About Unsolicited Message...

I just got a message from a user that I have never contacted with and have never even had any discussion with previously. I'm having a hard time understanding the content of the message, but it's definitely a message I never asked for. Can someone of you explain to me what this message mean? I haven't been able to publish the sender of this message, but will act quickly for the sender in case this is a scam attempt.

So yea, without any context, it pretty much looks like a scam attempt. Just use the "report the admin" option and block 'em.

Never heard of it, as even if it was a legitimate website, I ain't from Russia.

After a quick inspection, the website itself looks shady despite me not understanding anything(it's in Russian, obviously); and there isn't available traffic data from Alexa and SimilarWeb.

I have report the message to all admin but no one has responded yet. This seems clear to me as something of a poor service where there is a possibility of scam if someone agrees to try the service. Reporting it to admin like that should suffice for now although the tag would be helpful for other users to notice.

I am not sure you will receive any PM about action taken from admin when you report the PM but the actual treatment is the user will get temp ban for first time violation and if the found to repeat the same then they will get more strict treatment like perma ban.

But I know some of the most reputed members even got temp ban for sending PM even without actual intention of promoting the service they are talking about.


You can leave a tag with no worry when you feel the user attempted to scam you via PM.

For those wondering what justifies being reported I'd say If you receive any type of personal message which you deem is unwanted, you can report it. The admins then will likely see if this is something that is happening on the mass, and if it is deal with it accordingly.

Could be a temp ban or could be permanent. Depends on a case by case basis I would say, since you may assume they have only contacted you, but in reality they may have sent it to hundreds of users, and that likely justifies more than a temp ban.

As for confirmation that the report has been acted upon, probably not unless a Global mod or admin thinks it's justified.

Mate, this is my first time getting a PM like this so it's a good idea to ask before taking any action that might mislead me. What I love about all of you is being willing to give me a little insight into what the proper course of action should be so that it can add a lot to my experience on forum especially about unsolicited message.

So far I don't know if moderators or admin have taken action on the report, but I will no longer worry about the sender's attempt as I can give him and others a warning by tag the sender's profile. This thread is closed.

What you consider an unsolicited message may not be the same for others. The fact the PM contains a link doesn't change something too.
Where does it say we can't send links in PM. I've never used a forum in which you'll be banned if you send a PM (with or without a link).
Banning a user for sending a message is ridiculous. It should be considered case by case. Does the user do it only once or twice? To some members or to a large scale? What kind of message it is? A simple question, spam, a scam attempt, Etc...

If someone considers any message received as unsolicited, then better for him to turn off the option to receive PM from all users.

Imagine you contact someone to ask a question. So you could report the message as unsolicited? That's hilarious, in this case, better to close the PM option

I agree about your opinion and it should be resolved case by case. The admin or moderator will consider and also review whether the report is valid or does not prove anything as reported so that they have the right to decide whether the user is blocked or not.

I'd also like to hear your thought on the PM sent to me as attached above with a service offer I've never heard of before. I tageed it to let people know about the service simply because of its management which I could consider a scam attempt, but I'm willing to remove it otherwise. What do you think?
