I have a Radeon RX 580 8GB card in my gaming PC which I've been using to mine bitcoin over the last 2 months or so with Nicehash because it seemed to be the easiest to understand. It's been used for light gaming over 2 years and runs fine. During the first week or so of mining bitcoin it was making about 0.027mBTC per day, but ever since has made around 0.016mBTC per day. Also, I've seen online these things are supposed to reach speeds like 25 MH/s, but mine says its running at about 6.8 MH/s. I'm really just confused why it seems like it's making substantially less than its supposed to, I'm looking to buy another of these but it doesn't seem worth it as it is. I've read online these cards have a return of investment time of 200-300 days but at the current rate its making me it's more like 600 days. What are the possible explanations for this massive decrease in performance? It's not dusty and there's more than enough power for my pc. Any help appreciated
One explanation is that Nicehash autoswitches to the most profitable coins and for example RVN has lower hash rate than ETH.Also the difficulty of the network increases or decreases together with the Nicehash market place as things are not always the same,if you card is making about 1.20-1.63 per day I don't see anything wrong with that.To make sure you can try a standalone miner that mines Ethereum since your card can and it should do about 32 Mhsh and not only 25 Mhsh if you put 1200 Core Clock and 2150-2200 Memory Clock.
So first use MSI Afterburner and set when mining Core Clock 1200 and Memory Clock 2150-2200
Second check what algorithm you are actually mining,Nicehash shows the name of the algorithm in its screen.
Third and last, try the standalone miner mining Ethereum and if it still shows 6.8 Mhsh there, your card has a few issues which we will check after you try these first and let us know.
