Can anyone from the community explain to me this Ebay "Virtual currency policy". It is preventing me from selling.

Readable here: https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/virtual-currency-policy?id=5044&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&campid=5337487966&customid=&toolid=10001

If you have successfully sold on ebay, can you let me know how to do it properly.

Also, why do you think ebay would ban the sale of funded crypto items? Could this be a form of suppression in the market?

You cant sell funded coins anymore because of the 2013 law. However that law severely out of date and eventually will be thrown out. Back then they were trying to get rid of BTC all together. didnt want people making their own physical currency. but now everyone is making paper wallets and physical is more like art than a form of currency. Its kind of like selling a 24caret gold phone case. The value is locked inside. On ebay you need to not use words like funded. word it like a collectable. Eventually this law will be overturned

I consider it a nonsense law that is preventing the growth of this market. Curtailing the ability for people to properly sell their physicals for real market value.
It might be time to leave ebay for me, this policy along with other actions ebay has taken recently may be the last straw. The ridiculous fees, centralized nature, and lack of customer support make ebay a dinosaur in a market that has grown past the need for a centralized platform.

We dont even need ebay anymore, its just people who want physicals dont know how to use crypto...

I would never sell funded items on eBay (or any digital items for that matter). eBay usually favors the buyer. They can claim item not as described and it's usually an instant refund. Good luck trying to get eBay support to follow a Bitcoin transaction to prove the buyer moved the funds from the funded item.

I personally have never been refunded for a sale on ebay. It would definitely bother me if someone attempted to keep my item and demand ebay for a refund.

In a world of decentralization and digital currency, we are still using a dinosaur like ebay.

Its time to search for alternatives IMO.

No loaded or funded wallets are allowed. Depending on your category and title keywords it might be possible to navigate around this but it won't get as much visibility. I still see funded coins on there  occasionally.

If you're selling something funded I may be interested.

I just bought a funded coin last week that wasn't removed, but mine get removed.

I agree with mr hodl, this forum may be the only outlet.

From what I have heard there were multiple sellers/buyers scammed selling loaded items, so they adopted the policy of unloaded/peeled/DIY items only. This policy was actually the same dating back years, but they recently became more strict about allowing loaded/funded items in 3rd quarter of 2021. At times, you may get lucky buying/selling for a new listing, but it won't last long and will be taken down. Most listings for loaded items are immediately removed now.

More and more loaded coins are appearing on Scacre.city. You can also check greatcollections site.

4k.com has also recently appeared, although that is more of a fractionalization type ownership.

and of course there is still the forum here Smiley

Ebay is great for new physical buyers. Ive been buying and selling there for years. you can see a lot of different coins and you dont have to pay with BTC. For this luxury you pay a premium. A coin that sells for $100 here will sell for $200 on ebay. I do think its an important website for the growth of our industry. If someone sees a Lealana somewhere their going to go to ebay first to look. I didnt find this Forum till years after I was buying. Even after I found it I was apprehensive to spend my BTC here. I hope that law gets changed, write your congressman. Watch the value of your coins skyrocket once it gets overturned.

I sell things on Ebay from time to time that are common and less desirable to buyers on the forum. I Love Ebay for that and that Ebay is driving some interest to the hobby. I Hate Ebay for the unintelligent system that flags items as crypto currency items prohibited from sale. Wallet, Funded, Crypto Currency, and Bitcoin seem to be words that get flagged. However, I have had items with all these words get approved at the same time others without them gets blocked. It's as clear as mud. This is a pain in the ass when you sell peeled coins trying to figure out how to make sure they will show up to buyers but not hit the Ebay filter.

My advice is to keep changing your wording and eventually, no matter what the item is, it will get cleared and go onto the marketplace. Sometimes you have to back out of the draft and start over again and then it will work.

Steeley

Beware of scammers. I will never discuss the sale of Collectibles on Telegram or any other messaging client outside the forum.

eBay has it's uses, but personally my policy when it comes to eBay is to never sell anything there that I would be upset if it disappeared.  They've gotten much better recently when it comes to chargebacks, but I still don't trust them.  Amazon has a much friendlier seller environment.  I never hesitate to buy things off of eBay, mostly because I know they almost always side with buyers, I've heard plenty of horror stories about sellers though.  Some of those con artists really go to lengths that no sane person would expect in order to win cases with their dispute department.  So I'd be less worried about their vrc policy and more concerned with their refund policy.

I recently asked the same question here ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5248467.msg54431155#msg54431155 )  and didn’t get a lot of info so I’m glad this was brought up again. As some have stated, eBay almost always favors the buyer in disputes, so you’re taking a big risk selling on there. At minimum require the buyers to meet a certain level of qualifiers.. “must have 25 positive feedback, must have been a member over 1 year, etc” for example.

Did all this change like a few days ago or something? I remember not so long ago you could even buy straight bitcoin under the "Miners" section - Stuff like: "0.001" sent straight to your wallet" etc etc ....

I have never sold any loaded items on ebay, but have sold plenty of other crypto-related stuff with no real hassles other than a package gone missing once or twice, which in these days of USPS's shit-service is not so uncommon 🤷‍♂️

This goes with selling hardware on there too.  Sold a GPU sealed BNIB on eBay one time and 5 months later saying they received it broken.  Got charged back and seller return me a card with dust all over obviously mined the hell out of it first.  Win win for buyer.  Even if they don't win the case they have probably roi'd anyway.

As far as coins yep PayPal suspended my account cause I was selling satoris on ebay, trying to say I was acting as a money transmitter lol. Silliness

Silliness

My ebay account is on it's last warning, im going to have to avoid anything remotely close to crypto for a while moving forwards.

Mine was back awhile ago when PayPal refused to accept crypto will eventually dominate them in due time.  Now that they are on board at least in the slightest way I'm sure it will be a little more lenient.  I had a series of funny emails with them trying to tell me because I'm third party selling satoris how I'm a bank.  Was an easy back and forth from my side.  I even think they used the term "The Bit Coins"  Grin

Either way good luck but yeah crypto is still dicey on ebay.  Plenty of other avenues to sell through here being one of them plenty enough of us degens here to support a buy/sell community.

It's funny we're talking about this. I have never had a problem over the years selling on Ebay, but today I just received a note that I need to reverify my identity before they will send me the cash accrued in my account. Maybe it's a normal check up, but I just sold several coins and this thread now has me paranoid...  Grin

Beware of scammers. I will never discuss the sale of Collectibles on Telegram or any other messaging client outside the forum.

They aren't using paypal anymore, so this is probably normal if you haven't verified your id with them before. Smiley
