One of the prospective ways to use cryptocurrencies in the area of betting and sports-games. So probably Fantasy Sport also may be. Let's talk about this phenomenon for a while, esp in crypto-retrospective.

Many sports betting enthusiasts would love to have bets every hour every day. Still, unfortunately, there are not so many significant sports events in real life that happen every hour to provide bookmakers the opportunity to accept those potential bets every hour. Since the number of people wishing to place a bet is growing, and the proportionality of real events in the world is not so great, a new ideal option was invented - fantasy sport (also known as rotisserie or roto).

Roto is a type of game where the manager (player) of the game creates his virtual team based on the statistics of real players and makes his predictions for winning. Then all the data is converted into points, which can be calculated by a "league commissioner" or a computer, tracking the actual results of professional sports. Here the "manager" can either exchange or discard players, as it happens in real sports.

Today there are many real websites where you can bet on virtual sports, but it can be not easy to appreciate their real value and differences. The Data40 team made a step into the Fantasy sports industry and created a dataset. Some of its points are mentioned below.

There is a huge advantage now in the use of cryptocurrencies because they do not tie the user to a specific location. The blockchain system is the best way to hide data if there is a need for this. Withdrawals can be made without intermediaries of other banks. Thus, transactions are not traceable.

Internet-boom

The prototype of a modern fantasy betting website was Molson Breweries in 1995, and a year later, it received the International Digital Media Award for Best Website of 1995. Commissioner.com, launched on the first day of 1997, initially offered services such as statistics, league message boards, score updates, and other features for fantasy baseball. In the late 1990s, SportsLine was sold for $ 31 million and three years later brought them a combined income of 11 million. It is now the main engine behind the CBSSports.com fantasy zone since CBS bought it in 2004.

Other sites that have linked to fantasy sports have grown significantly. One of these is RotoWire.com, formerly known as RotoNews.com. According to Media Metrix, after creating the first article on this genre within two years, the site became the top ten most visited. In the late 2000s, it was sold to Broadband Sports.
This popularity has attracted other major media players as well. Fantasy Sports Yahoo introduced a new business model in 1999. A survey of the fantasy sports market in the U.S.

The game in the genre of fantasy began literally to contribute to watching TV, based on surveys; men spent more than 6 hours a week on this. The NFL started airing the first fantasy football television commercials. A 2003 study by the Fantasy Sports Trade Association found that about 15 people are playing the genre. Ten years later, Forbes shows that the number of Americans playing the industry has doubled.

In 2008, Montana began offering fantasy sports betting for the first time. In 2012, a lot of fantasy sports apps appeared.

Can any make money on bets?

Today bets in fantasy sports do not take place per game for the entire season, but only for a week or daily. This makes it possible to get a profit faster and do real business on it. Now the legality of games is out of the question and allows players to play from anywhere in the world. The blockchain system is perfectly embedded in betting and games. Everyone can withdraw funds directly to their wallet without going to banks.

Thanks to the Internet, fantasy sports sites can be easily found, but the list will not give an understanding of the complete picture. Today bookmakers make bets much easier than before. All you need is a device with Internet access. Not only ordinary money can be used, but also cryptocurrency. And this, you see, is very convenient.

Ethereum, Bitcoin, Fantasy Gold are suitable for this. The Fantasy Gold wallet can be encrypted, backed up, and saved offline to a USB stick or other air gap device. The wallet only needs an internet connection to sync with the Fantasy Gold blockchain, send transactions, or when used as a betting wallet when the cryptocurrency enters the bet confirmation phase.

According to our data, in July this year alone, the traffic of the cbssports website brought over 75,000,000 unique visitors. And the statistics of the number of users is growing daily, although it all began in the United States. Today the whole world is closely following sports events, getting money for pleasure.

The main properties of such products

As the data show, the growth of this type of bet is growing due to convenient use: on some websites, players choose mainly mobile devices for playing, rather than personal computers. Basically, the language and type of authorization can also be found in the list.

Sports knowledge increases the participant's chances of winning. The higher the stakes, the higher the winnings. Fantasy points are used to determine the winners of DFS fantasy tournaments. Each site that provides daily fantasy games has its own rules for scoring.

Today the bookmaker market is changing, and it is essential to have time to "jump on this train early", because this phenomenon has not yet swept over the CIS countries and some other territories. Therefore, there is a minimum of competition.

