I am wondering if anyone here uses remote alarming for when your data center loses power, the internet, and/or both. My company has a few remote sites that take up to two hours to get to. I am looking for something we could install in our proxy server/Onsite computer to allow us to be more proactive in our network surveillance. Maybe something like a keep alive pinging. Thanks for any help and suggestions.

You mean something that can alert you at your off-site location when the data center loses power, internet or both?
I wonder what tech can easily send alerts to you wherever you are, without the internet. Guess you could cheaply do that with smartphone that detect when data room light is off/on(probably could do this with phone's ambient light or similar sensor) , and can be somehow connected to the datacenter to monitor the internet. Whenever the power or internet (or both) goes off, it's triggers the alarm of app that monitors the internet and power.

It either you have a cheap smartphone that listens to the alarm and automatically call your location or you employ someone to call whenever he/she hears the alarm.
The smartphone/device could also be configured to send you alert via the internet but I'm considering the possibility of the internet not working on the smartphone at that period too.

Well, for datacenter you definitely need some kind of monitoring software for administrators (like Nagios) - it can send you a email, when some problem is detected. Power loss can be monitored by UPS - I am sure there is some in datacenter. UPS will be monitored by some software for that purpose (like Network UPS Tools).
