But what if your instincts is saying the underdog has no chance to beat the favorite?
Because if you are closely following those individuals involved, you will know their capability in that particular sport.
So for me, this is a case to case basis. Every game or match is different and you can only decide this factor if you know the sports and the athletes well.
But if not, just take your chance betting your $10. Anyway, if you feel you can afford that to lose, it is not big deal whatever the results is.

Sports betting is definitely a case to case basis depend on how you assess a player or fighter on your own. Everyone has a right to choose and make their own bets without following the crowd provided that you know how to look for a better fighter which you would bet on. A $10 amount of bets will definitely give a x2 or x3 of return betting on underdog provided that the underdog player or fighter has a potential that you see on him. But in my case I used to follow the crowd favourites, I want assurance.

But you will never get any assurance when you bet, otherwise it's not a true bet anymore, it's a rigged one. People are betting against each other because there is always a part of uncertainty, if the outcome is certain no one will be ready to pay anything for that. When you bet you are just buying a risk, higher risk giving higher ROI.

I'm not sure if this had been asked before. This is just an example of some odds that I saw recently Fighter A (1.30) vs Fighter B (3.65). With this obviously, Fighter A is the people's champ and Fighter B is the underdog.

Regardless of who is bigger and undefeated record, let's say you have no idea who these fighters are because the names can't even be read like Ulshrkubyki vs Ykwehgyfvbh. If you only have $10 left in your sports betting account, would you go for the champ which you can only earn $3, or go for the underdog which if he got lucky can triple your money?
If I was in that situation I will probably take the underdog, it is widely known that casinos give worst odds to the favorites and the odds given to the underdog are not as bad as I have seen way worst than that, so if I was in a gambling mood and I wanted to use my last 10 dollars in a boxing fight to me it makes the most sense to go for the fighter with the lowest probabilities of winning the fight.

It will almost certainly rely on each fighter's statistics.

Of course, if Fighter B has the statistical capacity to battle and endure Fighter A, I'll bet $10 on B and hope for an additional $20.65 if he wins. If Fighter B fails to qualify or has a large disparity with Fighter A, I'll wager on A and settle for the $3. I believe that being practical is still the best option, as $10 is still a significant sum of money for some people.

Always check the player's history and stats.

I hope you didn't lose too much money on this bet. I bet on India too, because India is a big favorite of this T20 World Cup and a very interesting promotion is currently running on Stake : if your selection scores 180+ runs, you will be paid out as a winner even if it loses. Unfortunately India didn't score 180 runs and loses the game while being favorite @1.45 on Stake.

I saw India at 1.3 odds when I placed a bet on India. I did not lose big in money, but what I lost big was my trust that I had on India because of that friend. He was so sure that India will only win, I couldn't stop myself to place a bet and the results were shocking.

So sorry about your loss. Don't feel too bad about it though. Things like this happens regardless of whether or not the team is a favourite. I remember one time I placed a bet on a favorite at 1.05 odds. They lost so I lost money since I used a big amount for it. smaller odds, more staked amount. Anyway, I learnt my lesson and that's the fact that no favorite team will always win even if the odds for them are priced as low as 1.01.

Personally, I'm still thinking India was unlikely to lose, and it was just a bad day for them. Then I will place a bet on India at its next game.
For the match against Pakistan, I got a small surprise, I forgot I had placed a bet on Pakistan on another sportsbook, then I'm finally in profit for this game.

Most of the time, those who are concluding the game even it's not been done are the one who carelessly betting. We can't accurately say that because the team or player are superior to their opponent means that they are surely going to win, it won't be called as gambling if there's no risk of.

The only you can do now is to move forward and try to research deeper, if it's possible not to listen to anyone but do your homework and analyze the game that you are interested in betting.

This depends on two factors for me.

1. I would check the history of those fighters and see if the fighter B has a chance or not. If he does not have any chance then I would put my money on fighter A.
But if the fighter B does have some chances of winning then I would put money of fighter B.

2. If the left over money i.e., $10 is something that I can afford to lose then I would risk it on the fighter B and otherwise fighter A.

1. Chance? It was already decided on the odds given to both fighters. And as far as how OP constructs the statement, it's look there's no plan for any research. Just a quick decision whether what fight will be chosen on that amount. And for a $10 bet, I think it's not necessary to go thru a deep analysis unless OP is eyeing to continue the journey from $10 capital.

2. Yes, it's just a leftover since it was left on the account. Place a bet on the underdog and wait for the result. The unexpected result always happened in fighting sports e.g boxing, MMA, etc.