There are more and more opportunities for competition: both for money and against friends or just for your pleasure. Some applications even allow you to create your own league and set your own rules there. Today, fantasy sports include basketball, hockey, tennis, e-sports, Formula 1, handball, cricket. There are also games according to the format of prizes: no prizes or with prizes in the form of sports paraphernalia, cash prizes. According to the duration of the game, games can be one-day, weekly, seasonal, and so on.

Now the threshold is close to zero on some websites, which shows the points of development of this genre for the future in the CIS countries, Asia and Russia. Also, the site always provides rules for games. Common rules most often determine the number of eligible players in a team, as well as the award of fantasy points and the distribution of the prize pool. More and more fantasy game formats appear every day.

Most significant projects and leaders in fantasy sport

The amount of the minimum deposit on the sites may differ. Fantasy sports leaders vary depending on the genre. For example, it is better to play for money at Fanteam. They recently added esports - CS: GO, Dota 2, LoL - and even cricket baseball. The administration quickly responds to comments on the website, which does excellent service. For the baseball genre, the NBA is well suited. The number of matches per day at the latter is enormous, but this is understandable, especially for fans of American baseball.

Not all sites can play for real money, and many do not have adaptations for Mobile app. For example, they are not on the sites ESPN, MLB, sports yahoo, Sports.ru and many others. The undisputed leaders in terms of traffic are cbssports.com, mpl.live, fanduel.com.

In the list of leaders for 2021, the fifth place is occupied by What If Sports, according to research by Data40.

FanDuel and DraftKings, two of the largest paid fantasy platforms, are bucking this considerable demand, multiplying the excitement for the opportunity to win. FanDuel's largest open league, the Sunday Millions, has a weekly prize pool of $ 2.25 million. The winner receives $ 250,000. Some 21,000 players end up in the black with up to $ 50 in bonuses.

How cryptocurrency is related to FS

In some regions, well-known platforms are provided only partially. This reduces competition and can increase the growth of income several times. In the USA, where the competition is very high and many interested players, it is more difficult to win.

According to the FTS, players spend on average about $ 556 on fantasy games. About 70% of this amount is spent on purchasing the league favorites. According to data for 16, Europeans spend about $ 600 a year, although in the previous year the figure was twice lower.

For the CIS countries, this is a considerable advantage and attracts more and more players every year. Such a business is increasing the number of fantasy sports sites and shows that the trend is growing. Most of them use cryptocurrency.

Russia, Asia and other countries are gradually catching up with the USA and Canada. Over the course of a year, the number of players almost doubles. The FS market for 2015 was estimated at about 3-4 billion dollars.

The use of cryptocurrencies dramatically increases the importance of fantasy sports, attracting more and more players. Fast transactions and smooth withdrawals are more enjoyable for players.

And here are several questions:

* is there any future for crypto-related Fantasy Sports?
* maybe any currently available projects?
* what kind of opportunities for NFT types could be related to Fantasy Sports? It's quite easy to imagine token with Virtual Ronaldo, which goes several million on auction price Smiley

Fantasy sports would be a good and unique business and form of entertainment because it offers an alternative and more convenient way to ease boredom and play. It is almost similar to the typical and real sports and the only difference is that is it done over the Internet (online). Fantasy sports aren't categorized though as gambling since it is not a game of chance, but a game of skills. The more your players are performing nicely in real life, the more your fantasy points will be earned.

It is a good way of entertaining and enjoying the traditional sports. However the talk of its legality and its originality is often questioned. Since the concept and idea of the game is based on the traditional sports, it is quite associated with plagiarism. I guess it would be the State's discretion if they would allow such thing in their country. Whether they would legalize it and see or view it as a unique and potential business or not.

AFAIK,fantasy sports are a USA thing.I don't know about any fantasy sports websites in Europe or Asia.
I've tried to signup at Fanduels in the past, but they don't allow people, who are not US citizens.
How come playing fantasy sports isn't considered gambling? For some reason Draftkings and Fanduels aren't heavily regulated in most US states.
I guess that playing fantasy sports requires skills like making proper analysis.Luck isn't that important,so fantasy sports games can be exploited in some way,but this might be very difficult.I'm not an expert in the subject anyway.
OP,what was the point of making that "wall of text" type of forum post and including two links pointing to this data40.com website?

It might need some more time before hitting mainstream among gamblers. Convincing gamblers to switch over to an all new type of betting, may not be that easier; it must have more reasons than existing gambling types for any gambler to try and and then to continue with it.

