So GGG is back this time he will travel to Japan to face a local champion and hero Ryota Murata.

He will bring his middleweight crown in the line, IBF and IBO and then Murata's WBA.

We've seen Canelo already so it's time for GGG to show us if he still what it takes to have a rematch with Canelo maybe a catch weight? GGG is nearing 40 years old though, so I don't know if there is enough time in the table to set up that trilogy with Canelo.

Anyhow, he has a big task on hand in Murata, the Japanese is also a very tough fighter. So hopefully we can watch and enjoy this fight.

But I'm still picking GGG to win maybe by decision or knock out if he can still pull the trigger.

Ryota with only 18 fights should be an easy opponent for GGG with 43 fights. The difference in experience is so massive. Just a reminder of GGG power > https://youtu.be/QsMWqgZGkpQ?t=417 You can see he can knockdown his opponent with a jab! Only Canelo who can deal with GGG IMO, RIP Ryota. The only thing that can be an obstacle for GGG is that the fight will be held in Super Arena, Saitama. Thus, GGG must win by KO/TKO.

it's going to be a pretty exciting match where GGG will be back doing crazy matches again now.
I am waiting for him to fight because I really like his fighting style.
on the other hand GGG is currently still making pretty good stats even though his age is now approaching 40. 41-1-1 with 36 KOs is quite a flashy record.
On the other hand, Ryota will certainly not just stand by.
even though he is not really in the lead in this match but he will not give up quickly in saitama later.

I wanna cheer for Murata but GGG seems like he still has something left in his tank that can take Murata on. Not that I'm talking bad about Murata, he still has a lot of fight in him but comparing him with GGG, the latter has a higher chance of feating him imo. Still, if GGG flunks this, he basically lost all rights for a rematch with Murata. I worry though since his age might catch up even before the rematch happens and we might miss it because of that. Guess this match will say whatever is left of GGG.

Well, obviously looking at the experience with professional fights GGG has all the edge over Ryota Murata.
Not just the professional records but almost every aspect of the match up.

I've seen and remember Murata in his fight against his fellow Japanese. I saw it once on the cable channel. His not a bad fighter, he has good combination of body and head punches, but I just don't think he'll stand more than 40% to win against GGG.

GGG seems to be the favorite due to his experience and number of fights in the ring more than Ryota, and everyone will judge his record, GGG 41-1-1, 36 KOs and Ryota 16-2, 13 KOs which I think is unbalanced and far.

even though GGG is approaching 40 years old he will be ready and will also show a great punch that will knock Ryota down even faster, and before the fight starts everyone will judge and know who will win.

Murata is one of the good boxers and this is evidenced by the series of achievements he has today and the most flashy is the WBA (super) title winner.
but on the other hand the opponent he is currently facing is a boxer with a win percentage of almost 100%.
even though GGG's age can be said to be not young anymore in being a boxer but he will still be featured here

Surprised to see GGG fighting this year at his age.

And even though he lost to Canelo, (controversial and then no rematch), I still consider him the greatest MW of our era. This will be his second reign and I agree that GGG has so much experienced that we will favor him against the Japanese fighter in Murata. But Murata is also a champion and we all know that Japanese boxer is also durable, so this is going to be a good fight.

GGG will have a fight this year! (BOXING)

The thread maybe was not so updated because their not much hype on this fight.

I'm the first one to vote for GGG? Lol. In any case, I think GGG can still fight at high level even at his age. I mean this guy has made successful defense of his middleweight for x times already maybe he know holds the record for most successful defense? (I may be wrong though).

So I agree with the majority here, GGG will be the odds favorite against the Japanese fighter, no offense to him but we might see another KO victory for GGG.

GGG has the advantage here with regards to experience the only problem I see here is his age, and the result of his fight with Canelo is not good at all, maybe he came back for a reason and still want to prove that he is still a great boxer, and trilogy with Canelo are possible though. Well, Murata is a Japanese boxer which also a big contender on this category so this will not be an easy match for GGG so he have to take this seriously because this might be his last.

GGG would be the favorite? Not surprising and its true that he do have that experience even though it doesnt really look good on how he fight with Canelo but im not saying
that he wouldnt able to get or win this upcoming fight with Murata but i would say too that this wont really be an easy one and would really be having might a hard time.
Some people might thinking off that Japanese fighters are easy to deal off but looking into those statistics then this isnt something that you should be confident
or would be careless.. Talking about retirement? Possible though.

Great to see GGG again after resting some time, and this comeback fight might be critical on his career since if he lose, then it might hard for him to rise again and as per OP he’s nearing at 40s now, a good age to retire but anyway, GGG will came back stronger and will take Murata seriously because he’s a local champion. With regards to Canelo rematch, I guess its too early to discuss this let’s just wait for the result first of this match.

Triple G is my favorite boxer at this match.
Yes, his age is a big factor that could affect his performance but I believe that he still has the power punch that could knock out his opponent if there is a chance. Of course, we can't just underestimate his opponent as he holds a title as well, which proves he is a good fighter but I'm not considering this a bigger fight for him, though.

Might this fight could test his fist and encourage Canelo to accept the challenge. But if that has come again, I choose Canelo over Triple G.

Every fight of the boxer should not be taken lightly, even if GGG has advantage when it comes to experience. He should prepare on this so he can easily win this match. And maybe, just maybe, request for one more fight with Canelo. But if unfortunately, he will lose this one, high possibility that he may announce his retirement. So let's see if GGG has still some power to show for this upcoming fight.

We arent that blind when it comes to experience. He might be 39 years old but he would still kick some ass.
I would still make out some bet on GGG no doubt but just like what others been saying that he shouldnt
really be that confident on this one.

Surprised to see GGG fighting this year at his age.

And even though he lost to Canelo, (controversial and then no rematch), I still consider him the greatest MW of our era. But Murata is also a champion and we all know that Japanese boxer is also durable, so this is going to be a good fight.

I agree with that, have seen fights involving Japanese boxers and they were tough and courageous and this Murata, though he only has 18 fights record still he could bring some challenges to the not-so-young GGG. Fighting at 40 years old is tough for GGG as you have to train religiously for a fight, I admire him for that.

Have not voted yet as I'm having a hard time picking when an old fighter fighting young guys, we all see what happened to Manny lately  Grin.

Murata is not that young as well, he is at the ripe age of 35 years old, so both of these middleweights are in the crossroads of their career. Maybe this division though is very weak that's why GGG and Murata remain the dominant champion even at that age.

Hopefully, GGG will not age overnight, maybe he still targets Canelo for a fight before he retires.

As long as he is still able to box at a high level then his age should not matter, however while I also think the victory Canelo got over him on the second fight was suspect as I personally saw GGG winning that fight I think it would be difficult for GGG to beat Canelo at his current level.

If this is the case then it is possible we could see the third match in the trilogy as I am sure Canelo is aware of those rumors and he will probably like to clear them before GGG retires.