Don't be confused.

Bet that amount on the underdog in that situation and hope luck will come to you. Not deserve to fully become serious on $10 bet as everyone should afford to lose that amount.

In case that's your last money and let's say you will now be dead after losing it then bet seriously not on that match but for sports you have knowledge. You can hunt some high odds there and your knowledge of those sports will help you.

It wont be called betting if there would be no choices at all and there wouldn't be any bookmakers or business like this if they wouldn't really be setting out those odds for gamblers to choose on or from.

Its just understandable that they would set out lower odds to those who are favorite and bigger ones on underdogs. Deciding on which one to bet? Your choice.

This is where betting makes interesting and thrilling because upsets could really happen but of course you would really be needing too analyze it carefully about probabilities.

You can hunt some high odds there and your knowledge of those sports will help you.

yes, if you are talking about $10, then don't make yourself too stressed on how to use this amount for betting. but if this amount matters to you, then bet on the sports that you know you have high chance to win, even at small odds. at least you know you can get back your money even with very little profit as compared to very slim chance of getting it back (if that's the last money you have).
but if you just want fun and possibly high return of your money, then take a risk betting underdog. there are several upsets happening anyway

This is where betting makes interesting and thrilling because upsets could really happen but of course you would really be needing too analyze it carefully about probabilities.

No need for any analysis or research. It's not thrilling anymore if you bet your $10 on a low odds (1.3) because surely if we will analyze the match beforehand, it will be favored to the one that got the low odds.

Make it simple and Op should just bet on odds of 3.65. It's more exciting to wait for the result. Even it loses, it's not that painful to lose $10. And if won, a good prize in return.

Such bets exist - arbitrage, another thing is that they are quite rare and with a small percentage of profit. As for the greater profit from bets with high risk, this is an illusion - bookmakers set the odds in such a way that, if we consider a long distance, the percentage of loss of the deposit will be the same when placing a bet with any odds.

Very easy.

It's not about the profit you could make but the profit you could have. The champ's odd might be smaller than the the challenger but the chances of winning is much higher than the losing chances so obviously people who wants to play it safe would go for the champ. There's no point on betting to the underdog especially if you have no more money remaining.

Your $10 could be a $100 if you're gonna be patient and smart by betting to the superior fighter.

Always go with the boxer that you think will win regardless of the betting odds.

If your basis is to choose whether you will bet on the favorites or underdog, that's what you called blindly betting because you didn't analyze, instead, you are gambling without a basis to determine which team has a good chance to win.

of course you will think that the favorites have a higher chance to win, but that's how the public sees, and they are not right all the time, the reality is they are wrong most of the time.

Well, if it's only $10 I'd risk it on the underdog but betting with a huge amount of money I'd rather be more picky on who to bet and that probably on the champ. This is a very subjective question since every gamblers are unique, there are those risk-takers and those who are into the less risks kind of gambling.

Exactly.

It's definitely gonna depends on what you're after. If you care about the remaining $10 you have, you're gonna bet it on the champ because it's a wise decision then you could play risky after you won using your profits. But I gotta say playing using a small amount is a waste of opportunity in making huge profits, but if you didn't have a choice then you could play slowly and patiently.

I can correlate this with a recent cricket match that is played b/w India and Pakistan on 24 Oct 2021 at DUBAI (ICC T20 Worldcup). India was hot favorite or you can say people champs while Pakistan was underdog. The odds are 1.4 for India and 2.8 for Pakistan.
In the match, Pakistan completely outclassed India and beat them very easily. Those who bet on Pakistan have a party that night. The point is you have to understand the situation that who is a strong candidate for winning.

Never ever try to find connection between odds and people's favorite on unknown matches. As an experiment, I have done the following at past: Bet on two very unknown soccer team that had an odd of x10. Very strangely, two of them greened my ticket but 3rd one failed and the score on 3rd one was 2-1 against my team. If the 3rd one would succeed, I was winning $1000 via $1.
But again, there are moments where teams are unbeatable and undergo doesn't work. For example, some years ago Real Madrid didn't lose a single match in La League, the result was always win or draw and you know, the odds on Real Madrid are almost always low because of how great this team is and how good their performance is.

Go bet on underdog if it does have that possibility of winning but if not then go with the favorites even though it is likely to win but not an assurance that it will really be or a sure win thats why some people do get wrekt when they do go all in with the favorites even though the
odds are way too low. There are people who do still dive in with less 1.1 odds which i dont see for it to be worth.Ill do always go with
above 1.5x or something and below than that then i do simply skip out.