I remember by the times of first break out of covid and lockdown periods, many gambling platforms introduced fantasy sportsbetting (even not in exact way what OP mention) but when lockdown were narrow down and actual sport events started to happen, I am not getting any update on progress of such fantasy sportsbetting.

You have a very good topic, but the topic is too long, this will not attract many people to read it, but this is a very good topic.

Rotisserie, roto, virtual betting or what it is called is just a means of getting more people to be addicted to gambling, they are short in time and more risky and has no room for any analysis. That is why I do not like to go for such games at all for betting. I majorly prefer to always go for real sport and most especially football betting.

Many sports betting enthusiasts would love to have bets every hour every day. Still, unfortunately, there are not so many significant sports events in real life that happen every hour to provide bookmakers the opportunity to accept those potential bets every hour.
One thing I like about myself is the analyses I make before placing any bet, virtual betting will not make this possible, it is shorter than what I like, I prefer long period of time betting than the short ones and I also like the football in-play matches which you can place bet even every minute if there are many football events, there are always many football events daily. But I play just one or two and not up to to three because I know the more you play the start of losing in a way you will lose than the money you use to start.

There should be discipline when betting.

I don't think it's going to get that much traction tbh. There are the real-world sports that we have and I'd honestly much watch that cause, after all, fantasy sports is something akin to numbers fighting against numbers. It's unlike eSports where players manipulate those numbers, fantasy sports instead use the real world to base their numbers in and then fight each other. It might get a part of it's own traction but I don't think it could possibly exceed what the sports scene currently has imo. After all, fantasy sports are stuck at an impasse if their real-world counterparts were to never change, so it really just follows that imo.

I find it strange that people are spending so much on these "fantasy" games but I guess it's a small leap from a fun game to competitive gambling. I see people in the office doing these fantasy football games and throwing 25 each in to a prize pool, it seems like being the winner is not competitive enough and there must be some sort of money incentive going to the winner. As we can see from fantasy sports companies like FanDuel, there is massive demand from people for this sort of gaming league and being able to predict the best teams is quite lucrative for sports fans, so it should do well in the cryptocurrency space as well. I'd expect a company like SportsBet could fill this gap if they put the resources into it.

From what i've seen fantasy sports on the crypto side is somewhat struggling so it might take a while before we'd see trends. Some crypto sportsbooks tried to introduce fantasy sports back then but it didn't blow up as much.

The only project I know so far is Sorare I think their fantasy sports project is similar to what you've mentioned where their cards could go for more since some of the cards they put in circulation only have a limited quantity but i'm not interested in fantasy sports though.

Thanks for Sorare appointment, that was in my list-to-research, but somehow, I missed exploring that; yeah, on first look, it seems a bit mixed - lootboxes, cards, resale; probably a step aside from more "traditional" Fantasy Sports statistics, but something related for sure.

AFAIK,fantasy sports are a USA thing.I don't know about any fantasy sports websites in Europe or Asia.
I...
OP,what was the point of making that "wall of text" type of forum post and including two links pointing to this data40.com website?
Is this your website?

Yeah, "USA thing" is an excellent term. I found it almost the same. Although there are a lot of FS-projects that allow registration from other countries, for example, dream11, What if Sports, Paytm first games, Office Football Pool, FanTeam. Probably most of them are seem international. But, looking at similar-web traffic analysis, I'd say they are still popular only in North America.

Wall of text, that's true. My bad, I know I do over-texting all the time, not proud of that, but yet still. Data40 is my website, correct. I had and private survey with FS dataset creation. And in the middle of the work, I've realized that FS is an unknown gaming/gambling area for me. And bitcointalk has somehow become an experts-community in my opinion, where are chances to get new advice and pieces of information. So I gather thoughts and points of view to the moment.

It might need some more time before hitting mainstream among gamblers. Convincing gamblers to switch over to an all new type of betting, may not be that easier; it must have more reasons than existing gambling types for any gambler to try and and then to continue with it....

For me, hitting out of the mainstream is more issue of complexity and decision-making-necessity of FS-alike projects. In other words: to start to enjoy FS, you have to work hard firstly. And this is probably not the popular way of entertaining themselves. Here comes, IMO, the opportunities in the crypto community, coz "here is also the area of high complexity."

You have a very good topic, but the topic is too long, this will not attract many people to read it, but this is a very good topic.

...

