We have to accept the fact that they don't really have the choice. They abide by the laws, otherwise, they wouldn't be able to run their business.
It's like the exchange platforms, why not boycott them?
If they had the choice, they probably wouldn't force people with the KYC/AML bullshit. It represents time, money, and resources saved.

AS for the news, it allows Wix's users to have an option to pay with cryptocurrency on their e-commerce website. The thing is, almost nobody uses Wix nowadays. Ok, I exaggerate a bit but It's a long time since I've to see e-commerce powered by Wix

I don't think. People don't give a fuck. All they want is to get what they want to buy

For all the other crap they do, BitPay is at least out there getting crypto into places for people to use it.
And in the process, turning bitcoin more and more in to fiat, inserting themselves as an unnecessary third party in to your transactions, invading your privacy, collecting all your information, tracking your bitcoin's history, and declining your payment or purchase if they want to. I'd rather not be able to spend bitcoin somewhere than spend it under these terms, and indeed, I have told more than a few companies that they have lost my business by using BitPay.

that's just another business partnership where BitPay will make profits
Exactly this. BitPay are thoroughly anti-bitcoin and anti-user. All they care about is their profits.

We have to accept the fact that they don't really have the choice. They abide by the laws, otherwise, they wouldn't be able to run their business.
And yet, there are hundreds of other companies using other payment processors such as BTCPay and not requiring ridiculously invasive KYC for all their customers who are continuing to operate just fine. Using BitPay is a choice, and it is a choice which will lose you business.

It's like the exchange platforms, why not boycott them?
I do. Tongue

Exactly, the sooner people realize that if the business is not doing it themselves and dealing with a 3rd party, be in BitPay, Coinbase Commerce, they have to play by the same rules as anyone else who moves money for someone else.

AS for the news, it allows Wix's users to have an option to pay with cryptocurrency on their e-commerce website. The thing is, almost nobody uses Wix nowadays. Ok, I exaggerate a bit but It's a long time since I've to see e-commerce powered by Wix

They did over $1 Billion in revenue last year so they are not small.

After you told them they would not get your business, did you offer the help them take BTC as payment and then help get it converted to fiat so they could pay their rent & employees & other vendors? Although we are getting close to the point where a PERSON can live on BTC / crypto for a business with employees and other bills it's much more difficult. People can also, in general, accept the fact that by using crypto we are paying more for things and loosing the benefits of cash / credit cards. Many businesses would not want to or have the ability to.

I build setups for people to take BTC for their websites all the time. Some people like to do it that way. Others just want another form of getting paid.

Wix merchants can start accepting crypto payments today by just clicking BitPay in their dashboard settings and then creating an account with BitPay. No integration is required and the BitPay processing fee is only 1%.
Too bad there's no information whether customer also interact with bitpay directly.
They do not, it's just another option on the accept payment screen from what I saw. You have to fill out some information but I don't know if it goes user -> Wix -> BitPay or just user -> Wix or user -> BitPay

edit: I don't have a wix account that accepts payments but one of my clients does where I saw the demo and then found the link that I posted, I am not going to mess around with their payment back end to find out more.

Surely you meant they used to boost Bitcoin usage, but now annoy Bitcoin user (at least for user who have experience with better service or old bitpay).
No, they always sucked. Now they just suck more publicly.

-Dave

Yes. In my template "I'm not using you because of BitPay email", I include links to why I refuse to use BitPay (https://debitpay.directory/anti-bitcoin/) and to alternative solutions (https://github.com/alexk111/awesome-bitcoin-payment-processors). In my experience, the small independent vendors or merchants, in which the merchant themselves is actually reading the email at least show interest and are often unaware about why BitPay is such a terrible choice. However, the larger companies where you are talking to someone in customer support just send back a template "We are sorry we have lost your business" or similar email.

Started another post here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5366008.new#new to discuss BitPay in general and other options.
Please keep post / discussion here about the Wix partnership stuff.

Not to mention the other post will probably get more eyeballs on it since a lot of people do not look at the Press section. Or even know it exists.
