Open source articles are wanted for devtome, the open source wiki about anything:

http://www.devtome.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

==Requirements==
There are no notability requirements for the wiki, only the usual no malware, porn, shilling, plagiarism, libel, vandalism or scammy stuff. All contributions to devtome are considered to be released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (wikipedia license). You can port your articles to devtome, for example articles from your own website or blog, you just have to show that you have the rights to your contribution. If you base your article on an open source article, you must make significant improvements and add an attribution section.

==Application==
To stop scammers, new writers have to contact me to request an account. The request should include a link to your posts or blog or wiki, or your biography, or at least 50 words of your first article. I check the bitcoin forum often, so sending a message to:

unthinkingbit

will get a quick response. I also check my unthinkingbit email address, although less often:

unthinkingbit@gmail.com

If you are porting your own article, you have to show that you have the rights to your contribution.

==Income==
Writers get a signing bonus, earnings per word, and a share of the advertising income. Also if a writer works well with others, they can become a devcoin administrator and get an extra share for administrative work. Now anyone can make coin, whatever they like writing about, wherever in the world they are.

A generation share is usually around four million devcoins. The value at:

https://vircurex.com/

is volatile, but is usually at least 0.0000018 BTC/DVC. So each generation share is worth roughly seven bitcoins. Although this is not much, it is more than writers can get for porting over their own work anywhere else, and the income is ongoing, there is no worry about layoffs or contracts running out. In time, as devtome gets bigger the devcoin value should rise.

===Signing Bonus===
There is a first article bounty of four generation shares for the first ten writers, three generation shares for the next ten, then two generation shares for the next ten, and finally one generation share for the last ten. The article, or articles, must have total length of at least a thousand words. If the work is based off an open source article, then the collated work is also counted, although with a weighting of 0.3

===Earnings per Word===
Original work gets a generation share per 1,000 words. The original work can be from your website, it can not be based off another article.

Collated work, which is largely based on another open source article, is also counted, although with a weighting of currently 0.3. The collated work can not be simply a copy of another article, it must have improvements and the type of improvements must be listed in the invoice.

===Advertising Income===
The advertising net income will be converted to devcoins through an exchange. The devcoins will then be handed out to the writers in proportion to their total weighted word count.

===Administrative Work===
If you write for at least two months and intend to continue, you can apply to be inducted. If your work has been of good quality and you work well with others, you can become a devcoin administrator, and get another generation share for administrative work.

===Invoice===
To earn coins, after an administrator checks to see that the text is original or improved for collated work, the tomecount.py script will parse the user page, then count the words in the articles and calculate the payouts. An example snippet is pasted below, condensed from the unthinkingbit user page.

<pre>
==Articles==
===Collated===
*[[Eczema]] - Source: [http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Ethnomedicine/Ethnomedicine_by_Illness#Eczema Ethnomedicine by Illness, Eczema] and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eczema Wikipedia Eczema] - Improvement: Combined wikibooks with wikipedia articles

===Original===

*[[Devcoin]] - Source: [https://github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/blob/master/devcoin.html https://github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/blob/master/devcoin.html]

==Tip==
Coin Address: 17vec4jQGCzMEsTnivizHPaowE715tu2CB
</pre>

Please add links to your articles in the same format on your user page. Also, if you are on the bitcoinshare list please use the same coin address, so that if a dishonest writer edits your coin address the discrepancy will be noticed.

==Devcoin Address==
Ideally you can run devcoin and get a new address.

However, currently the only devcoin binary is the Linux daemon, so if you are not using Linux you may find it difficult or impossible to install devcoin on your system. If this is the case, you can put a bitcoin address for your coin address, and import the bitcoin address into devcoin in the future when there will be devcoin binaries for other platforms and you can then install devcoin on your system. The procedure for importing a bitcoin address into devcoin is at the bottom of the:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34586.msg430630#msg430630

Because Linux is more secure than Mac and Windows, it is a good idea to keep your coins on a Linux computer. For even more safety, you can get a separate Linux computer dedicated to storing coins. Large cities often have a store selling refurbished Linux computers; if there is no Linux store close to your place you can get one by mail from a place like:

http://www.usanotebook.com/laptops_with_linux_ubuntu.php

for less than 200 USD.