Thanks, I wanted to make it interesting to read for those who never knew the FS-projects. Analysis and discipline - I agree, but unfortunately, those features seem not so popular currently, in this era Smiley

As we can see from the TS post fantasy sports is at the beginning of its development and every year it finds more and more supporters among betting fans and sporting events. Cryptocurrencies also gradually expand their influence in the role of financial instrument, so I'm sure that in 5 years fantasy sports will increase its audience by several times and almost every site dealing with betting on fantasy sports will accept cryptocurrencies for payment. This is an inevitable process.

I think that crypt does not give anything like this to projects, it only complicates the already complex games, besides, many fantasy feel great and only with fiat, for example, India is now developing very rapidly.

The main issue with fantasy sports is terminology and context based. One side of the debate contends fantasy sports are games of skill. Which would allow fantasy sports to avoid regulation and restrictions related to gambling. The other side banned fantasy sports in some US states. Even big and well established platforms like draftkings and fanduel are illegal. Harsh regulation makes the future of fantasy sports difficult.

I have seen cryptocurrency fantasy sports websites that were never updated that seemed shut down.

Collectibles and memorabilia markets for sports have been in operation for many decades. Baseball cards and collectibles are definitely a thing. Whether the sentimental value and market of sports collectibles could someday transition to NFTs, remains to be seen.

Honestly, I don't see any growth in popularity, in search of fantasy tops I came across an article, it was in the summer of this year, it said that such sites do not live long, which makes it impossible to compile a normal one at the top, and sites that remain "alive" on a permanent basis 3 -4   Undecided

Is this your website?

How about using VPN? I think that'll work unless they'll ask you for a KYC to verify that you're a US citizen.

Well, all of the games requires strategy, any amount of effort in analyzing how to win in a game is need, unless it's a luck based game. Most of the fantasy sport is unique, it might be like the common sports but they've add some items or skills that makes the character also unique. I've never played one, but I think it'll never be a plagiarism if you know what you're doing.

I think using VPN could be a solution, but you need to ask the website about using a VPN on their site so you will not get a problem in the future. If they prohibit you from using VPN, it is better to stop using their site and search for other gambling sites.

Related to fantasy sports, we do not know why the government thinks that fantasy sports are not considered gambling. Fantasy sports is a unique game that needs skills to predict which team has a big chance to win so that will not be the same as plagiarism because the game will have its own rule than the other gambling games. But predicting is the same as gambling.

This is not going to work, supposing that you do not have to go through KYC from the very beginning in the case you want to withdraw your winnings or you want to withdraw the rest of your capital after losing some then you are going to be hit with a KYC request, and what are you going to do at that point? Are you going to try to lie about that as well?

Besides most of those websites are aware of VPNs and most likely have the IP addresses of the most popular services so you will never fool them, so if they do not accept US citizens then it is better to just accept it and move on.

It's hard to imagine a practical usage for NFT in fantasy games, because it will be just a "cosmetic" card without any extra attribute or benefit for the bearer, since this kind of game is fully influenced by the performance of real players during their real life matches. As a speculative or collectible asset it could work, but that is only for the most eccentric wealthy players, not for the common public.

NFT opportunities are only interesting when they have a function inside a virtual universe.

NFTs may well find application in fantasy sports. For example, NFTs can have different multipliers (1.1-2.0) that increase points for certain actions (scoring a goal, goal kick, etc.). If you apply an NFT with a certain action to one of the players on your team and he performs the action, you get increased points.  In fact, there could be many such examples.

* is there any future for crypto-related Fantasy Sports?
* maybe any currently available projects?
* what kind of opportunities for NFT types could be related to Fantasy Sports? It's quite easy to imagine token with Virtual Ronaldo, which goes several million on auction price Smiley

It seems that the world of fantasy sports is huge, so it would make sense for cryptocurrency fans to be interested in it as well. I definitely see some of the currently established sportsbook betting sites having a good shot at cornering this market, but surprisingly they are outsourcing this right now and leaving a massive pile of money on the table. I was looking at Sportsbet a couple months ago and they actually redirected people to a third party for one of their fantasy sports competition and would have been able to serve their customers a bit better if it was built internally instead. NFT's are really going strong right now, so any ability to tie that into the game would also do well.

It's certainly not plagiarism.

I think that it is quite a unique business. NFTs could come into play but it can function just as well without the NFT side of things.

It would be quite interesting for crypto sportsbooks to take this up given the convenience that they offer compared to fiat alternatives such as DK. Great market opportunity here.