==Finance==
The idea behind devtome is that the generation shares pay people to write for the wiki, the advertising revenue from the wiki purchases devcoins on an exchange which causes the value of devcoin to rise, which means more money for writers, and so on. Because advertising rates are low, it will take at least a few months for the advertising revenue to be significant, but you have to start somewhere.

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be possible to actually write to the wiki, I have been trying for a few days now to get verified but so far the confirmation emails have kept failing to arrive. So it looks like something is wrong with the sendmail system at the site.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be possible to actually write to the wiki, I have been trying for a few days now to get verified but so far the confirmation emails have kept failing to arrive. So it looks like something is wrong with the sendmail system at the site.

Thanks for trying it repeatedly.

Because the email confirmation is not working, to any other prospective writers, please to not try to create an account until this issue is resolved.  If the problem is fixed, I will update this thread.

By the way, there is still a 30 BTC bounty for making a backup devtome wiki:

The email validation is now working.

To stop scammers, new writers now have to request an account:
http://www.devtome.org/wiki/index.php?title=Special:RequestAccount

In that page you must fill out a form with at least the first fifty words of your first article to register.  If you are porting your own article, you have to show that you have the rights to your contribution.

There may be old boilerplate which says you have to put in your real name, if you see that old page, just put the first words of the article in the biography section, and put in whatever pseudonym you want where it says Real Name.

Thank you Btc Artist, Joakim Refsdahl and Viboracecata for joining devtome. Your user pages are listed below:

http://devtome.org/wiki/index.php?title=User:Btc_artist
http://devtome.org/wiki/index.php?title=User:Joakim_Refsdahl
http://devtome.org/wiki/index.php?title=User:Viboracecata

Sorry about the long delay in processing your application. The delay is because we didn't notice until yesterday that the 'request an account' emails were going to a spam folder. That spam folder is now being checked daily and the next requests should be processed within a few days.

For new writers, please check your spam folder for a confirmation email because most or all automatically generated emails are going to a spam folder. If you do not get a response within four days, please post on the devcoin thread:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34586.0

Since merged mining is done, the devtome writing payouts will start in round 8. To encourage more people to write, the per word rate has been doubled, from one generation share per two thousand words to one generation share per thousand words. At the prices at the time of this writing, a generation share of four million devcoins has a value of:
4,000,000 DVC * 0.000001 BTC/DVC * 7 USD/BTC = 28 USD

which is a word rate of 28 USD / 1,000 words = 0.028 USD/word. Word rates vary, but this is at the high end for freelancer articles:
http://www.freelancer.com/jobs/Articles/

and you can write whatever you want, however much you want, and port over stuff you've already written. There is no time wasted looking for gigs. If you wrote for wikipedia but a deletionist deleted your article or reverted your changes, this is perfect for you. Everything is under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license. The writing has to be of at least reasonable quality, if the article is of poor quality it won't be accepted.

If you want to write to a particular subject, we'll see if there's a project that people are interested in and we'll ask people to write for that project.

Also, because the devcoin value has gone down since the Earn Devcoins By Writing page:
http://devtome.org/wiki/index.php?title=Earn_Devcoins_By_Writing

was written, the generation share option of the first article bounty is being doubled. So the first article bounty is now 5 BTC (or two generation shares, whichever you prefer) for the first five writers, 4 BTC (or 8/5 of a generation share) for the next five, etc..

To stop scammers, now only administrators can make a new account, so new writers have to contact me to request an account. The request should include a link to your posts or blog or wiki, or your biography, or at least 50 words of your first article. I check the bitcoin forum often, so sending a message to:

unthinkingbit

will get a quick response. I also check my unthinkingbit email address, although less often:

If you are porting your own article, you have to show that you have the rights to your contribution.
